A good Background Story

Probably enjoy reading the book rather than listen on audio, but still a good book.

The narrator is not too bad, she reads in good clear precise UK English & tries well when she changes vocals to interpret the different characters.

I will look for other stories by this author in Whyspersynce so I can enjoy reading along whilst a narrator reads the book. All the rage now.

Really enjoyable novel

This is a gentle breeze of a novel. No surprises just a great story, easy on the mind and strong on historical authenticity.

Such potential but too immature

This is really book one in the series, not book 3!!!

I loved the concept of this book and there were some parts that really tickled me. Unfortunately there is a lot that needs to be improved. I really wanted to love this series but the flaws outweighed the delight.

Most of the time Corny is a fun quirky character who is a walking calamity. I liked her and loved her sassy remarks. The problem was the dialogue did not quite reach the maturity level her age warranted. She often spouts dialogue more appropriate to a Disney Channel show.

Steve is a yummy cop and I mostly loved him. He is a bit overbearing at times and ridiculous in his reasons for not wanting her to be a pet detective. Not really a job that makes me think there will be loads of danger.

This has a mixed narrative, you get both Corny and Steve in the POV. Again, not really living up to their age in thought or word. It feels more YA or New Adult, with bedroom scenes included.

I did not like the work stuff. Everything with the bosses son was a bit convoluted. It really wasn't needed for the overall plot and distracted from the romance and mystery. The possibility of a murder plot on her old boss is completely waved over.

Here are the things I loved an wish had been more a part of the plotline:

1. The whole pet psychic angle, that was super interesting and held huge potential.

2. Naughty ferret Pete, he was a riot!!

3. Corny's quirky klutzy moments. The speed dating was hilarious.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christy Williamson, who is not the right fit for this book. She has a very youthful voice that would be better suited for YA reads. While she has great energy, it only adds to the overall feel of immaturity in the story. This just wasn't the right pairing, it only served to highlight flaws. I would love to hear her on a younger read where her voice would be a real credit to the material.

The series is a very short read, so I will finish it. I hope it gets better because the concept has potential.

Title: Salem's World

Author: T. D. Jones

Narrator: Hollie Jackson

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 40 mins

Language: English

Release date: 08-13-14

Publisher: Teresa Jones

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 2 votes

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

Salem Richmond's a woman who has a lot going on in her world. She's running a company she inherited after her parents' tragic death. Her sister ends up in a mental hospital and as if that isn't enough, Salem thinks she's going through the early stages of menopause and her sexual desires are getting out of control. She doesn't think her world will ever be normal again until she meets Dr. Mark Graves.

Members Reviews:

Powerful Love Story on Many Levels!

From the outside,Salem Richmond looks like she's got it all together. At close to forty, she's a rich, physically fit, single, red-headed bombshell who owns her family's successful PR firm. Yet, behind closed doors, Salem's life is anything but grand. Menopause has struck her early, giving her terrible hot flashes and raging sexual desire. Many mornings, she's waking up beside men like Bucky, a young bartender who she brought back to her mansion for a night of forgotten pleasures.

Bad as these things are, they don't compare to the inner tormoil she's suffered for over a decade. Fourteen years ago, Salem lost her parents and nearly lost her younger sister, Cassie, to a horrific car wreck. Since then, Cassie has been locked in time, still believing she's sixteen and not understanding that their parents are dead. Salem's racked with guilt over not having gone with them on the trip and over having to put Cassie in the hands of other caregivers. Salem desperately wants her sister's mind unlocked from its mental prison.

Enter Dr. Mark Graves, a talented physician who specializes in mental disorders. Salem decides to meet with him and eventually convinces him (via a promise to fund a new mental health wing at the hospital) to join her and Cassie at their family's old cabin to see if he can finally reach Cassie and bring her back. What happens in the meantime is what Salem both wants and dreads. While Mark tries to help Cassie, Salem falls head over heels in love with him.

I have to say that what I love most in this book is the multi-tiered love story that unfolds along the way. Salem is a complex, but utterly sympathetic heroine. She can be brash and impulsive, but is generous and genuinely loves her sister and their parents' company. She even goes out of her way to help young Bucky, the one-night-stand bartender who's had some hard knocks in life. Mark is a widower who lost his wife of ten years to cancer. He's also a physician who sincerely cares for his patients and wants to do right by the new hospital wing and by Salem. He loves her as a man should, not just for a quick romp in the hay. This is a new kind of love for both of them, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it unfold.

Salem's World is another great read from Texas author TD Jones. I really had only one nitpick. With some tighter editing, it would have shined even brighter, but the story and characters themselves were solid. If you enjoy a contemporary romance filled with a multi-layered love story that will tug at your heartstrings, grab your copy of Salem's World today!

Very short read

Book three in the series gets better. I loved the pet psychic story this time. We got more into that part of Corny's life. I love her quirky friends and assistant, could really use the back story on that.

The dialogue is still immature, but I think I am getting used to it. I am very interested in seeing how the next book will go, this one was rather short.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christy Williamson, who is not the right fit for this book. She has a very youthful voice that would be better suited for YA reads.
