    Publisher's Summary:
Darren Richards opened his eyes to find himself duct-taped to a chair with a crossbow pointing at him. Behind the crossbow is a hooded figure wearing a black-faced, round-eyed gas mask. The figure tells him what Darren knows: that he stole a car, drove it recklessly while under the influence of drugs, and killed a woman and her baby. His solicitor managed to get the case thrown out of court on a technicality so he has not paid for his crime. That, says the figure, cannot be allowed to happen.
Darren turns to his right. Next to him are his girlfriend and their baby daughter. Both similarly taped to a chair, gagged. It's very simple, explains the figure. Either you die or your girlfriend and child die. But someone has to pay. A life for a life. The choice is Darren's.

Best of British to DI Brennan
What made the experience of listening to Truth or Dare the most enjoyable?
Apart from the fact that the book was well written and the characters well developed, Martyn Waites' performance was sublime; one of the best readers of audiobooks, he really brought this book to life.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Cleverly written, to keep the reader/listener on the edge of their seat. This was accomplished by telling different stories from the personal points of view of the various characters who played pivotal parts, in two separate criminals' murderous deeds, which cleverly come together in the end.
    Any additional comments?
Absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller, suspense.

Sapna Sinha, an ordinary salesgirl in an electronics store in downtown Delhi, is approached by Vinay Mohan Acharya, a billionaire industrialist and one of India's richest men. He offers to make her CEO of his company. There is only one catch - she must pass seven tests from the "textbook of life". Thus begins the most challenging journey Sapna has ever undertaken - one that will test her character, her courage, and her capabilities. Along the way she encounters a host of memorable personalities, from a vain Bollywood superstar to a kleptomaniac Gandhian. At stake is a business empire worth 10 billion dollars and the future she has always dreamed of for herself and her family. But are the seven tests real? Or is Acharya playing a game driven by a perverse fantasy?
Vikas Swarup, acclaimed author of Slumdog Millionaireand Six Suspects, has written a compelling, suspenseful tale about the lure of money and the power of dreams. The Accidental Apprentice is international crime fiction at its most entertaining.

    Good--But Not as Good as Q & A
I am a big fan of Vikas Swarup's 'Q & A', the book upon which the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' is very loosely based; in fact, I will be teaching it again this fall in a gen ed lit course. So, naturally, I was eager to read his latest novel. Sadly, it did not live up to his first.
Like 'Q & A,' Swarup has created a frame around which to build his story. In the former, it was a series of questions the protagonist is asked on a game show; here, it is seven tests that the protagonist must pass in order to be named CEO of a huge company, a prize that will enable her to leave her boring, low-paying job in an electronics store and to provide for her widowed mother and younger sister. Both story lines are a bit fantastic, but this one lacks the delight in coincidence that figured into Q & A. Instead, Sapna is put to a series of grueling tests--without ever knowing until they are over that they actually were tests. Some of them border on downright cruelty. Sapna is warned that the final test will be the most difficult. It certainly is--but it is also way over the top and unbelievable, as is the final resolution.
    Accidental Apprentice
Story is a drag only towards the end I would say last one hour was bit interesting
    Would not recommend the book
As always Senegal Nathan was excellent as a narrator.
    I Hoped For More
I loved Slumdog Millionaire and I was really looking forward to this. I was slightly disappointed. This was entertaining and I liked it but it lacked depth in most characters and the plot was shaky.
Sneha Mathan was absolutely enchanting and the best part of the entire experience. I will be looking for more from her.

