  • 84: How to “be still” when life is crazy
Have you ever sat in church on a Sunday, found yourself nodding along as the lady or gent at the front advocated stillness with God, but then when Monday rolled round, found your day to day reality totally different? If so, today’s episode of the podcast is especially for you. With practical advice but, more importantly, an alternate way of looking at this whole stillness issue, today we’re digging into how we really can do God when life gets crazy. • 83: What ‘The Secret’ might have looked like if written by a Christian
If you’ve read or watched The Secret and found yourself shaking your head in disbelief because of the way the author describes the universe like an over-excited puppy, rushing around doing your bidding, you’re not alone. In today’s episode of the podcast though, we’re considering the science behind the Law of Attraction and asking if any of it is Christian, can any of it be applied in a way that respects our faith. The short answer (by way of a spoiler!) is a big, fat yes! But for the longer explanation, you’ll need to listen to the full episode. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to share it with you! • #82: God wrote the book on personal development!
Often times there’s a conflict between the world of personal development and faith. Jesus talked about “dying to self” so it stands to reason therefore that any attempt to develop the personal i.e. the “self” isn’t biblical, right? Wrong! God called you to be like a light shining on a hill, a beacon of His love to a world that’s hurting. Do you really believe He’s going to set you up with a task like that without also giving you the tools to help you?!? I believe God wrote the book on personal development and in today’s episode of the podcast I’m giving you just three quick examples from the bible (amongst the hundreds I could have chosen from!) As promised in the episode though, here are the bible references: Philippians 4:8 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18 Matthew 6: 25 – 34 And remember, if you enjoyed this episode, there’s more where this came from. • #81: Growing the perfect for you tiny business with Paul Jarvis
Growing up in a society that celebrates bigger and better, it can be hard to buck the trend and do something completely different but that’s exactly what designer, author and creator Paul Jarvis from pjrvs.com has done. In today’s episode we talk about the mindset shift that goes along with doing something counterintuitive to the accepted wisdom, what Paul does on those days he gets in a bit of a funk plus what, if anything, he’d do differently if he were starting over in 2018. Also mentioned in today’s episode, Paul’s new book, Company of One, which is released in January and available to pre-order now. Visit ofone.co to find out more. (I’m about fifty per cent of the way through and am loving it so I’d highly recommend you check it out. #justsaying ) And to follow Paul on the one(!) social media channel he’s on (because Paul doesn’t do Facebook) go to twitter.com/pjrvs And finally, if you enjoyed today’s episode, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss next week’s episode or go to faithandbusinessplayground.com to sign up for updates (including reminders when there’s a new podcast episode!)
