    Publisher's Summary:
Polly, an average, completely ordinary property lawyer, is convinced she's losing her mind. Someone keeps drinking her coffee. And talking to her clients. And doing her job. And when she goes to the dry cleaner's to pick up her dress for the party, it's not there. Not the dress - the dry cleaner's. And then there are the chickens who think they are people. Something strange is definitely going on - and it's going to take more than a magical ring to sort it out.

Clever, funny, tirelessly inventive Tom Holt maybe the most imaginative satirist to land on our shores since Douglas Adams." (Christopher Moore)

    Chickens Rule!!
Where does Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sausages rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    One of the best!!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gogherty-the answer was always almost in his grasp!!
    Which scene was your favorite?
    The Drycleaners leaving their house!!
Some magic you can believe in!
This is the 4th or 5th title of Tom Holt's that I've had the pleasure of experiencing but the first I've had as an audiobook. Either way it's another excellent story where even the plainest of characters have the most adventures and you are kept guessing and wondering until the end of the book where the mysteries are revealed in the most inventive and amusing of ways.
While listening to this one, i was asked about the story and anyone who hadn't read one of these before looked at me in complete bewilderment as i spoke of pigs and chickens and things that seemed downright silly. To anyone who has read any in his collection however it's only expected that the weird and wonderful will certainly come to life.
I enjoyed Ray Sawyer's narration and interpretation of each character, this defiantly helped in building a picture of each of them individually and aiding the escapism which is always something i crave in books, paper or audio.
Having read a few of Holt's books prior to downloading this, I was pleased to be able to hear that characters from other titles were still involved in 'the Trade'.
This is a book which can be enjoyed by anyone whether you've experienced Holt before or not, you must be willing however to open your mind to magic, mystery and farm animals that have more sense than perhaps you first thought!
life, liberty and the persuit of sausages
This is the first Tom Holt book I have listened to and I couldn't put it down.Well drawn characters in extraordinary situations, entertaining and funny, it's for those who like something completely different. If you like Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman you may enjoy this.
    Extremely slow!
What did you like best about Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sausages? What did you like least?
The story itself was okay, it was interesting and different. It took some time to get into the story, it was quite complicated although it did come together at the end.

Old school but hi tech adventure
If you could sum up The Jungle in three words, what would they be?
    Adventure, fun, glory.
What other book might you compare The Jungle to and why?
Good one. It's the typical Cussler. A basic succes formula. But other writers in the same genre use simular formula's. So the difficulty is the amount of books to chose from.
What about Jason Culps performance did you like?
Pleasant voice to listen to, no excessive enthousiasme nor monotome droning , enough variation between the characters, in short, fine by me.
If you could rename The Jungle, what would you call it?
Back to the Saltmines. Or Ruby Intelligence.
    Any additional comments?
Even if I have most, if not all Cussler books in my paper and/or digital library, I think i'll add them , as far as possible, to my Audible Library.
    Great story.
What made the experience of listening to The Jungle the most enjoyable?
    Fast paced action adventure.
    Any additional comments?
Great story, excellent narrator. A tale of high adventure and loads of action.
    Cussler at his best
What made the experience of listening to The Jungle the most enjoyable?
Great story, good performance and easy listening while on the M2 carpark each day
Have you listened to any of Jason Culps other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the computer rang the Chairman at the end
It's an action novel, and very American
It's an action-novel. As though the author have seen Die Hard too many times. If you like that, then that's fine.
It actually tries to be a crime-thriller though, sucking you in by hiding information and make you wondering what's going on - just like Dan Brown is so good at. And Clive Cussler does this well in the first one-third of the novel. After that it becomes a bit predictable, full of cliches etc.
Be aware, its a very American novel. And very post-9/11. I'm European and study International Relations, and there are some things in this book that are just waaaay off.
But still, it's enjoyable. Good narration. It's easy, like watching a block buster. But not something to remember.
    Couldn't get pass 3 minutes...
What disappointed you about The Jungle?
I have listened to all the Clive Cussler Oregan files books and really enjoyed them. For this book they changed narrator; this has happened before on a series and is not normally a problem. However this narrator takes an audible sharp in take of breath before he speaks, so every new sentence has there is a very annoying and very audible in take of breath. I love the stories of the Oregan Files, but after 3 minutes I could only hear the sharp in take of breath and knew I could not listen to it for over 6 hours.

