Core Inflation Falls To Lowest Rate In Four Years
Compared with a year ago, prices are up just 2.1 percent. That just one-tenth above the two percent rate of inflation the Fed says it targets. In March, prices were up 2.3 percent from a year earlier.
Core prices, a measure that excludes food and energy, also rose 0.1 percent. Over the past year, core prices are up 2.5 percent, the smallest year-over-year increase since March of 2021.

John Deere to Invest $20 Billion in America – New Assembly Lines, Factories, and US Steel
A major announcement from John Deere is giving more hope for a future with a prosperous economy.
According to the company website, John Deere will invest $20 billion in the United States over the next decade, with hometowns where these investments will go seeing a projected $25 billion impact.
Factories in Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois will see new expansions, new assembly lines, or new factories altogether. Additionally, the company boasted a majority of the raw steel used in these factories will be from the United States.
A more specific breakdown showed new assemble lines in Waterloo, Iowa; an expansion to the factory in Greenville, Tennessee; a new excavator factory in Kernersville, North Carolina; a 60,000-square-foot expansion to the factory in Moline, Illinois; and a 120,000-square foot expansion in Missouri.
John Deere included in their release that 75 percent of all products sold domestically are manufactured here, as well, with a workforce of 30,000 people in 60 factories with offices or factories in 16 states.

Vance Says Bitcoin Reserve A US Strategic Advantage Over China
Vice President JD Vance said that China’s aversion to decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin was one more reason that the United States should embrace the technology.
“The People’s Republic of China doesn’t like Bitcoin. Well, we should be asking ourselves, why is that? Why is our biggest adversary such an opponent of Bitcoin, and if the communist Republic of China is leaning away from Bitcoin, then maybe the United States ought to be leaning into Bitcoin, and that’s one of the things we’re going to be doing,” he said.
He said that Bitcoin would be a strategically important asset, and that the United States should build on its advantage over the Chinese regime, as around 50 million Americans, soon to be more, own Bitcoin.
The Chinese regime banned cryptocurrency trading and investments in 2019, and its central bank in 2021 announced a crackdown on all cryptocurrency activity.
Vance said cryptocurrency, among supporters, represents “a hedge” against inflation and political persecution, referring to instances of people being denied financial services for their political views.
“With President [Donald] Trump, crypto finally has a champion and an ally in the White House,” Vance said.

Three Judges Blocking Trump’s Tariffs Have Decades-Long Histories of Democrat Activism
The judges on the U.S. Court of International Trade who ruled that President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs are illegal have a history of Democrat Party activism.
Each of the members of the three-judge panel issuing the Wednesday ruling – which was stayed Thursday by an appeals court, allowing the tariffs to continue – fit the profile of other activists judges who continued their political activism after joining the court.
Judges Gary Katzmann, Timothy Reif, and Jane Restani have histories of supporting Democrat candidates that span as far back as 45 years ago and have thwarted Trump’s authority in both of his administrations, earning allegations of judicial activism.
Katzmann, nominated by Barack Obama in 2015, attended Columbia, Oxford, and Yale Law School and later clerked for Stephen Breyer (while Breyer was on the First Circuit Court of Appeals). He was a researcher at the Center for Criminal Justice at Harvard Law School as well as a lecturer at Harvard Law School.

Reif, nominated by Trump in 2019, donated $250 to the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton in 2016, $265 to Obama’s inaugural committee in 2013, $250 to the DCCC in 1997, and $250 to the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton in 1996, according to Federal Election Commission records. In total, he gave $1,015 to Democrats from 1996 to 2016.
Restani, a Reagan appointee, attended leftwing UC Berkeley for undergrad, where she received a political science degree in 1969.

