In this episode of The Yoga Teacher Journeys, we’re chatting about the gunas the three qualities of nature in yoga philosophy: sattva (light and clarity), rajas (energy and movement), and tamas (rest and heaviness). These show up in everything from our thoughts to our food choices!

We talked about how to notice which guna is most present, and whether it’s helping or hindering us. Along with other yoga tools, we can learn to shift our state and feel more balanced. Yoga reminds us that we’re more in control of how we feel than we might think ❤️

In this episode, we unpack Bianca’s recent experience at Sivananda ashram in India - from the daily rituals and teachings to the challenges and beautiful moments along the way. We talk through the full itinerary, what it really means to live yogic principles, and how to bring these ancient lessons into our modern lives.

Some Ashram Learnings:

• Your inhale is only as good as your exhale. 
• Control the breath to control the mind. 

5 Points of Yoga:
  1. Proper Exercise (Asana) – Like servicing your car, movement keeps the system running smoothly. 
  2. Proper Breathing (Pranayama)– Breath is life. Without it, we can’t function at our best. 
  3. Proper Relaxation (Savasana) – Let the car cool. Avoid burnout. 
  4. Proper Diet (Vegetarian) – Fuel the body with sattvic food for clarity and strength. 
  5. Positive Thinking & Meditation – You are not the car, you're the driver. Awareness changes everything.
