By exploring the lives of the Bibles most remarkable characters, we can learn how to dig deep within ourselves and find the strength to overcome and succeed in any situation.
Some of the most talented, faithful, and amazing people in the Bible didnt know that they had it in them either - not until God revealed to them the truth about their identity and abilities, often in the midst of perilous trials and challenging situations.
Like these heroes of Christianity, all of us have untapped talents, unclaimed abilities, and unmerited gifts waiting to be discovered inside us. Pastor Sheryl Brady believes God wants us to peel away the layers we try to hide behind, dissolve the excuses we use as camouflage, and reveal the beauty of our true selves. By sharing her own life journey as well as examples from history and current culture, Brady challenges us to reconsider the way we see ourselves and to re-frame our own understanding of how we got there.
You Have It in You! asks: Do you know what youre made of? More importantly, do you want to discover the strengths lying dormant inside you? Brady hopes you will be inspired to reconsider challenges as opportunities for self-discovery and faith-enrichment. She believes she can inspire in you a new perspective on all that God has brought you through and a greater awareness of all that youve accomplished and endured.

    Publisher's Summary:
Why are we all here? What is the meaning of life? What in the world is God actually doing with us? And what really happens when we die?
These fundamental questions have haunted virtually everyone since the dawn of human existence. But what if the answer were already right in front of us? What if it were hiding in plain sight, inside a book you probably already have - the Holy Bible?
    The truth is: It is.
There is a divine secret that clearly explains the meaning of life and exactly what is intended for your personal future - and it's more sensational than you've ever imagined. Journalist Joe Kovacs, a Bible-believing Christian and author of the Amazon.com best seller Shocked by the Bible, explores the truth explained in the Bible itself to unravel what Scripture calls ''the secret that was hidden from everyone since the beginning of time.''
The Divine Secret: The Awesome and Untold Truth About Your Phenomenal Destiny takes on the biggest questions of all time, including why God created men and women in the first place and what is really meant for everyone in the years to come. It spans countless centuries of God's plan, from the deepest part of antiquity, long before the creation of Earth, to the second coming of Jesus and far beyond. It explores the unpublicized reasons why we exist, why life is so challenging, and what exactly you're meant to do once Jesus comes back.
The Divine Secret also reveals what will likely happen to the many who never heard God's truth during their lives - or perhaps were confused about it. That revelation, drawn from the words of your own Bible, is not what you think. It's not what you've been taught - and it will leave you absolutely stunned.
Joe Kovacs is ready to present the incredible truth of your phenomenal destiny. It's time for it to be unveiled, understood, and broadcast. It's time to reveal The Divine Secret.

    Blah blah blah
Going on and on and on and on about something I just can't connect with. Did not finish reading it and threw it away in light of all the bad reviews and lack of time and patience to finish it. Too bad, I really liked his first book, shocked by the Bible. The second Shocked by the Bible (not finished yet) is VERY wordy as well and in chapter 2 (I believe) he promotes this book here...again...chapter 2 (SBTB2) was VERY LONG.
    A RESURRECTION OF FORGOTTEN TRUTHS
I consider this book to be an astounding piece of work. Without a doubt it is one of the best Biblical proclamations of truth I have read in a long, long time, and I am a voluminous reader that has spent over sixty of my eighty years in an ongoing quest for spiritual truth. Joe Kovacs writes in a simplistic way. Certainly, no effort is made to try to impress his readers that he is a deep theologian. His points are clear and placed front and center without apology. And best of all they are soundly backed up by Scripture. You may disagree with the points he sets forth, but you cannot accuse him of lacking Biblical support for the message he is declaring.

Keys to Encouraging Your Child's Faith
Excellently presented; this is the key to influential teaching of our children. If they would see it modeled and taught at home, then with support from the church, the principles of living out one's faith becomes more readily understood and hopefully desired and applied. Proper integration that is meaningful.
    More effective children's ministry
If faith is simply about good teaching and proper behaviour, then the church is a sufficient place for children to learn that, but if faith is that plus more--if it is understanding how to live out what we believe in real time, by the power of God's Spirit over a lifetime, then the family (with spiritually minded parents), would be the best place for that, according to Michelle Anthony in this book.
In many churches, large numbers of children seem to be graduating from church children's ministry without a firm faith, and many fall away from attending church entirely, notwithstanding engaging, exciting programs and apparently sound Biblical teaching. The missing element, according to the author, is the failure to recognise that the role of parents, and not children's ministry teachers, should be primary in the spiritual nurture of children.
The author provides seven core ideas which are foundational for family ministries within the local church:
    * Family is primary (parents are the primary nurturers of their children's faith)
    * Spiritual formation is our goal (not just information)
    * The Holy Spirit is the teacher (children need to learn to rely on him, not on human teachers)
    * Scripture is our authority
    * The big God story (children need to hear the redemptive storyline of the whole Bible)
    * God is central (the aim of all teaching is to cultivate an actual relationship with God)
    * Ministry support (a unified staff and teams of volunteers with a common goal)
Many parents do not know how to talk to their children about matters of faith or how to model a vibrant spirituality. Churches clearly need to do better in supporting parents in this area. However, it seems to me that the author's ministry model assumes that a children's ministry is essentially directed towards children of at least nominally Christian parents who bring their children with them to church on Sundays.