Federal Trade Court Rules President Trump Cannot Initiate Tariffs Under International Emergency Economic Powers Act, All Tariffs Blocked
a federal trade court based out of New York has just ruled in a three-judge decision that President Trump does not have the authority within the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to initiate emergency trade tariffs. [The Ruling is HERE]
[From Page 6, pdf] “…[…] in 1962, Congress delegated to the President the power to take action to adjust imports when the Secretary of Commerce finds that an “article is being imported into the United States in such quantities or under such circumstances as to threaten to impair the national security.” Trade Expansion Act of 1962, Pub. L. No. 87-794, § 232(b), 76 Stat. 872, 877 (codified as amended at 19 U.S.C. § 1862(c)(1)(A)). This delegation is conditioned upon an investigation and findings by the Secretary of Commerce, and agreement by the President. See id. Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended, requires that the U.S. Trade Representative (“USTR”) take action, which may include imposing tariffs, where “the rights of the United States under any trade agreement are being denied” or “an act, policy, or practice of a foreign country” is “unjustifiable and burdens or restricts United States commerce.” 19 U.S.C. § 2411(a)(1)(A)–(B). The USTR may impose duties also where the USTR determines that “an act, policy, or practice of a foreign country is unreasonable or discriminatory and burdens or restricts United States commerce.” Id. § 2411(b)(1). This power is conditioned on extensive procedural requirements including an investigation that culminates in an affirmative finding that another country imposed unfair trade barriers under § 2411(a)(1)(A) or (B) or § 2411(b), and a public notice and comment period. the ruling can be overturned on appeal.
The Sec 301/302 investigation and process noted above was completed by USTR Jamieson Greer, with extensive citation. USTR Greer published a 397-page investigative outcome detailing the “unreasonable and discriminatory” burdens to United States commerce. [SEE HERE pdf]
The New York trade court literally ignored the 2025 USTR investigation, AND the 2025 Dept of Commerce review and investigation of the same based on the USTR published findings. All of those factual investigative findings underpin the Presidential actions taken pursuant to his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
It looks like the trade court didn’t even review the USTR reports.

Navarro floated Section 122 tariffs, which would involve levies of up to 15% for 150 days.
Wednesday’s ruling gives the administration 10 days to carry out its order, which applies to Trump’s global flat tariff, boosted rates on China and others, and his fentantyl-related tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico. It does not affect other levies imposed via other methods, such as Section 232 and 301 levies.
As it seems unlikely that the administration could win an appeal in the 10 days it has under the CIT order to remove the tariffs, we would expect the White House to announce a similar across-the-board tariff using Sec. 122. This would then provide the administration time to launch a series of Sec. 301 cases against larger trading partners, potentially opening the door to imposing tariffs higher than 10% in some cases. However, it seems unlikely that the administration could complete Sec. 301 investigations on every US trading partner within the next several months. If the court’s ruling against the IEEPA-based tariffs remains in effect, this could mean that smaller trading partners and/or countries with smaller trade surpluses with the US might not face a baseline tariff when Sec. 122 tariffs roll off after 150 days (assuming the Trump administration cannot find a legal means to extend them).

Trump has the leverage, if the Senate does not pass the bill those who voted no will be on the hook. Taxes will go up because Trump set it up this way, planned a long time ago. The tax cuts expire. So the RINOS and the Ds have a choice, we know the Ds will vote no, this leaves the RINOS, if they vote no, they will be primaries.
If all 215 Democrats vote no, Republicans would need 218 votes from their own party to pass the bill.

North Sea Oil Producer Slams The UK’s Windfall Tax
The chief executive of Enquest criticizes the UK’s Energy Profits Levy, claiming it is doing “irreversible damage” to the oil and gas industry and discouraging investment.
Due to the heavy tax burden, the company is planning a “disciplined approach” to investment and expects to pay a significant amount in windfall tax in June 2025.
Enquest argues that the UK is the only country levying a windfall tax on its domestic energy producers where no windfall profits exist, further impacting competitiveness.
The boss of Enquest has slammed the windfall tax on oil and gas firms as doing “irreversible damage” to the industry and “driving job losses across the sector”.
It is designed to tax the extra profits these companies made due to surging energy prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Initially, the rate was 25 per cent, but it later jumped to 35 per cent in January 2023.

