Subtitle: A Journey by Land to the Roots of Religion
    Author: Bruce Feiler
    Narrator: Bruce Feiler
    Format: Abridged
Length: 5 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-12-05

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Is Religion Tearing Us Apart....Or Can it Bring Us Together?
Where God Was Born combines the adventure of a wartime chronicle and an archaeological detective story with an inspiring journey of spiritual exploration. Taking readers to biblical sites not seen by Westerners for decades, it uncovers little-known details about the common roots of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and affirms the importance of the Bible in today's world.
Where God Was Born observes that at the birth moment of the biblical religions, all of the faiths took from one another, exchanged ideas, recognized their commonalities, and were open to peaceful coexistence. Offering a rare vision of God that can unite different faiths into a shared allegiance of hope, this is a brave, challenging, and profound work that addresses the most important issues of our time.
    Critic Reviews:
"Another absorbing blend of travelogue, history, Bible commentary, memoir, current events and passionate preaching." (Publishers Weekly)
"Feiler treads on very dangerous ground in this marvelous account of his journey to Israel, Iraq, and Iran....Erudite yet immensely readable, he chronicles a spiritual journey to the roots of Western civilization." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Easy Yet Thought Provoking
If you like ancient history for the lay audience, and are interested in how religion has shaped culture through the ages, you will definitely enjoy Feiler's book. I have read Feiler's Walking the Bible and Abraham, this is the first book of his I have listened to. He is a good reader. The book shares wonderful bits of history and definitely illuminates the bible. I do want to actually read the book now, though, because it is hard to absorb all the historical information he shares.
A challenge of faith for monotheistics.
The book was provocative, informative, and very interesting. Worthy reading if you can accept a challenge to your established beliefs. As a Christian, I believe the author's message would be embraced by John Paul or Mother Theresa. Seek and ye shall find.
    travelogue/Bible commentary/faith memoir in one
This excellent travelogue chronicles Bruce Feiler's search for meaning in the Bible in spite of modern flaws in interpretation as he roams the ancient archaelogy of the mideast. He creates a personal memoir that is accurate to Biblical scholarship, while simultaneously accessible to the religious layperson. I have given his book away to confirmands and recommend it to any member of the three great Western religions. It is destined to be a classic up there with "Why do Bad Things Happen to Good People," "Night", "The Prophetic Imagination," and "Mere Christianity."
    Good overview...

    Great content, so-so recording
I will be listening to Max's relevant and inspiring words several more times on my MP3 player (format3). However, I wish Max would re-record his material at a professional studio. I have several other audiobooks from Audible, and, unfortunately, this is the one with the lowest recording quality. Hey - don't let me discourage you from downloading it! I still believe the content is definitely worth the price. However, keep in mind that you will be straining yourself for about 20 minutes in the 3 HR recording. Enjoy.
    When God Whispers Your Name
A book that really speaks to your heart! It is evident that God is speaking through Max Lucado.
    Great
I think Max did an awesome job on writing this book...the illustrations were great and simple to understand. Max has a soothing voice and easy to listen too. I listen to this in one sitting.
A good book ruined by terrible audio recording.
What disappointed you about When God Whispers Your Name?
    1) Reader reads too fast. I really don't understand why he need to rush his reading.
    2) poor quality recording with plenty of background noises.
Would you ever listen to anything by Max Lucado again?
YES, but not by the same reader.
Would you be willing to try another one of Thomas Hripkos performances?
    NO.
    Any additional comments?
I am returning my purchase. This is the first audio I am returning.
    great book
What I love about Max Lucado is he makes understanding our Lord in terms that I can relate and understand. Thanks Mr. Lucado for loving and sharing your love of the Lord.

What do Heaven's Gate, Waco, and Jonestown have in common with a church near you? As incredible as it may seem, the very principles used by cult leaders are today employed in literally thousands of churches worldwide. Tactics once relegated to the ashrams of cults are now replicated at the altars of churches. In Counterfeit Revival, by Hank Hanegraaff, leaders of this great apostasy from Pensacola, Florida to Toronto, Canada speak for themselves - so that you can judge for yourself. Hanegraaff is the host of the nationally syndicated Bible Answer Man.

    Synopsis is a Bit Misleading
First off- let me state that this book contains no information whatsoever about Heaven's Gate, Waco, Jonestown or anything of the sort. It is an extensive discussion of the current pentecostal and evangelical movements in the Christian church. While the things discussed here are radical, they are by no means fringe cult activities that lead to the deaths of church members.
Second- this book is designed for Christians only. I don't mean that in an elitist sense at all, but rather, if you are not currently a Christian, then you probably already think everything discussed is loony and you don't need further evidences of that.
Third- while the author is making some excellent and quite salient points, they are repeatedly overshadowed by his insistence upon using acronyms and alliteration. That might work for young people who need to memorize plant phyla, it's not needed for intelligent adults who are trying to make critical decisions about their faith. It becomes a bit tedious.
It might sound like I hated this book, which I did not. I thought it was quite useful and agreed with the majority of the author's points. It simply wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Christians who are curious about the fruits of the spirit absolutely SHOULD give this a listen and evaluate the material for themselves. But if you're looking for a discussion about modern day cults, this isn't it.
A must 'hear' for all Christians
I read the printed copy of this book, but hearing the audio clips of these so-called 'revivals' is unbelievable. You simply must hear what goes on at these places to understand why the author takes the time to draw a disticntion between genuine revival and counterfeit revival.
    MUST Have For ALL Christians
This audio book is fascinating yet frightening. It is one thing to read about various modern day evangelists and their "supposed" false teachings . . . it is quite another to actually hear the blasphemous stuff from their own mouths. Counterfeit Revival, the audiobook, goes where the print version can't; it includes the actual audio clips of the subjects speaking the very heresies that the print version only talks about.
One listen to this and you will realize just how close "the end" must really be. We've come a long long way from the days when Jesus walked the earth with His disciples, and hearing this book really brings that point home.
A must read for the weary Christian
This is an excellent book for Christians who want to know what kind of false teachings are out there. It is truly amazing how Christians are being lead astray by the likes of people like Benny Hin becaue they do not know the Bible.