Covers a lot of pertinent and personal ground
Read this for assigned seminary course material. Seemed like the easiest first bite of a 5 book reading marathon. The content and pace of the book are great The incredible challenge comes not from the concepts proffered, but the application of them. Thomas's candour and vulnerability leave the reader no place to hide from the truth that is God's word.
This book has been life changing for me. Thomas ...
This book has been life changing for me. Thomas addresses pain and suffering in a way that I can receive, even as a skeptic who wants to believe.
This is book talks about counting the cost of being a Christian which is something many churches avoid in their desire to win everyone to Christ. If we count the cost, and still convert, we will really believe.
    Five Stars
    good condition
    Live Authentically Faithful
Great book on living out your faith. It makes you really take a look at what it means to be Christian and how our lives should reflect that. Lots of good bible teaching.
    Wow! Reassuring, but hard.
I took on this book with a small group of believers in a weekly study. I am not a reader, but this book kept me coming back. Maybe it is this time in my life, but the lessons and principles revealed through Gary's insights into scripture have been hard, reassuring, comforting, and challenging...all at the same time. Thank you.

    They Bailed!
The spiritual pathways assessment is no longer available. I contacted the publisher (Worthy Publishing), and they confirmed that Monvee no longer exists and cannot be reached, even by them as the publisher. The book is still decent info, but [...] as a website and Monvee as an organization evidently bailed on this project, and you will no longer be able to use their tools to build a personal Roadmap for spiritual growth as promised by the book. As far as I can tell, no statement whatsoever has been released by Monvee, John Ortberg, or Menlo Park. Hopefully something will be forthcoming. For now, though, save yourself the time, money, and hassle and don't bother buying the book.
    Good, but...
I should begin by saying that I'm a Kindle reader and this edition of the book does not come with the necessary registration for the Monvee assessment. I preceded this title by reading John Ortberg's book The Me I Want to Be which references Frequency and was my main motivation for purchasing Frequency. I like and agree with the premise and development of both books and am particularly interested in the online assessment that is connected with Frequency- hoping that it might be of help in the discipleship process for a larger group of individuals with whom I'm involved in a leadership role. My experience attempting to contact Monvee to arrange the purchase of a personal assessment has become frustrating and fruitless even though I've tried multiple means to make that contact. All emails with an address to @monvee.com have been returned undeliverable; all messages to customer service have remained unanswered after several weeks of attempts; internet searches result in older references that also proved useless; there is no telephone contact information.

    For an Evangelical Audience
I have an Evangelical-ish background and can recommend this for them, especially, as the author is clearly comfortable with them/us, hoping also to challenge and stretch.
My own taste prefers, especially when authors are not narrating, a less regional voice; think Brian Jennings or Diane Sawyer. For me, such voices would make listening less rigorous.
    Dr.Wittmer Rocks
This book is simply profound. Dr. Wittmer allows the Bible to speak for itself to reveal our eternal hope in fellowship with Emanuel on the renewed earth. God will have what he intended in the beginning, this time without the possibility of anything ever going wrong. What a day of rejoicing that will be!!
    Struggling!
Would you try another book from Michael E. Wittmer and/or Maurice England?
Not at this point. Performance is very monotone; therefore, I do not focus on what is being said.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Probably go back to John Bevere or Craig Johnson mystery.
How could the performance have been better?
Use of different tones in reading.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I have not found any yet.
    Any additional comments?
The author seems to be somewhat sarcastic which I think is inappropriate.