Goldman analysts surprised to learn that policies of energy independence lower prices for the poor
Goldman, and most other investment advisors, along with almost all media outlets, seemed to have no idea that completely reversing Biden’s energy policies would lower prices. From an article at Zero Hedge:
They say that the lower gas prices, due to the policy changes, have unexpectedly helped those at the bottom. How the heck could that be unexpected? Energy prices affect everyone, but especially those who earn less. Trump’s policies helped the poor in his first term, and they clearly will again.
All the experts seemed shocked and surprised that inflation soared when Biden set out to destroy all oil, gas, and natural gas companies. They also had no idea that printing massive amounts of money, issuing regulations as fast as they could, and opening borders to anyone who wanted to come would lead to the highest inflation in forty years.
Somehow, the experts weren’t worried about the bond market, the debt, or the deficit until Trump took office.

The CBO and other experts were also confused as to why the Affordable Care Act caused prices to rise constantly and rapidly when Democrats promised prices would fall. Who could have known that destroying competition, forcing people to buy a Cadillac policy instead of giving people freedom of choice, getting rid of annual and lifetime limits, and constantly raising subsidies would raise prices? The answer is everyone should have known.
Of course they also seem confused as to why the cost of college hasn’t become more affordable, as they continue to increase costs now that the government guarantees the loans.
It is unexpected to Al Gore and other green pushers that the ice is still in the Arctic and Antarctic, and the oceans are barely rising. It is not unexpected to those of us who are falsely called climate change deniers that the climate is and has always changed cyclically and naturally.

The EU countries are realizing that they were headed down the the wrong path in regards to green energy, now they are reversing course. Energy Costs Now ‘Main Issue’ For US Ally That Barred Nuclear Power
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said high energy costs are the most critical economic issue for her country
Italy has embraced green energy and enacted a ban on nuclear power that has lasted nearly 40 years, though the nation’s Council of Ministers and Meloni have recently moved to reintroduce the technology, joining other European countries like Belgium, Denmark and Germany that are also reconsidering their turns away from nuclear power. Emanuele Orsini — the head of Italy’s largest business lobby — called for Meloni to cut energy costs and pave the way for a return to nuclear energy at the annual assembly for Confindustria, where Meloni again acknowledged her country’s energy problems, Reuters reported.
“Our companies continue to suffer from an energy (price) surcharge of more than 35% over the European average, even reaching peaks of 80% when compared to the largest European countries,” Orsini said at the assembly, according to Reuters.
Meloni has expressed support for expanding nuclear energy in Italy, as have other officials, including the Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.

US Consumers Now More Optimistic, Ending 5 Straight Months Of Decline In Confidence Index
U.S. consumer confidence bounced back in May ending five straight months of decline and beating economists’ expectations.
The Consumer Confidence Index increased by 12.3 points in May to 98.0, up from 85.7 in April, according to a report released Tuesday by The Conference Board. This notably marked the first increase in consumer confidence in five months.
The Conference Board’s Present Situation Index, which is based on consumers’ outlook on current business and job market conditions, increased 4.8 points in May to 135.9. Meanwhile, the Expectations Index, which is based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business and job market conditions, jumped 17.4 points to 72.8 in the same month.

NPR and PBS Stations Sue Trump Administration for Cutting Their Federal Funding
Well, you knew this HAD to happen.
After President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order banning the (federal) funding of NPR and PBS stations, the rubber was going to meet the road.
NPR said it would aggressively challenge the executive order and PBS said it was exploring its options. Congress allocated $535 million for the CPB for fiscal year 2025. Most of the funding for the PBS and NPR comes from other sources.
The White House said in a statement on Friday that PBS and NPR receive tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds each year to spread “radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news’.”

According to Bloomberg, the economic advisory firm Oxford Economics calculated last week that the new Canadian government under Prime Minister Mark Carney has quietly adopted a conciliatory approach in the wake of Trump’s aggressive tariff policies, resulting in a minuscule tariff increase of “nearly zero” on most U.S. products entering Canada.
Tony Stillo, Oxford’s director of Canada economics, explained.
“It’s a very strategic approach from a new prime minister to really say, ‘We’re not going to have a retaliation,’” Stillo said in an interview. “It’s a strategic play on the government’s part to not damage the Canadian economy.”

