Great Book, Narrator not so much
I really like Pastor Ray. I have head him speak several times at retreats and camps. I wish he would have narrated the book. I felt the Narrator was very mechanical in his reading and at times was reading faster than other times.

    a GREAT listen
A short and concise book on how, when, and where to listen for Gods voice. It gave me practical ways to identify what God is trying to tell me and how to use it.
Excellent resource to re-direct your heart, mind, and energy back on The Lord
The flow of the book was easy to remember as I listened further into the book. There are a lot of great examples of scripture passages as well as personal life experiences that were drawn from to bring you to a place in your own mind that draws you to reflect on your own life - where you want to make good changes that allow God to be at work in your life so that you can hear His voice actively engaged in your own life. I hope you are blessed to hear this book as much as I was when I heard it.
    very enjoyable
I enjoyed this book. I wrote down many scripture references to go back and read later for my personal devotion. I also enjoyed the real life experiences shared, it helps to sink the concept in my heart.
    Biblically Sound
In the duration of this book scripture was used and hearing Gods voice was accomplished even in small ways.
A great follow up to Experiencing God
Experiencing the cross and a few others fell short of the lead that Experiencing God set.
This one showed absolutely how to humble oneself and teach the gospel by his or her actions... But not to be too judgmental of folks..
    Great listen.

Length: 2 hrs and 7 mins

    Release date: 10-21-08
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
"If there is anything that characterizes God's people in America today, it is the loss of the fear of God," states Henry Blackaby. When you do not fear God, he contends, you will not fear sin. The troubling result of this issue is that many Christians fail to recognize that they have sinned against God. The lack of holiness within the Church has reached epidemic levels. "True revival can only come," notes Blackaby, "when the people of God return to a healthy, holy fear of Him."
God, in His holiness, is grieved by our lack of it. In his worthy book, Blackaby urges believers to look inward, to see sin from God's perspective, and to live the standard that He has set up in Scripture. He writes, "The salvation of the nation has little do with Washington or Hollywood - it has to do with the people of God!"

Don't read this if you don't want God to do a work in your life.
This is a practical exposition of the Holiness of God and my responsibility to walk in His Holiness. I read this book and quickly was overcome with my responsibility. I now have an expectation to have the light of God's Holiness illuminate my life.
The majority of his books reads a lot like "Why Revival Tarries" by Leondard Ravenhill
Henry Blackaby gives a serviceable read on the concept of holiness. The majority of his books reads a lot like "Why Revival Tarries" by Leondard Ravenhill. I don't want to diminish this work by comparing with the Ravenhill classic; both books say in a very provocative way that holiness preceedes revival. Although this message needs to be rung forth for all of Christendom to hear, Blackaby would have done well to describe in more detail just what holiness is, how do we achieve it, aand then tie it in with revival.
    Loved it!
A great book. Particularly the section on how God hates sin. Powerful reminder of how we are to respond to the awesome revelation of God in our lives. Spoke to areas in my life that I must deal with.
    Holiness Explained
This book has impacted me because I have minimized my sin instead of confessing my sin to become the woman that God wants me to be. I want to be on the highway to holiness so that others may know God and that our nation can experience a revival. For a small book it will majorly impact your life if you truly want to be like Jesus.
It is a short book, but one of profound ...
It is a short book, but one of profound insight into the Holiness of God and the lack of understanding of the modern day Christian that keeps the power of God from working mightily. Even though it is short on words, it took a while to read while grasping the deep truth about God's command, "...be holy because I am holy."

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Professor Peters' extensive studies of these three monotheistic religious communities allow him to offer a comprehensive series of lectures beginning with Creation and ending with the Final Judgment. The history proper of the three communities of Jews, Christians, and Muslims begins with God's Covenant with Abraham. It continues with the birth, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus. When Saul, later called Paul, begins accepting Gentiles into the community of Jesus, the Christians are formed as a separation from the main body of the Jewish community. Once Christianity was identified as a new religion, it was no longer protected by the same laws that were extended to the Jews. Until the beginning of the fourth century, Christians were persecuted by suspicious and intolerant Romans. Force and violence are again linked with religion when Muhammad, the Muslim prophet, struck out militarily against those who rejected his claims to prophethood.
This course examines the similarities and differences between each community and traces their evolutions through history. In this course, Professor Peters leads listeners through a comprehensive study of the origins, characteristics, and primary texts of each of these fundamentally monotheistic religious communities. As Peters concludes, only by understanding their similarities and differences can we hope to make sense of the politics of religion which continue to fuel conflicts throughout the world.

