WTF Sunderland Podcast

Sunderland are almost back, with the end of the international break now firmly on the horizon. But we still have room for one more special episode with Sunderland's longest running podcast Wise Men Say.

Bizarrely the first time we've ever appeared together on this channel, Graham and Kyle are joined by Stephen Goldsmith to discuss Brobbey and Ballard's hamstring injuries, WMS' podcast origins and a testing month ahead as Sunderland's look to pick up points in the Premier League and the Europa League.

Yes, it's one of those shameless promotional episodes. But WE ARE WEARSIDE is OUT NOW. The new book by our very own Graham and Peter.

Authors Graham and Peter join Alex to discuss why the decided to write the book which sees them go back to 11 men who wore the red and white and ask them to tell the stories behind the moments Sunderland supporters still talk about.

The triumphs, disasters, dressing rooms, managers, transfers and extraordinary incidents that never made the back pages are remembered by the people who were actually there - and what did they learn from it all?

What was it like chatting about Sunderland with heroes such as Patrick Roberts, Thomas Sorensen and Stefan Schwarz, and what were the interesting stories they have from a year's worth of talking to former SAFC players?

Every chapter is also part of a bigger story. Players arrive on Wearside from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, never quite knowing what they have signed up for. Some become heroes. Some divide opinion. Some are only truly understood years later.

A three week international break means we've been to scramble for ideas to keep you (ourselves) entertained, and this is what we have come up with so far. We are picking our best Sunderland XI of our lifetimes...but with plenty caveats.

Join Ross, Ian, Sophie and Kyle as they pick the best Sunderland XI they've ever seen, with a boat load of rules that render their teams pretty bad.

How do you even begin to sum that one up? Eight goals, a Brian Brobbey hat-trick, and rather entertaining defeat.

To go through everything, and there's a lot to go through, Ross is joined by Alex and Sophie to cap off all the talking points from a chaotic game at the Etihad.

After a 53 year wait, European football is finally back on Wearside as we welcome Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar to the Stadium of Light this Wednesday.

There's plenty to look forward to from a Sunderland perspective, but what can we expect from our table topping opponents after their fine start to the season? To help us preview the game, Graham is joined by Dutch journalist, and AZ fan, Brian Wijker to discuss our opening Europa League clash.

A night of many positives, but ultimately no points, as Sunderland fall narrowly just short of getting something from the champions.

Alex and Pete join Dave to talk through the match, dissect what the result means, look forward to the Europa League clash with Alkmaar and pick out plenty of positives from a strong performance, that sadly yielded no points.

Can we take points from Mikel Arteta's side once again this year, like we did in the previous campaign? To let us know how the North London giants are viewing the game ahead of the weekend, Ross is joined by Joe Kent from Arsenal Therapy to get the lowdown on the  Gunners ahead of the clash.
