    Title: Gospel of Jesus
    Author: Daniel L. Johnson
    Narrator: Garrison Keillor
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-11-10
Publisher: HighBridge, a division of Recorded Books
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 15 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Garrison Keillor and Dan Johnson both grew up in the bosom of fundamentalism. Their shared love of the Bible and its stories led to this collaboration, which blends details from all the gospels into a single book-length story.
Keillor narrates the biography of this amazing man, Jesus, from the slum of Nazareth in the province of Galilee, who confounded dignitaries, healed the sick, and taught those who would listen. He claimed to be God, and that through his death God would graciously forgive the offenses of all who accept this. His story is the foundation from which Christianity has developed, stumbled, and evolved.
Centuries ago, early Christians listened as the Bible was read to them. This new recording continues that tradition with a conversational translation performed by America's favorite storyteller.
    Critic Reviews:
"It's hard to imagine a more perfect match than Garrison Keillor reading the New Testament's Gospels....Listeners will invariably discover that upon hearing the New Testament read aloudas it was intended to bethey will encounter familiar stories in fresh ways and less familiar stories for what feels like the first time. They couldn't hope to have a more gifted and companionable guide than Keillor." (

This audiobook gives youth workers the opportunity to go beyond simply trying to motivate kids to serve those in need and invites them to help their kids wrestle with why those people are in need in the first place.
Specific topics that will be addressed include the out-of-the-box-Jesus, the power of repentance, biblically grounded motivations for service, the power of community, as well as how to respond to the poverty, racism, and unequal power relationships that abound nationally and internationally. All of these topics will be addressed in provocative ways that are grounded in an evangelical perspective on Scripture, ministry, and relationships.

    good stuff!
    Deep Justice
This book is one of the very best I've read to move students from just participating in service projects to deep justice work!
    A Monumentally Important work
This book is a must read for all those who have a heart for teenagers and care about the church. The days of entertaining youth, keeping them busy with church activities, and just trying to help them "make it" through their school years are over. This book points to a new and much needed understanding of what it means to help teenagers participate in embodying and witnessing to the Kingdom of God in their lives. The greatest value of this work is not that is adds to or even changes the sorts of things students can be a part of, but that helps to establish an entirely fresh paradigm of what it means to think about and do youth ministry. If you are not ready to rethink "youth ministry" from the bottom up leaving no stone unturned, then understand, this will be quite a dangerous read. Otherwise, it's a must have!
    Let's go deep!
This book, Deep Justice in a Broken World, is a much needed resource in a world of fast food, fast cars, and fast relationships. The authors cause us to stop and reflect on how to develop character, true character, in a generation that is trapped in consumerism and surrounded with marketing messages. This is the perfect book for anyone who cares about the future of America - and how our future can help shape the world for the better. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!

    For all creative Christians
Very practical for the creative person that loves Christ. This book gives direction, encouragement, and food for your spiritual soul.
    Good Book
I had my choir read this book along with Heart of an Artist. We really learned a lot about worship and praise and I would reccomend it to others.
    A Great Resource For Artists
Thriving as an artist in the church by Rory Noland is an excellent book that gives readers a glimpse into the life of an artsist as he or she relates art to ministry. The ultimate message is that the artist's mission in the church should be spreading the gospel ,and that the art is just a means to an end rather than being a focus point in and of itself. He covers musicians, visual artists, media technicians, writers, singers, and the like. The author gives very thorough descriptions of problems in the church concerning the artist and his or her ministry as well as many of the potential emotions involved. Not only does the author explain relatable scenarios concerning these problems but he also gives possible solutions to avoiding offense, envy, selfishness, misguidance, etc. With a quote at the beginning of each chapter and questions at the end of each chapter, the author is able to drive his point home.Noland's approach appears to be fresh, down to earth and often humorous. In the end, the author entices the reader into following him on a journey behind church doors, and into the heart of an artist. As a Christian artist myself, I found the book and the journey very enlightening.