    Publisher's Summary:
A beautifully crafted, consistently thought-provoking, and deeply intimate work by one of the most insightful writers of our time. A startling encounter on a New York subway platform leads two strangers to a run-down tenement where a life-or-death decision must be made. In that small apartment, 'Black' and 'White', as the two men are known, begin a conversation that leads each back through his own history. Their aim is no less than this: to discover the meaning of life.
    Members Reviews:
    Missing piece?
There are about 4 pages of the book missing from this reading, at the beginning of chapter 3. Black's story about aa and the drunks with the hiding of the whiskey in the toilet is missing.
    Too much hard work
As a fan of McCarthy I was really disappointed by this, and despite being a short story, I still gave up on it. It's well acted but plays out like one of those godawful stage plays that university drama societies put on to appear high-brow. Just too painful to finish. Read Blood Meridian instead.
    Apotheosis
Cornac McCarthy writes books that will leave you changed. This is one of his best. Shorter, a novel 'in dramatic form'. The reading is rich with drama. The prose excellent, sinuous - philosophy mixed with theology to profound effect. The simple antithesis of the two characters - Black and White - as sharply drawn as one could imagine. They transcend their stereotypes, each the epitome, the apotheosis of all they represent.

The highly anticipated new novel from the #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Memory Keeper's Daughter.
With revelations that prove as captivating as the deceptions at the heart of her best-selling phenomenon The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Kim Edwards now gives us the story of a woman's homecoming, a family secret, and the old house that holds the key to the true legacy of a family. At a crossroads in her life, Lucy Jarrett returns home from Japan, only to find herself haunted by her father's unresolved death a decade ago. Old longings stirred up by Keegan Fall, a local glass artist who was once her passionate first love, lead her into the unexpected. Late one night, as she paces the hallways of her family's rambling lakeside house, she discovers, locked in a window seat, a collection of objects that first appear to be useless curiosities, but soon reveal a deeper and more complex family past. As Lucy discovers and explores the traces of her lineage00from an heirloom tapestry and dusty political tracts to a web of allusions depicted in stained-glass windows throughout upstate New York-the family story she has always known is shattered, Lucy's quest for the truth reconfigures her family's history, links her to a unique slice of the suffragette movement, and yields dramatic insights that embolden her to live freely. With surprises at every turn, brimming with vibrant detail, The Lake of Dreams is an arresting saga in which every element emerges as a carefully place piece of the puzzle that's sure to enthrall the millions of readers who loved The Memory Keeper's Daughter.

    Much Ado about...what?
Despite the fact that I didn't think this book compares favorably to this writer's previous novel, "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" it is still an interesting listen and highly "credit-worthy".
I disagree with the hype I've seen on some other sites that say "Kim Edwards goes to Japan" or something similar. Actually this book has little whatever to do with Japan, and that part of the world is just an entry point for the story.
I thought Edwards had a good thing going in "Memory Keeper" because of the awkward situation presented at the beginning of the novel, and the difficult dilemma that forms the spine of the narrative from that point onward. In that way this setup reminded me so much of Jodi Picoult's work or novels by Chris Bojahlian.
"The Lake of Dreams", however, has none of this going on and it feels as though the story is missing a dimension. It's all about a woman obsessed with her geneaology and relationship to a stained glass luminary from the 1920's and 30's - all of which made me sigh and say so what? Edwards even leaves out the logical hookup with two of the main players. Mixed in is the usual dysfunctional family with plenty of real estate resources and financial assets to fight about, and the pc tone of it all makes it almost sound preachy. Compare to the neutral tone of "The Memory Keeper's Daughter".
The book is extremely well-written, despite the clich?? of using a story within a story told by a package of hand-written letters - as usual, wrapped and tied by the typical ribbon bow - but overdoes it on description and could have been about half as long.

