business leaders were “working to gather petitions to equalize mayoral and city
council term limits.”
According to a press release from BJ Fischer, the
individuals feel that other cities in Ohio have benefited from the stability that having a mayor in office more than two terms can provide.
The question would go before voters in
November. Supporters say it would give voters the option to “choose stability.”

has been called a shopping savant. He was instrumental in making Toledo’s
Franklin Park Mall a success in the 1970s. At the time - the mall was about
retail greatness and less about a real estate transaction - securing anchors

But online retail, overbuilding, questions about safety, and the pandemic
have all taken a toll on malls. Eichelbaum says the enclosed mall is not a dead
concept - but that going forward, it requires strict management and vision.

Toledo’s Director of Economic Development, Brandon Selhorst, wrote an editorial in the Sunday Blade last week touting Toledo momentum. He said a number of major development projects are poised to redefine Toledo landscape and continue an upward trajectory into 2024 and beyond. He listed five “major” projects including: the Glass City Riverwalk, the Toledo Social Innovation District (UpTown Neighborhood), Four Corners, Toledo Trade Center Industrial Park, Westgate North & Colony Lofts.

But how do all Toledoans benefit from these projects? Why will they make a difference?

The former owner of Element 112 and its head chef - Chris Nixon - have big plans. And the city of Sylvania gave those plans a major jump start this week. A meeting allowed for purchase and prepping of the site at 4815 Holland-Sylvania Rd. It was the site of a former Baptist church. The city purchased it in 2015. But now - they’re in the beginning stages of designing a bakery and shop with the hopes of expansion in just a short period of time. The specialty is croissants - and they have contracts with the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Delta Airlines first class, and the universities of Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. Mr. Nixon has been pursuing new croissant contracts in Las Vegas.

As part of a national book tour, WTOL 11 interviewed Retired Army Colonel Greg Gadson and his co-author Terese Schlachter. Their book, entitled “Finding Waypoints: A Warrior’s Journey Towards Peace and Purpose” details Gadson’s life and the many turns it’s taken, including the 2007 IED attack in Iraq that nearly took his life. As a double amputee, Gadson has persevered and has become an inspiration to many including his co-author and Toledo native, Terese Schlachter.