Informative review of the 3 big religions
I was a bit surprised that I liked this set of lectures as much as I did. Professor Peters has an engaging speaking manner and he provides a concise, but interesting, discussion of the early beginnings of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths. The early prophets that are common to each of these faiths are described along with the subtle, and not so subtle, differences that produced the three paths. I rate this lecture to be a good read.
    Concept - "A"; Delivery - "C"
As a lengthy monologue presenting a very sound thesis, the Audiobook is a great success. Tying together the 3 monotheistic traditions of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity with the knot of their common patriarchal ancestry, the author tells a fascinating tale which also provides much valuable information about the 3 faith communities. As a "course," however (which it purports to be), the Audiobook is disappointing because of its unorganized, off-the-cuff presentation. I found it impossible, at the end, to find all the answers to the "Final Exam" questions without using outside sources.
Excellent overview of the 3 monotheistic religions
Prof. F.E. Peters has studied the three monotheistic or Abrahamic religions for most of his life. He is not only a well accomplished scholar, but also an excellent teacher.
In The Modern Scholar: Judaism, Christianity and Islam, he gives an overview of the three religions from how believers of these religions would approach these faiths. In the first few lectures he gives an overview of each religion and later on he identifies certain institutions and practises that when compares functions very much the same. He tries to present this information in as unbiased manner as possible, in which he greatly succeeds.
I enjoyed the lectures and I thought that the PDF-booklet that accompanied the lectures were excellent.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
This is a story that is destined to grab international headlines and raise fundamental questions about the origins of Christianity. The question will undoubtedly arise: are these inscriptions referring to a Jesus and Mary other than the Jesus and Mary of the Gospels? To this end, the listener participates in one of the most controversial investigations of an archaeological find in history. Starting with critical DNA testing from the human remains, the authors, with the help of top scholars and industry leaders, walk us through the actual timeline of the discovery, including an interview with the man who stumbled across the original unearthing of the tomb in 1980. They also detail the paleographic analysis of the ossuaries; analyze the symbology of the tomb and the ossuaries; reveal the importance of the names, using both the New Testament and Apocrypha; and evaluate the patina residue and the statistical probabilities of the cluster of names in the specific location.
A fascinating combination of history, archaeology, and theology, the revelations in this audiobook will change the way we think about God, religion, and everything we have learned about the life and death of Jesus.

    Sure to stir up reactionaries
First, I am a Christian and inspite of the controversy over the book, my faith has not changed.Yes there is solid evidence presented here, but to me it just confirms Jesus lived and it fills in a lot of gaps. I think Science and Faith can work hand i hand. It's the reactionaries that can't see that. Although techchnically some of the info and facts presented were way over my head.Ultimately whether you believe in the resurection or not shouldn't change wit this book. I did like the voice of the reader..
    Wanting more at the end.
I had a great deal of trepadation, whin I first started "The Jesus Family Tomb". My fears subsided as I moved through the book. I Find the information as credible. It's a good read. The auther takes time to help the reader to keep ones fath in the face of a paradime shift. If this book is read of listen to in one session, you will find some information, at the end, to be a little redundant.
I would not recomend "The Jesus Family Tomb" for the Christan that is unwilling to face what unrefuitable evidance.
This documary is smart. It respects the reader sceptisem. It speaks to the reader through facts, and does not ask for the reader to except the information on the basis athority but through evedance.
    Fascinating
Full disclosure: I'm an Episcopalian who has always doubted the divinity of Jesus. Call me irrational, but I find more inspiration in the historical Jeshua the Nazarene than the Jesus created by Paul, and later the Romans, to further personal agendas. Thus, this book amazed me. Told like a old-fashioned detective thriller, it presents its findings concisely and with conviction. As one reviewer notes, it is impossible to say whether or not the tomb in question held the remains of the actual Jeshua the Nazarene, but the theories are plausible, the evidence adds up, and for those of you who seek the Jesus of history, you may just find this title more inspiring than a church service.