    Excellent
Very interesting discussion about the book of Genesis. All sides and religions are represented and therefore very enlightening discussion of the book and its stories.
    Wonderful
I enjoyed every minute of this book. I loved the give and take. The many different faiths represented. I found it enlightening. I am very glad I purchased this book.
    Atheist Welcome
Nine hours of pure intellectual hedonism. With all due deference to Steve Hofstetter this is the cure for the Cable Guy.
How Many people should be talking at one time?
I wonder if the several people who made this (book ?) ever listened to the text. At times there are 3 or 4 people talking all at one time.
The old expression "beat a dead dog to death" certainly applies here, as every topic is overdone until it becomes boring. Worse still, these people seem to seldom ever totally agree on any topic, with some of the views bordering on being rediculous. Save your money on this one!! Audible has better! The lowest rating allowed is one star, which in this case is much too high.

    Publisher's Summary:
"Paul's letters reveal a remarkable human being: dedicated, compassionate, emotional, sometimes harsh and angry, clever and quick-witted, supple in argumentation, and above all possessing a soaring, passionate commitment to God, Jesus Christ, and his own mission. Fortunately, after his death one of his followers collected some of the letters, edited them very slightly, and published them. They constitute one of history's most remarkable personal contributions to religious thought and practice." - E.P. Sanders
Aside from Jesus himself, one of the most important and best known individuals of the New Testament is Paul the Apostle, formerly Saul of Tarsus. A "Hebrew born of Hebrews", Paul's conversion to Christianity was unquestionably one of the seminal events in the history of the religion, because it would be Paul who spread Christianity across much of the Mediterranean. In the process, over half of the history recorded in the Acts of the Apostles covers the life of Paul, and over half of the letters of the New Testament were written by him. Many churches and cathedrals in the western world have been named after him, and on any given Sunday in any number of churches around the world, his writings and the events of his life form the basis of sermons, devotional literature, books, Bible studies, music, movies, and prayers.
    Members Reviews:
    excellent, quick read
This book does a very good job telling Paul's story in a clear, straightforward manner. It would benefit from maps showing the routes of Paul's journeys since most readers will not have a good idea where these places are.
    A Summary of Paul's Life
It is a summary of the life of the Apostle Paul with a few historical references. Pictures
, dates and names of important people make the book interesting for those who want to 'hear' what others say about the Apostle to the Gentiles.

    Publisher's Summary:
Join Thomas Merton in this remarkable course on the Second Vatican Council.
On October 11, 1962, the Second Vatican Council opened, and it had a tremendous influence on the Church. Fifty years later the decrees and documents of the council continue to be a lively subject of discussion.
Now you have the opportunity to discover the council and its documents with beloved mystic and author Thomas Merton. In 1963 and 1965, Merton delivered erudite lectures on the impact of Vatican II and on two issues explored by the council: the liturgy and the religious life. These lectures are now available for the first time ever as an audio program.
Merton first looks at the "Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy", which is, as Merton calls it, a work of supreme faith and the most important document on the liturgy in 1,600 years. Merton then looks at Vatican II's schemata on the religious life, which eventually culminated in the "Decree on the Adaptation and Renewal of Religious Life". Merton's lectures took place before this document was issued, so you will get a fascinating look at the inner workings of the church.
By looking at the council documents, Merton says, we are "in direct contact with the source of revelation". Don't miss the chance to take Thomas Merton as your guide through the documents and schemata of Vatican II.

    Very encouraging and uplifting!
When I started reading this book I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no family history. Did my mammograms every year and thought that can't happen to me. My next thought was why is God doing this to me. This book really helped me put perspective on my life. Most of all helped me understand God did not do this to me. He loves me and has given me a peace about the process I can't explain. We serve an awesome God who strengthens us and heals us.
    Correct, Encouraging, Helpful . . . TRUTH
Excellently presented! This book is easy to read and put to use. Not preachy in the least, but encourages to walk in truth and stand where God instructs us to stand. I especially love her correct view of doctors and health-care workers. Faithful to both the Word and the Spirit of truth and gives clear instruction on HOW to "stand." I wish I had 100 hard copies to give to people!

    Publisher: Swedenborg Foundation
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Divine Providence is one of the major works of the Enlightenment scientist and religious seer Emanuel Swedenborg. It provides a coherent and satisfying solution to what has been called "the problem of evil": How are God's goodness and power reconcilable with evil's presences in the larger world and in the human mind and heart? By tackling an array of issues that commonly undermine belief in God, including war, suffering, and inequality - and by revealing the wise and loving laws that lie hidden behind these seemingly senseless phenomena - Divine Providence aims to restore our faith in the meaningfulness of the world. Despite its universal focus, Divine Providence is also a highly practical book on the personal level, demonstrating how we can put aside negative attitudes and behaviors and grow into positive thought and action.
The New Century Edition of the works of Emanuel Swedenborg is a modern-language, scholarly translation of Swedenborg's theological works. The series' simple style retains the dignity, variety, clarity, and gender-inclusive language of Swedenborg's original Latin, bringing his thought to life.
This portable edition contains the text of the New Century Edition translation, but not the introduction, annotations, or other supplementary materials found in the deluxe editions.
