In this episode we consider the readings for the third Sunday in Lent (Year C in the lectionary cycle): Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 63; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13; Luke 13:1-9. (The ACNA 2019 prayerbook includes Psalm 103; the RCL includes Isaiah 55:1-9).
We discuss Jesus' parable of the unproductive fig tree, temptation and endurance, satisfaction in God, and the burning bush.
Things mentioned in the Podcast:
-Kingdom, Grace Judgment: Paradox, Outrage, and Vindication in the Parables of Jesus, by: Robert Farrar Capon
-The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse, by: David Johnson and Jeff Van Vonderen
-The One Year Chronological Bible NIV
-Cradle to Cross wooden Lenten wreath with candles (can also be used during Advent)
-Wikipedia has a thorough discussion of the way Lent is "counted" in different corners of the church. Scroll down to the "Date and Duration" segment.
Our outro music is an original song by our friend Dcn. Jeremiah Webster, a poet and professor whose giftedness is rivaled by his humbleness. You can find his published works, including After So Many Fires, with a quick Google.
