The first part (of this two-part series) is all about getting through the external stuff that is keeping you from starting your podcast. I woke up, grabbed a cup of coffee, my Zoom portable recorder and one of my Shure mics and walked out to my front porch to record. The first words I spoke this morning to anyone...were into this microphone!

Of the past decade...

What are the events that have shaped podcasting over the past decade? The decade that has seen podcasts move from the basements of tech geeks to multi-million dollar contracts with the mediums biggest names. It is SO exciting to be part of podcasts right now.

For this day, I wrote down seven events that have have been significant in the awareness and growth of podcasts over the past 10 years.

As I shared, my life shifted when in 2012 when I saw the future of audio storytelling start to take shape. Podcasts were native on all iPhones and the medium was growing. In 2014, I made the leap to be a podcast coach and begin my life as an entrepreneur.

And what I dreamed would be a life of non-corporate, easygoing, money-making riches, turned out to be hard, lonely and extremely humbling. And it was AMAZING!!!!!

What's worse than being in a job you hate? Being in a job you love, that is approaching an end.

This was happening to me in 2008-2011 as radio was consolidating and firing thousands of talented people. This once great industry...was dying.

While radio was starting to shrink and become less compelling, two significant things happened in 2012, that shaped podcasting forever, and my career.

When I started out on my journey, to inspire, entertain and empower through spoken word (by being a radio DJ), it was an almost impossible task.

Because every radio station had a Gatekeeper.

This person's main job was putting the best people on the radio. And ONLY THE BEST. So everyone else never got a chance to share their story through audio.

But now...the Gatekeeper is gone. And EVERYONE CAN DO A PODCAST!
