It's almost over. Many would say "Thank Goodness", but the reality is the click of the odometer really has no real meaning in the grand scheme of things.
Regardless of how one sees and has lived the happenings of 2020, it has been a standout year in about as many ways as can be counted. No need to revisit all of that. Each of us has been impacted, mostly for the worse I would dare say. But....
Join Greg and John as they go over some of the brighter spots of 2020, and perhaps more importantly what takeaways they see.
One more thing.....2020 disrupted the show to a significant degree, and for those regular listeners, you have likely noticed as we wriggle into a way of producing a quality product in the midst of a lockdown. We have made some technological changes, and are still sorting some of that out. Suffice it to say, the audio quality is substantially better and will improve even more as we move into 2021.
We wish each of you our very very best wishes for a Happy New Year and look forward to having you along then as go to resource for some useful business advice and a bit of jocularity for good measure!

Now that the US is on the cusp of having a viable Corona Virus vaccine, we have been fielding a number of questions about it as well as about the more common and often discussed flu vaccine.
Greg and John will answer some of these questions as they pertain to the workplace, and just when and if such vaccination requirements can become a condition of employment.
Are there specific types of occupations which can be required? Certain employers? What about religious objections, or those with an ADA protection?
These and more will be addressed, so be sure to put on the earbuds and give this short shows topic your consideration.
We would love to have your feedback. E-mail us your suggestions, ideas, comments and critiques at [email protected]

It hardly seems possible. 2020 has been a year like that. Since the pandemic began, so much has happened. And here we are, looking squarely in the eye of a New Year. Given the time, something else has likely happened if you are a business owner who received PPP financing last spring.
That something is the end of your twenty four (or eight) week “covered period”. Not for everyone mind you, but If your funds were made available anytime before June, you are or shortly will be at the end of your window.
We have fielded literally hundreds, perhaps thousands of questions regarding the PPP forgiveness application and its variants. We’ll talk about those questions in today’s show.
From the possible tax implications, to providing your lender with a properly completed application, it will be covered. The important thing to know is not to get into a panic or rush.
The PPP Flexibility Act made the overall forgiveness process much more easy to deal with. Join Greg and John on today’s offering to find out why you should not PPP your Pants over this process!

Greg and John speak with special guest Cole Halpin of Avitus Group IT Security.
In the post COVID world many employers have arranged for their staff to work at least partially remotely. This often means IT implications as thousands migrate to home offices and are using company IT resources via remote access from home.
In some cases these means access through firewalls using IT assets which the company does not control nor own. This in-and-of itself creates some risks, but there are many others.
Cole delves into the these and more as John cites some rather startling statistics regarding both the dramatic increase in cyber crime during the pandemic, and the clever new tools being used.
It is an episode for anyone working from home or employing those who do with an interest in protecting sensitive company data and protecting those working from home from becoming victims themselves.

On September 17th, California Governor Gavin Newsome signed SB 1159 into law. Unlike most legislation, this law is considered "emergency legislation" and takes effect upon its signing.
It creates a rebuttable presumption in cases where COVID-19 infections occur in the workplace, creating a compensable injury under current Workers' Compensation insurance policies.
Join Greg and John as they discuss the nuances of this legislation and what it means to your small business if you have employees.
Record keeping is a must as are reporting requirements. Join the show and learn what these are and how to protect your employees and your company from running afoul of the Governor's new rules.
Many other states have similar legislation or have considered putting similar plans in place. John will share his research on this with the audience as well.

Join host Greg Heiss along with John McFarland, SHRM-CP and Kaiser Permanente's very own Rudy Hernandez as the guys discuss some mental health considerations for owners, managers and supervisors in todays post COVID-19 (wishful thinking perhaps) world.
We will discuss things to watch for, accommodations that can be made, both proactively and reactively with your workforce. There are things which can be done at little of no cost to assure the stresses of our new normal are mitigated as much as possible.
It can be a challenge for sure. We are seeing shattered workplaces, where nothing seems to be normal anymore. Some colleagues are gone, some work from home. Some may even have been affected by COVID directly. Moreover, the situation is ever changing as we learn more about the pandemic. This only adds complexity to the situation.
While it seems as though there might be no end in sight, Rudy assures us, that there most certainly will be, even if it is a ways off. His behavioral health background allows him to offer novel ideas, tips and tricks, and more importantly, a kind and caring heart.
Grab your pods, a chair and a cup of joe, and join us for this enlightening episode. You’ll be glad you did.

This will be a bit of a follow-up show from last time. We had to juggle a little to make it happen this way, and this resulted in a bit of a late publish date. Sorry about that! It makes sense though, and we hope you will agree.