    Publisher's Summary:
Major Ernest Pettigrew (Retd) is not interested in the frivolity of the modern world. Since his wife Nancys death, he has tried to avoid the constant bother of nosy village women, his grasping, ambitious son, and the ever spreading suburbanisation of the English countryside, preferring to lead a quiet life upholding the values that people have lived by for generations - respectability, duty, and a properly brewed cup of tea. But when his brothers death sparks an unexpected friendship with Mrs Ali, the widowed village shopkeeper of Pakistani descent, the Major is drawn out of his regimented world and forced to confront the realities of life in the 21st century.

    Excellent little book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It tells a wonderful and clever yarn about parochial Britain. It weaves intergenerational and racial considerations intricately into the text. I found it very engaging and entertaining. The reader is excellent and easy to listen to. He changes his voice to represent each different character which heightens the listening experience. Well done.
    An absolute delight
As an expatriate Brit, living in Africa, I LOVED this book for the beautiful descriptions of English village life, the countryside, and the quirky eccentricities of the older generation of English society. A gentle story of love in lifes Autumn years, interwoven with the harsher elements of family greed, racial prejudice & snobbery but with deft touches of humour to lighten the gloom of humanity behaving badly. Beautifully written & a perfect choice of reader I immediately looked on Audible.com for books featuring the author (none) & narrator (lots hurray!). Heartily recommended.
    Excellent
What did you love best about Major Pettigrew's Last Stand?
This would be one of my favourite audbiobooks so far. The narration is outstanding - BIll Wallis is pitch perfect as all the characters, especially Pettigrew - and the story is warm and engaging. I found myself thinking about the characters and what they would do next when I wasn't listening to the book. I can't recommend this audiobook highly enough.
    Deserves a Stand Up Ovation!
Major Ernest Pettigrew, a sixty-eight year old widower who hasn't yet gotten over the death of his wife six year hence, has just lost his younger brother quite suddenly and is understandably very upset about the news. When he sets out to leave his house and drive over to his sister-in-law's, he is taken by a temporary malaise just as the local shopkeeper, Mrs Ali stops by for a visit. The kind middle-aged lady helps the Major recover, even offering to drive him to his brother's funeral when he doesn't feel able to do so himself. And so a beautiful friendship is born. An unlikely friendship, with differing class and ethnic backgrounds (she's Pakistani), combined with life in a small English village, making such a pairing fodder for plenty of gossip and disapproval among the Major's friends and neighbours; his insufferable financier son is opposed to their union because it doesn't fit into his notions of career or socially enhancing manoeuvres; Mrs Ali's nephew, who helps her in the shop is also dead-set against the pairing, having recently returned from studies in Pakistan and renewed his Muslim faith with extreme vigour.

    Publisher's Summary:
Among the longleaf pines and family farms of eastern North Carolina, days seem to pass without incident for Margaret Clayton and Bernice Stokes, until they discover each other in a friendship that will take them on the most important journey of their lives.
Margaret, droll and whip smart, has a will of iron that never fails her even when her body does, while Bernice, an avid country-music fan, is rarely lucid. Irreverent and brazen at every turn, they make a formidable pair at the home where they live, breaking all the rules and ultimately changing the lives of those around them.
Lorraine, their churchgoing, God-questioning nurse, both protects and provokes them while they are under her watchful eye, as her daughter, April, bright and ambitious, determinedly makes her way through medical school. Rounding out the group of unlikely and often outrageous friends is Rhonda, the Bud-swilling beautician who does the ladies' hair on her day off and whose sassy talk hides a vulnerable heart, one that finally opens to love.
Weaving this tightly knit and compelling novel in alternating chapters, each woman gets to tell her story her own way, as all five learn to reconcile troubled pasts, find forgiveness, choose hope, and relish the joy of life. Rich with irresistible characters whose uniquely musical voices overflow the pages, The Sweet By and By is a testament to the truth that the most vibrant lives are not necessarily the most visible ones.
    Critic Reviews:
"[T]he underlying message of the power of love and friendship resonates, as does its depiction of the way in which people leading unremarkable lives can have a tremendous impact on those around them." (Publishers Weekly)