    Title: Reading Judas
Subtitle: The Gospel of Judas and the Shaping of Christianity

    Narrator: Justine Eyre, Robertson Dean
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 45 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-08-07
    Publisher: Penguin Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 113 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
When the Gospel of Judas was published by the National Geographic Society in April 2006, it received extraordinary media attention and was immediately heralded as a major biblical discovery that rocked the world of scholars and laypeople alike. Elaine Pagels and Karen King are the first to reflect on this newfound text and its ramifications for the story of early Christianity. In Reading Judas, the two celebrated scholars illustrate how the newly discovered text provides a window into understanding how Jesus' followers understood his death, why Judas betrayed Jesus, and why God allowed it.
Most contemporary readers will find passages in the ancient Gospel of Judas difficult to comprehend outside of its context in the ancient world. Reading Judas illuminates the intellectual assumptions behind Jesus' teaching to Judas and shows how conflict among the disciples was a tool frequently used by early Christian authors to explore matters of doubt and disagreement.
Presented with the elegance, insight, and accessibility that has made Pagels and King the leading voices in this field, this is a book for academics and popular audiences alike.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent scholarship, easy to understand
Upon listening to this audiobook, I was impressed by the care and sensitivity of the authors in both their scholarship and respect for current Christian faith. They point out that the value of documents like Gospel of Judas is that they shed light into how Christianity was practiced in the early centuries of the faith. The knowledge of these diverse views can help modern Christians appreciate depth in history and understand different ways of thinking.
    Judas Iscariot: Betrayer or Saint?
Elaine Pagels, a chaired Professor of Religion at Princeton, joined by Karen King, a chaired Professor at the the Harvard Divinity School, share their insights on "The Gospel of Judas," a 2nd century Christian document, part of the Tchacos Codex discovered in middle Egypt in the 1970s, and subsequently irresponsibly stored for several decades, rediscovered in 2001, and finally made available for general study in 2006.
I will not repeat my general comments on Elaine Pagels' work which can be found in my review of her book on Revelations. Suffice it to say that, once again, Pagels, this time with King, helps the modern reader gain some insight into a puzzling, even alienating, early Christian text and the context in which it was written.
The authors make clear that the text was NOT authored by Judas Iscariot, but rather was written around 150 BCE following a tradition in which it was common practice to write under the name of a prophet, disciple or other notable figure as an indication of a school of thought.

    It is never too late.
This is truly a wonderful book. It was totally inspired by the Holy Spirit to help Nicky Cruz get the message about Jesus out to the world. Nicky talks about why this world is so fragmented and broken. It is because the family is broken. If we lead our children to have a loving relationship with Jesus, they would not look to the world for answers. We need to put Jesus Christ first in our lives and our children's lives. This book should be shared with the family as a prayer meeting. Help our children know that Jesus was the one who took the punches, bruises, had his beard torn from his face, all so we would not have to. This book is too good to pass up.
Nicky Cruz - A life changed by the Lord!
    Before I make my comments:
I want it to be known, I RECOMMEND this book. 4 1/2 stars
I will start by saying if you have never heard of Nicky Cruz.
Please read "The Cross and the Switchblade" by David Wilkerson, and then "Run Baby Run" by Nicky Cruz. Then you will have a better understanding of where Nicky Cruz came from.
After having reading the other two books (I mentioned) I found this book interesting. At first I thought it sounded like a book "about Nicky" but as I continued reading on I believe it was Nicky telling his life experiences FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.
Also, for the first half of the book I thought it should have been titled "The life and times of Nicky Cruz" I didn't quite get where they came up with this title "One Holy Fire..." As I read on it made more sense, though I still think the title was not the best match to the content of the book.
That being said I really like the book especially knowing the past of Nicky Cruz. I felt like he was quite transparent in this book, and gave glory to God.
This book, I felt, picked up excitement as you read it. The more I read it the more I enjoyed it, so don't put it down to quick.
It's a remarkable story, and feel it would be good for anyone hungry for the REAL and LIVING Christ.
    Jim
    Agape love. Apostolic faith.
'In as much as you have done it unto the least of these, My brothers, You have done it unto Me." Nicky Cruz makes you realize that cleaning up the vomit from a heroin addict who needs your help brings one far closer to YHWH and His glory than sitting in a comfortable pew listening to a sermon. Nicky and many others have had LIVES that are sermons. In this book you see up close what Yahusha meant when He said the prostitutes and tax collectors were going into Heaven before the religious leaders. It was awesome to see how one person's life can be used by the Holy Spirit to dramatically revolutionize tens of thousands of other people's lives.