    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 12 hrs
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-23-11
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 7 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Recent days have seen a debate among evangelicals over how the death of Christ is to be interpreted. When a popular British evangelical leader appeared to denounce the idea that God was punishing Christ in our place on the cross as a "twisted version of events," "morally dubious," and a "huge barrier to faith" that should be rejected in favour of preaching only that God is love, major controversy was stirred. Many thought the idea of penal substitution was at the heart of the evangelical understanding of the cross, if not the only legitimate interpretation of the death of Christ. Yet for some time less popular evangelical theologians had been calling this traditional interpretation of the atonement into question. So, is the traditional evangelical view of penal substitution the biblical explanation of Christs death or one of many? Is it the non-negotiable heart of evangelical theology or a time-bound explanation that has outlived its usefulness? What does the cross say about the character of God, the nature of the law and sin, the meaning of grace, and our approach to missions?
The public debate which resulted was often heated. In order to act as reconcilers, the Evangelical Alliance and the London School of Theology called for a symposium in which advocates of the different positions could engage with each other. The symposium, which was attended by some 200 participants, was held when the July 7th bombings took place in London and drew together many of Britains finest evangelical theologians. This book contains the collection of papers given at the symposium, supplemented by a few others for the sake of rounding out the agenda, and grouped in convenient sections.
    Members Reviews:
Good summary of an important debate
The other reviewers have accurately summarised the content of this symposium. For me it was helpful in coming to a deeper understanding of Evangelicalism as a whole. It helped me see that Evangelicalism has never been a clearly defined organisation, with doctrinal boundaries to mark who is 'in' and who is 'out'. It is probably safe to say that a majority of Evangelicals are shocked by words like those of Chalke. Many have called for him to be expelled from the EA. But that has revealed the critical question: Who decides who is Evangelical and who is not? Who has the authority to accept or reject others as Evangelical? This book highlights the problem, but also highlights the fact that Evangelicalism is to ethereal a thing to doing anything potent about internal disagreement.
Papers from the London symposium on the theology of atonement
Steve Chalke opened a can of worms with his book 'The Lost Message of Jesus' in 2003 when he cast doubt on the penal substitution theory of atonement and in July 2005 a symposium was held to discuss the issues. Various papers were given at the symposium and several of these are gathered together in this volume, some having been reworked. It's a collection of very different essays, some focusing strongly on exegesis of particular texts, others giving an overall view of the issues, several peppered with Greek and Hebrew text (which might cause problems for readers) and most assuming a fair knowledge of the overall theology of the atonement.

    Publisher's Summary:
Many pastors feel ill-equipped to address the family issues, the addictions, the pain of abuse and loss, as well as the myriad other secrets that people in their churches and communities hide in their lives. Church leaders know they have a message that offers hope and healing, but they struggle to put structures in place that allow for focused recovery care. Recovery ministry is uncharted territory for many churches, but the need for it isn't going away any time soon. Churchgoers who struggle with personal pain, in the meantime, begin to wonder if they are slipping beyond the power of God. Ministries of healing and renewal are the bridge they need to access God's boundless grace and the encouragement of a life-giving community that can offer support and counsel.
Liz Swanson and Teresa McBean share their extensive experience working with recovery ministries and tell the stories of success and failure. They show how churches and leaders are providing recovery assistance to hurting individuals and how the ministry of recovery is being used for kingdom purposes, providing lost and hurting people with a bridge to the healing power of hope and forgiveness found in the gospel of God's grace.
    Members Reviews:
    Compelling stories of recovery ministries
Hopeless and helpless people are finding their way back to God, both within the four walls of the church and outside our traditional structures, through the door of recovery, according to Liz Swanson and Teresa McBean in this book. The book tells the stories of a number of churches which have differing types of significant recovery ministries.
    * Christian Assemblies Church has created a culture of acceptance and grace based on the AA Twelve Steps model.
    * Woodcrest Chapel requires all staff to take the recovery class Making Peace with Your Past, and uses a ministry team model that includes: losing regularly, acknowledging problems early, sharing feelings appropriately, and taking both sides.
    * Henderson Hills Baptist Church runs a Ministries of Jesus Clinic, in which a team of experts helps people with their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, and this includes a recovery program.
    * Salem Alliance Church's staff team worked through the Twelve Steps program together to ensure leadership commitment to its recovery program.
    * Bon Air Baptist Church's recovery ministry NorthStar was reaching people who would not fit comfortably in a normal church, resulting in the planting of new churches.
    * Caveland Baptist Church set up its ADO program (addiction, deliverance, outreach) in response to a drug epidemic in the town.
    * Grace United Methodist Church uses the Celebrate Recovery program, and their recovery ministry has become a key part of the church's evangelism and growth.
    * Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church is an African American church which runs an Adult Rehabilitation Ministry, providing homes, encouragement and discipleship for addicts in recovery.
    * Mercy Street Church is a church for people who do not fit into normal churches, meeting within the context of a larger church, Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
Many readers are likely to approach this book somewhat reluctantly. Most churches have enough problems of their own without starting ministries to attract more "problem people".