    Great 2/3 of a book.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The first two thirds of this book was great. The characters were interesting and the narrators did a splendid job. The last third of the book the story just ran out of gas. It was almost like it was a different author. I am still glad I listened to it but wish the author would have finished the book earlier.
    If you loved The Help...
you will love this also. Quite insightful and filled with compassion for the life lived by each character. I loved it! The reading is excellent and my emotions ran the gamut of tears to LOL!
My First Audio Book Experience was the Best Ever!
The Sweet By And By is a multi-generational tale told through the eyes of four women from different walks of life--thrown together in a nursing home setting in North Carolina. Two of the women are residents, one an LPN and the other a hair dresser who works at the facility. Their personal stories of innocence, hope, love, regret and loss are told within confines of the nursing home--the one thing these four very different women have in common. The author is able to clearly write about aging and loss with compassion, tenderness and humor, while not minimizing the realities of end of life and dying. It is a story of the resilience and courage told with stark reality, tenderness and humor.

A story about the lives of people across time
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
After listening to the audiobook Deliverance I really wanted to find something else on par with that genre as Deliverance is a darn good story with excellent narration. Or at least something that focused on the outdoors and hunting. This desire led me to this book.I would say the book isn't much about hunting. It's more about a romantic coincidence in the life of an average Joe. Usually, in these sorts of stories the hunting theme is used as an analogy to some trigger event in the life of the protagonist. I suppose if I thought hard enough I might find such a linkage in this story but in general I think it's fairly weak. That said the story is entertaining. It just isn't a macho manly man hunting story.I think the author would have benefited from better editing. I got used to hearing the same descriptive words used in the same sentence or in two sentences next to each other. For example the author might have used the following types of wording choices: "It was a rather strange thing for her to say but he paid the bill and strangely enough he had the exact change." These sorts of word choices are littered throughout the book. It doesn't ruin the story but it is a little annoying.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character simply because he and his love interest were really the only 2 people the reader could possibly care about and we never really get to know the love interest all that well.
What about Mark McDevitts performance did you like?
Hum, this is a tricky one. Mark sounds like an everyday average joe but slightly on the wimpy side. It sort of fits the inexperienced hunter persona the author is trying to portray and it also fits the inexperienced lover he is also trying to portray. There I go using the same descriptor in the same sentence. But my point is that I don't really buy it that such a wimp would travel across the country to hunt with someone who stands him up. Maybe it's that Mark's performance is wimpy but a little happy go lucky at the same time? I just don't believe such a combination would be a person who goes out and buys a shotgun never having shot a gun before and then decides to attempt to hunt even though his best friend who was going to show him how it's done bails on the vacation. I also don't buy it that such a character could be a successful salesperson.

The revelation that interior designer Alex Bennet had been a lion tamer for four years both delighted him--and put him on guard. But it was the siren look in her green eyes that promised to cage his heart forever. Alex was a woman whose past held more than one delicious secret, more than one unusual gift. And when their nights became filled with shockingly vivid dreams of the two of them in other times and places, they wondered if Fate was the ringmaster guiding their passions.

    Time After Time
Just a little different for Kay. One could almost predict what was going to happen. I did listen to the end. Don't know if it was the story or the voice of the person reading it.
