  • Generational Diversity in the Workplace: Some Answers

Generational diversity has never been so great in American companies as it is today.  Younger generations are entering the workforce in larger numbers than ever before and older workers are remaining in the workforce longer.

Each generation defines itself through its experiences and this shows itself in the workplace perhaps like in no other setting.  Exploit these differences in your organization by taking the time to understand them.

Greg is joined by an up and coming millennial, Savanah Natividad, HR Business Partner with Vensure Employer Services.  She offers her perspective and perceptions.  Sherri Stringer, corporate trainer joins us once again in this episode and offers balance as a seasoned Gen-X professional.

The discussion is lively, fun and informative and covers the often conflicting priorities and work-styles across the demographic.

  • Working 9-5...or Not! Alternative Workweeks, Some Things to Consider

Alternative workweek schedules provide the opportunity to schedule longer uninterrupted shifts, flexibility in managing a staggered workforce, and increased productivity.  When implemented properly, an alternative workweek can provide employees with many benefits, including more flexibility, longer shifts that minimize commuting time, and more.  While an employer may desire an alternative workweek schedule, the schedule must be presented to and approved by employees in any identified “work unit” with a majority vote and approval by the Labor Board. (employees covered by a CBA may be exempt from this requirement)

What exactly is an alternative workweek schedule, and is it good news for employees and employers?  Greg has another conversation with expert John McFarland, SHRM-CP, to answer this question and cover the potential pitfalls associated with adopting an alternative workweek schedule.

Join in as the team discusses the nuances of California employment regulations regarding required rest and meal periods.

Subject matter expert John McFarland, SHRM-CP, covers the myriad of requirements facing California employers and employers in other states having similar requirements.

Employers have the responsibility for implementing a meal and rest policy for all hourly employees, and for making sure the provisions in it are adhered to.  Failure to do so can result in fines and penalties.  Reliance on internal payroll control may not provide assurance of compliance if training is not current.