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." Dalai Lama
After noticing wonderful reviews of this book, I purchased it for my wife for a Christmas present. If there is something that can say LOVE within a book, it is this.
The inside jacket of the book informs the reader how the author "...tells the story of many courageous people who have made bold choices to live a lifestyle of compassion and justice."
My wife has been enjoying the book which she reads as she starts her day. Then at night, she tells me what she's read and her interpretation of what the day's thoughts might be.
The author, Keri Wyatt Kent has divided the book into short chapters and at the end of each there are two action steps. In the first step, it asks the individual to take some action that might make a difference in the world. Where many people just contemplate doing things, this author is asking for her readers to take some kind of action.
The second step is a community step and the reader might do with a group of people that would pray for and care for each other.
I think that the reader who wants to make either a small or more significant step toward improving their life and their relationships with others would benefit from this book.
    Excellent, Well-Balanced Devotional
Keri Wyatt Kent has written a superb devotional. "Simple Compassion" aims to provide women with daily reflections grounded in Christian Scripture that lead to positive action.
Broken into four parts, readers are guided in an outward-moving circle that challenges them to extend the range of their compassion. Kent highlights the importance of community in compassionate Christian living and the importance of extending ourselves to those who may make us uncomfortable. She tackles everything from self-esteem to hunger to poverty to racism, all with wit and wisdom. Each daily reflection has a "Community Step" and a "Compassion Step," encouraging women to put their Christian faith into action.
I have to admit, I'm a little jealous. It's rare that I find a devotional that I would find satisfying and challenging. Now that I have, it's written for women! I highly recommend this book for Christian women.
    Really enjoying this book
I feel like this book really hits home to moms that want to make a difference, both in the lives of their children but also in the world. It definitely doesn't corner motherhood into a one dimensional phase of life. It helps you to see the bigger picture without diluting or diminishing your current struggles as a parent in a world that doesn't always value parenting the way it should.
Don't just talk the talk...walk the talk...
Keri Wyatt Kent'sSimple Compassion: Devotions to Make a Difference in Your Neighborhood and Your Worldhelps you or your group get on your way to putting your faith into action.

I have listened to this audio book twice now and I expect to listen to it again and again, it has helped me tremendously during a time in my life where I have lost everyone that meant something in my life and when my only refuge is in the the promises of our Lord and my hope that I may get closer to him via prayer. This book will inspire you to pray, to seek God and to become a better Christian.Thank you Dr. Jeremiah.
    Very inspiring and an awakening
The author delves into the prayer life and truths of prayer we should all know.
I enjoy the awakening of knowledge we already know. Yet after a period of time it slips from us. I sit wondering. What has happened to my prayer life. Feels so great to get back on track.
    Very inspiring
Just what I needed to hear. It's a great reminder about the importance of prayer.

    Poorley written, poorly argued
Even the most devout Christian might find this book annoying. About a third of it is just confirming paragraphs from the bible, such as "Corinthians verse 13" without connecting those quotes with what Eckhard Toole says in his books...
Bottom line: if you're looking for an intelligent argument against Toole's views, you wont find it here.
If you want to find out again how the Bible is always right and the rest are always wrong, even when they agree with the Bible, try it on.
Half way through the book I was still looking for the main argument...
Toole never trashed Christianity, so it is not comprehensible why the author needs to fight him...
But if someone is so dogmatic why would he ever read Toole in the first place?
I cant believe this got published.
Could listen to 2 chapters only
What disappointed you about A New Earth, An Old Deception?
The preview sounded interesting to me, reviewing info about Eckhart Tolle's life and how he came to write his New Earth book. Once I realized it was it was a proclaimed Christian writers put down of what he referred to as "New Age", I decided to listen to it anyway because I like to gather as much knowledge of religions as I can learn.
I love God and spiritual information as my chosen pursuit. Higher thinking and talk of souls are my favorite subjects.
The speaker had a nice voice that was easy for listening.
I became interested in the author's opinion and his thoughts about the Christian interpretation of Eckhart Tolle's book. It was my hurry that lead me to by the book without clearly examining the title that states an old deception. The sun was shining and I wanted to download a new book quickly to my Iphone so me and the dog could get out there into our day.
The theme of this writing quickly became semantics and a nit picking of every word written in New Earth. It was mean spirited and the narrator started to speak in an incredulous tone. I dont read stuff like that, once it gets ugly I dont want it in my head.
Iphone books speak into speaker right into my ears, I dont do murder stories or hate of any kind. This is not what I call entertainment. We bring about what we think about.
To me, I believe you can take any message and pick it apart by over examination of the word by word until you lose the artistic quality of the work.
Obviously many people love this sort of talk, and need it to continue to prove that their teachers message of Christianity as interpreted in the King James Bible is the one and only truth available on the planet. Many people are attracted to disdain and violence is very popular.
Raised as a Christian in St Johns United Church of Christ in the 50's and 60's I learned to love Jesus and understood this to mean He showed us our potential. Knowing love and healing through the strength of faith. The Divine is with us at all times, forever, during and beyond our life on earth.

    labeled as SERMONS OF----wRONG!!!
This BOOK has a monotone reader and is not what my thoughts were of RECORDED SERMONS. the reader just starts reading, no chapters, indexes, sub headings or anything... after the intro "Johnathan Edwards" has a letter and the reader does NOT change his inflection to notify the listener of his ending of the quote, neither is his reading of any sort a rendering of solace. (You know how your mind wonders off while reading & you misinterpret the author's clearly stated point? this reader has done that & sadly all we hear is his confusion)
