Welcome  to the Page to Screen edition of the Yadkin County Public Library  Podcast, where each month, we’ll be discussing a book that has been  turned into a movie or TV series, as well as the reception of each.   This month we'll be discussing Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, is a non-fiction novel by John Berendt. The book, Berendt's first, was published in 1994 and follows the story of an antiques dealer on trial for the murder of his employee/lover. Subtitled A Savannah Story, with an initial printing of 25,000 copies,[1] the book became a New York Times Best-Seller for 216 weeks following its debut and remains one of the longest-standing New York Times Best-Sellers. The book won the 1995 Boeke Prize and was one of the finalists for the 1995 Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.The book was also adapted for Clint Eastwood's 1997 film, with several characters' names changed to protect their privacy.

Welcome to the eighth episode of Ripples in Space hosted by the Yadkin County Public Library.  Each month, we review a work of science fiction and discuss major scientific concepts used throughout the story.   For this episode, we are reviewing the 1979 science fiction novel  “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. 

This sci-fi comedy has seen every type of adaptation from radio, to video games and even stage shows.  This beloved story begins with Arthur Dent, whose terrible Thursday just became worse as the Earth is just about to be destroyed by aliens to make way for an intergalactic bypass.  The scary moment is cut short when his friend, Ford Prefect transports them onto another spaceship.  Ford is not of Earth but an alien sent to make updates for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Encyclopedia. Arthur embarks on a journey that will take him across the galaxy to a once forgotten planet with a crew of odd beings.  And a very depressed robot!

King Charles III will be crowned this Saturday, May 6, starting 5am EST. Here's a quick rundown of facts and cool things to notice while you're watching the ceremony. Andrea has pulled her inspiration from the review in April on S. J. Bennett's Her Majesty the Queen Investigates series that has Queen Elizabeth II investigating crimes. That series is available in regular print, large print, and audiobook in NC Cardinal. Welcome to the seventh episode of Ripples in Space hosted by the Yadkin County Public Library.  Each month, we review a new science fiction book, movie or show and discuss major scientific concepts used throughout the story.   For this episode, we are reviewing the 2021 science fiction, South Korean Netflix film Space Sweepers directed by Jo Sung-Hee.

Space Sweepers takes an interesting look at the idea of a heavily polluted, nearly uninhabitable Earth in the near future, where those who are considered elite can live on a newly colonized Mars. We follow a ragtag team of misfits who stumble upon a discovery that changes everything.  

For this episode we will talk about the movie and my review, the cast members,  recommendations for other movies and books that are similar and for a bit of science, take a look at the possibility of a habitable Mars.