In March, the Canadian government retaliated against Trump’s tariffs by imposing its own 25 percent import taxes. Those taxes affected roughly $43 billion worth of American-made imports.
Then, another round of Canadian tariffs hit U.S.-made autos in April.
A series of exemptions from Carney’s government, however, have effectively reduced those tariff increases to “nearly zero.”
And that represents a significant victory for Trump.

President Trump Signs Executive Orders on Nuclear Energy Production
Nuclear energy stocks rallied on before President Trump signed several executive orders on Friday to ramp up domestic nuclear energy production.
Trump reportedly plans to invoke the Defense Production Act, which he previously used in March to expand domestic mineral production, to declare a national emergency to reduce dependence on Russia and China for nuclear energy materials.
Per CNBC:

The president is also expected to direct federal agencies to permit and site new nuclear facilities, according to Reuters. He will also order the Departments of Energy and Defense to identify federal land and facilities where nuclear can be deployed and streamline the process to build them, Reuters reported.
President Trump signed four executive orders on nuclear energy production aimed at reforming the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and cutting regulations, reinvigorating and accelerating domestic production, deploying advanced nuclear reactor technologies for national security, and streamlining nuclear reactor testing.
The President previously declared a National Energy Emergency to lift restrictions on domestic fossil fuel mining and drilling.
Additionally, as part of his Unleashing American Energy Executive Order on January 20, the President charged heads of executive agencies to review all existing regulations and “identify those agency actions that impose an undue burden on the identification, development, or use of domestic energy resources — with particular attention to oil, natural gas, coal, hydropower, biofuels, critical mineral, and nuclear energy resources.”
Last month, the Department of Energy touted the “big wins” for nuclear energy in Trump’s first 100 days.
“The long-awaited nuclear renaissance is right around the corner thanks to President Trump as the Administration works to restore American energy dominance to bring more reliable, secure, and affordable power back to U.S. taxpayers,” the department wrote.
“There’s lots more to come,” they concluded.

Oil Prices Dip On Report Of Another Potential OPEC+ Supply Boost
OPEC+ is considering a third straight monthly output hike, departing from the norm of stabilizing oil markets. According to Bloomberg, the group of 12 major oil-exporting nations, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, and others, is considering a July increase of 411,000 barrels per day (bpd)—roughly triple the previously planned amount. This would mirror supply increases in May and June. Such an increase in July could lead to a breakdown in Brent crude’s $60-per-barrel price floor (as long as the war risk premium remains suppressed).
Brent fell to $63 a barrel, down about 1.7% following the news. West Texas Intermediate dropped to around $60 a barrel.

90% Of US Companies Plan To Reshore Amid Tariffs, Allianz Survey Finds
Nine out of 10 U.S. companies say they expect to bring some or all of their production or sourcing back home in response to new tariffs imposed under President Donald Trump’s trade policy, according to the latest Allianz Trade Global Survey.
The survey, published on May 20, hints at an acceleration in reshoring efforts as U.S. firms adapt to the tariffs, as Trump pursues a global trade reset to boost domestic manufacturing and correct what he says are decades of unfair practices by other countries that put the United States at a disadvantage.
Allianz researchers found that roughly 90 percent of U.S. companies plan to reshore or switch to domestic suppliers in the wake of the April 2 global tariff announcement. U.S. firms ranked among the most likely in the world to pursue domestic sourcing, alongside companies in Italy and Spain.
“That said, it may be easier said than done,” the Allianz report’s authors wrote.
“When asked about the top hurdles standing in the way of reshoring, supplier-related issues and no longer higher costs was the top choice compared to last year. Labor-related issues round up the top three hurdles.”
More than three-quarters of companies pointed to supply chain structure—their complexity, concentration, or competition—as a key threat to offshore production, with the high share of declared reshoring intentions suggesting that firms see clear benefits to simpler, domestic supply chains in the face of Trump’s trade policies.