Full of suspense that will leave you wanting for more.
Can you believe Iâve read this story in just one sitting?! Dang! I canât believe Iâve hold on too long to read this story. Hahaay! I guess I should start erasing my judgment about book covers eh?
I could have given this story a 4-star rating because I didnât like the ending. Grrr, well Alex, I am available and I wouldnât mind your adventurous background hehe. But this story hook me up just as I was starting its first chapter so I canât help myself and just gave this one a raging 5-star rating.
This story gave me suspense just like what I feel when I read books from MHC but unlike hers, I was able guess the real culprit in this book. Well, it wasnât actually that hard, this story only have a handful of characters until the FBI showed up, haha, I was even confused on whatâs the name of the good guys. Well, Iâm not really good with names and being a sleuth, but this story just made my dream come true and spot on the real culprit without a sweat, so thanks Ms Author, though I think you should have make the ending better. Haha, it was actually great, but if youâre rooting for Alex like I do, then youâll absolutely feel the same way that I do haha. Oops haha, I should have said it first that this story also have a little romance added into it than blabber about Alex eh? Lol. So yeah, this story has it which makes me want it more. I love that it wasnât too cheesy and too cliché so it will absolutely left you to crave for more. Also, I havenât read other books with the same plot so thatâs absolutely great!
As Iâve mentioned above, this story only have a handful of characters so theyâre so easy to keep track of, not until the FBI came (curious? Just read for yourself hehe) And so far, I only encountered two to three words that I need to consult the dictionary for its meaning, so overall, my reading experience with this book was an absolute pleasure.
This is just my first time reading a story from the author so I didnât expected a lot so I guess thatâs also one of the reasons that I enjoyed this story so much. I canât believe Iâve waited this long to read this great story and made it sit idle in my reading list for almost a year (or maybe more? Lol) but I think whatâs more important is that I was able to read it eh? I believe that thereâs no such thing as late when it comes to book, haha.
This story made me squeal both of âkiligâ and for suspense and it left me wanting for more, so I guess Iâll be stalking the author at the end of this.
This book is highly recommended and I am so excited for you to read it too.

The story is fascinatingEmma Donoghue is clearly a master storyteller. (Northern Scot Midweek Extra and Irish Examiner)
Frog Music builds into a gripping tale of a womans struggle to survive in the anarchic world of a frontier city and shows what a wonderfully talented and versatile writer Emma Donoghue is. (Scottish Daily Mail)
This is another smart and finely wrought consideration of parenthood, further proof of Donoghues significant skill as an author. (The Observer - The New Review)
    Members Reviews:
To be fair I haven't listened all the way through
I was so excited to see a new novel by the author of Room, one of the most moving, thoughtful and insightful books I've read in years.
I downloaded it without hesitation and started listening...
First I fell asleep while listening (without the sleep timer on), so I decided to give it a fighting chance and start back at the beginning, convinced it was my fault for being too tired to listen properly... I stated again...
It was such a bitter disappointment to realise that this just isn't for me; I tried and tried but whether it's the characterisation (an astonishing strength of donoghue's last novel) which felt sketchy to the point of threadbare and borderline characatured, or whether it was the narration (more on that later) I don't know. Either way, after about 4 or 5 good attempts at getting past he initial "hump" to see if I could go the distance, I've reached my Waterloo I fear! This book is not for me.
A word on narration; you're selling an audiobook to the European market. The main character is a Frenchwoman, to be narrated with a French accent, and the book contains frequent use of French quotes and comments... PICK A FRENCH SPEAKING NARRATOR!!!
I'm sure many people will love this book but it's not for me :-(
    I tried
What would have made Frog Music better?
    more gripping first chapter.
Has Frog Music put you off other books in this genre?
    yes
How did the narrator detract from the book?
narrator was good ...just distracting with different accents.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Frog Music?
    all of the first chapter
    Any additional comments?
boring, confusing , far too drawn out.. complete waste of time trying to get into this story. Dissappointing
An engaging, frank and thrilling story
Where does Frog Music rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The first audiobook I've listened to in years and a great story. I may actually want to read it in print as well because I enjoyed it so much.

