  • YUH 47 - Dean Simone and "Game Day"

It's Super Bowl week, and to celebrate we release the first of two football-themed episodes of Yeah Uh Huh.  In his career, Dean Simone has game planned against Burt Reyndolds's and Huggy Bear's sons and Giancarlo Stanton as a California high school football coach.  He has rocked venues as far away as Tokyo Japan with his band "The Smokin' Cobras",  and has thrown down in an old school barroom brawl at the Troubador Club on the sunset strip that featured flying chairs and broken noses.  But none of that stuff is why he visited the chatlab recently.  "Game Day" is the story of an Italian-American family from Philadelphia who converge on their parents' suburban Philadelphia domicile every Sunday to watch their beloved "Iggles" wage ware agains the NFC East.  Football is an aggressive game,  but it does not take long to realize the number of personal fouls in the game the Forte family play against one another this particular week far outweighed the transgressions between the birds and the boys.  Dean's fingerprints are all over this film in his multi-dimensional role,  not the least of which being lead actor.  I had a tough time editing this episode down to a manageable length,  we talked so long and effortlessly.  We had so much fun talking to Dean the episode just seemed to produce itself.

  • YUH 44 - John Badger from The Mercury Theatre Podcast

The Mercury Theatre Podcast brings back the days of yesteryeear with a large cast of talented voice actors recruited from around the web to deliver weekly anthlogy plays.  The mastermind behind this creative venture is John Badger, a latter day Orson Welles who writes most of the scripts and pre and post production tasks.  Lisa,  Aaron and I listened to quite a few from the anthology series and were particularly entertained by the shows about the Wright Brothers and The Denver Airport,  in addition to the clever mock commercials peppered there in.  Each episode of The Mercury Theatre podcast is between 25 to 30 minutes long,  or only a fraction of the 30-plus hours John commits a week to to pre and post production.  Our Spotify video this week includes of our cagy feline friend Solomon and lots of random pyro!  So,  you will not want to miss the visuals :).

  • YUH 43 - Rett Wicker's Debut Album "Around The Bend"

We spent last Saturday with Rett talking about Frank and Dweezil Zappa,  MTS Management, Weird Al and north Florida legends Lyndard Skynard and Tom Petty.  His upcoming album is "Around The Bend", quite literally,  and we took a pretty deep dive behind the whiskey-soaked concepts driving songs like "New Year's Day", "Sleep it Off" and "Dead and Buried".  The album drops this spring,  but here you are privy to three full tracks from this smorgasboard of singer-song writer delights a full two to three months before the online launch party!  On top of all this,  it got real surreal for a minute just after the traditional ad break.  Rett came to play in the chat lab,  complete with Peter Parker and Clark Kent references.  Oh,  and Regan has graduated to Waffles!

  • Yeah Uh Huh Episode 42 - "I Don't Want to Turn 3" with Gramps Jeffrey

After a career as an executive in the successful "Everything's A Dollar" retail chain,  Gramps Jeffrey was inspired to take a turn at writing a children's book due to his experiences with his own 6 grandchildren.  Written during the quiet solitude of the pandemic,  "I Don't Want to Turn 3" is based in a true story.  Names have been changed to protect the precocious,  but it is the story of Justin and a very bad habit he had developed during his terrible two's.  We all come to verious moral and ethical crossroads in our lives,  and the story explores one of those rites of passage most all of us are forced to confront very early in life.  We will not disclose the ending,  but you and your own kids and grandkids are sure to appreciate it's lesson.

Note: Yeah Uh Huh does not endorse Grand Theft Auto,  and any confession to crimes that may or may not have been committed approximately 45 years ago are covered by the Statute of Limitations of our state and are not admissable in court :).

  • Yeah Uh Huh Episode 41 - The Beatles' "Get Back" with Nick!

Fifty two years ago Michael Lindsay-Hogg produced the largely reviled documentary "Let It Be".  The film became known for it's apparent depiction of the sad,  acrimonious end of the greatest rock and roll band of all time,  The Beatles.  So much was made of that portrayal that it has helped to shape rock and roll folklore and perpetuate falsehoods about the band's break up that have gone virtually uncontested all this time.  It was not until famed "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson was given access to 60 hours of unreleased 8mm film from those sessions,  in addition to 150 hours of audio,  that the world became exposed to a far different story.  For a world trying to crawl and pull itself out of the quagmire of Corona,  the results of Jackson's technical restoration was were almost inspirational.  In "Get Back",  the incredible 3 part documentary released on Disney Plus over this year's Thanksgiving holiday,  we get to see the fab four rewrite history and show that the chemistry of their earliest days of the Cavern Club and their very first salvos of the British Invasion of 1963 was still alive and well.  If you have not seen it,  we encourage you to go back and take however much time it requires to consume 8 hours of documentary perfection then come back to listen to Lisa,  Aaron, myself and special guest Nick make our observations.

  • Yeah Uh Huh Episode 40 - "It's a Wonderful Time" with Doug Stebleton and Reinhard Denke

On Dec. 10, 2021 the Frank Capra holiday classic "It's A Wonderful Life" celebrated it's 75th anniversary.  Like so many, Lisa and I have seen the movie multiple times,  including a nostalgic visit to the theatre a couple years ago to see it how it was meant to be seen (on the big screen).  The movie has fans around the world.  Our guests this week were inspired by this 1946 Jimmy Stewart showcase to co-write a classic of their own.  Using the element of time travel juxtaposed against a nefarious heist caper,  authors Doug Stebleton and Reinhard Denke tell the compelling tale of Evan West,  a modern day film afficiando suddently transported to the set of one of the greatest movies ever made.  With characters like Donna Reed,  Henry Fonda,  Frank Capra and John Wayne intermingling with Evan and his partner in time,  William "Coop" Cooper,  be prepared for a great new take on the celluloid masterpiece.  Read "It's a Wonderful Time" over the holidays.

    Merry Christmas!

  • Yeah Uh Huh Episode 39 - Terry Shepherd

Terry Shepherd is the host of his own Podcast,  Authors on the Air.  His love of writing has culminated in a series of books surrounding a tough female detective,  Jessica Ramirez,  a character based on an admired friend and cretive advisor in life.  We found Terry to be a very easy going, fun guy.  Frequent flier Aaron joined us in this discussion about Terry's books,  favorite tv shows,  the best podcasting tools, writing dialogue and developing strong female characters in fiction. His most recent release in the Jessica Ramirez series,  "Chasing The Captain", had been released the week that we recorded.  But if great crime writing featuring a whipsmart female protagonist is your wheelhouse we encourage you to start with 020's "Chasing Vega" first.  Both are linked below,  and the third in the trilogy will be forthcoming soon.

    John Wayne S.