US Attorney’s New Program Sidesteps California’s Sanctuary Laws Shielding Illegals From ICE
In what could be a game changer for the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for California’s Central District and federal partners launched a program to “neutralize California’s sanctuary state policy.”
Operation Guardian Angel, announced by federal officials on May 19, will file complaints and arrest warrants to allow federal authorities to take as many defendants as possible into custody from county jails, according to a Department of Justice press release.

If a person who has been deported reenters the country illegally, that’s a felony under Title 8 law, said Ciaran McEvoy, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
California’s state law—Senate Bill 54—prevents county sheriff’s departments and local law enforcement from honoring an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer.
“Even if they want to turn them over, they can’t,” McEvoy told The Epoch Times.
Operation Guardian Angel gets around the law through federal arrest warrants, which McEvoy said leave the counties no choice but to hand the targeted illegal immigrants over.

President Trump’s choice to run the Kennedy Center has said he has found $26 million in fraudulent revenue.

No, Trump is Not Raising Taxes on the Poor to Help Billionaires
The taxation word game: Because the bottom 20% of earners pay negative income tax, it can always be claimed that any across-the-board income tax reduction benefits the rich more than the poor. Of course, the average working person, who represents the vast majority of the population, would be best served by having their own taxes reduced by 5% or 10%, regardless of whether wealthy individuals see a larger dollar savings from the same percentage cut.
Additionally, tax reduction bills often include cuts to free money and other government transfers given to the bottom 20%. So, any tax cut proposal from Republicans can be attacked by Democrats as allegedly hurting “the little guy.”
It appears that most of the proposed spending cuts in President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” would primarily affect the non-working or underemployed bottom 20% of earners, rather than working- or middle-class Americans. For example, the bill imposes Medicaid work requirements on childless adults aged 19 to 64, a change expected to save tax money by reducing enrollment by up to 10 million people by 2034, according to congressional estimates.
Similarly, reforms to SNAP would shift some costs to states and tighten eligibility, mainly impacting those without stable employment. By contrast, working families stand to benefit from new tax relief provisions, such as the elimination of taxes on tips, car loan interest, and overtime pay, all of which reduce the tax burden on hourly and service workers.
The only proposed cut that might impact middle-class families is the reform to federal student aid, specifically, the tightening of federal loan borrowing limits and restrictions on certain Pell Grant uses. However, this reform could help curb rising tuition costs. Many economists argue that the cycle of expanding government grants and loans has fueled tuition inflation.
The bottom 20% of income earners pay negative income tax, receiving more in benefits than they pay in. Through programs like refundable tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC), the average federal tax rate for the lowest quintile is -11%. Significantly raising their taxes wouldn’t even bring their net tax contribution to zero.
By contrast, according to the latest IRS data, the top 5% of earners, those with incomes of $252,840 and above, paid over $1.4 trillion in income taxes in 2021, accounting for approximately 66% of total federal income tax revenue. All the liberals demanding that we “tax billionaires” or insisting that billionaires should “pay their fair share” are a bit late, because billionaires are already supporting the bulk of government spending.
Given this distribution, the notion that the Trump administration is stealing from the poor to make the rich richer is illogical.
Democrats keep claiming that the new tax plan is a “tax hike on the poor,” but it does not increase tax rates for low-income Americans. Rather, it disqualifies some individuals from certain benefits and requires a larger percentage of them to return to work. Ultimately, this will result in greater tax savings for working people.
This also fits well with the deportation of illegal aliens, which will begin freeing up jobs at the lower end of the labor market. An added bonus is that, as illegal workers are removed from the labor pool, wages for those jobs will rise, possibly enough to make them appealing even to people who were previously collecting government benefits.
Another aspect of Trump’s tax plan and business policy that Democrats frame as “welfare for billionaires” is the reduction of taxes and regulations on businesses. The idea is to lower costs for businesses to encourage expansion and job creation. Right now, with tariffs in place, companies are already incentivized to relocate to the U.S. Reducing regulations and taxes would provide an additional incentive to accelerate that shift.