    Publisher's Summary:
Daniel Weir used to be a famous - not to say infamous - rock star. Maybe still is. At thirty-one he has been both a brilliant failure and a dull success. He's made a lot of mistakes that have paid off and a lot of smart moves he'll regret forever (however long that turns out to be). Daniel Weir has gone from rags to riches and back, and managed to hold onto them both, though not much else.
His friends all seem to be dead, fed up with him or just disgusted - and who can blame them? And now Daniel Weir is all alone. As he contemplates his life, Daniel realises he only has two problems: The past and the future. He knows how bad the past has been. But the future - well, the future is something else.
    Critic Reviews:
"Engagingly told, cleverly constructed." (Time Out)
    Members Reviews:
    Almost really really great
This story was witty and quippy, fast-paced and quite funny. I laughed out loud within the first 10 minutes of listening and thought "this is going to be a great ride." The way the characters unfolded was so good. The story telling was smooth and interesting with Banks jumping from present to past.
I loved the main characters and all of his side-kicks. I could really visualize the little town he lived in and his crazy house and the bar he frequented. I was completely invested in everything about the story.
I loved the snippets of the song lyrics peppered throughout the story. I would stop and sometimes rewind and listen to them again.
Then, Banks started to wrap up the story, and things fell apart for me. The ending was cliche, and predictable, though I didn't expect it because the book was so good. I didn't expect the ending to be that bad, so I guess it wasn't entirely predictable. It was a lame attempt to make you really like Weir,D (the main character) in the end when I already liked him. The wrap-up and the ending just really did not do justice to the rest of the book. It felt hurried and uninspired.
The narration was great. When I very first turned the book on, it took me a couple minutes to understand what he was saying his accent was so thick. But then I got used to it and the accent just added to the charm. His voices and distinction between characters were really great.
If you keep expectations a little low for the ending, I recommend this book.
Stands out from Iain Banks's other novels
If you could sum up Espedair Street in three words, what would they be?
    Enjoyable, Sad, Funny
Isn't it ridiculous that this asks for three words and has a minimum of fifteen to be able to submit it?
What did you like best about this story?
What I always like about Iain Banks's work, the characters.
What does Peter Kenny bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Well, being American, I would probably think of the characters with the "Hollywood" accent. Peter Kenny does a great job with differentiating the characters too.
Who was the most memorable character of Espedair Street and why?
Daniel. He's the protagonist in a first person perspective novel, so, of course, he's the most memorable.
    Any additional comments?
This is probably the most optimistic Iain Banks novel I've read. I haven't read all his work but a good amount.

    Publisher's Summary:
Georgia Waltz has things many people only dream of: A plush Manhattan apartment overlooking Central Park, a Hamptons beach house, valuable jewels and art, two bright daughters, and a husband she adores, even after decades of marriage. It's only when Ben suddenly drops dead from a massive coronary while training for the New York City Marathon that Georgia discovers her husband - a successful lawyer - has left them nearly penniless. Their wonderland was built on lies.
As the family attorney scours emptied bank accounts, Georgia must not only look for a way to support her family, she needs to face the revelation that Ben was not the perfect husband he appeared to be, just as her daughters - now ensconced back at home with secrets of their own - have to accept that they may not be returning to their lives in Paris and at Stanford subsidized by the Bank of Mom and Dad. As she uncovers hidden resilience, Georgia's sudden midlife shift forces her to consider who she is and what she truly values. That Georgia may also find new love in the land of Spanx and stretch marks surprises everyone - most of all, her. Sally Koslow's fourth novel is deftly told through the alternating viewpoints of her remarkable female protagonists as they plumb for the grit required to reinvent their lives. Inspiring, funny, and deeply satisfying, The Widow Waltz explores in a profound way the bonds between mothers and daughters, belligerent siblings, skittish lovers, and bitter rivals as they discover the power of forgiveness, and healing, all while asking, "What is family, really?"

    Mediocre story
That was not enhanced by the readers inexplicable failure to ask how to pronounce all Yiddish words or for that matter all words she was unfamiliar with. She could not even pronounce Maimonides.
