In this episode you will hear the story of a very brave hero who lived through one of the bloodiest battles in Afghanistan before being medically retired from the damage caused during his service, the injury that can't be seen from the outside, PTSD. He travelled through the trauma in and out of the military, suicide attempts, contact trauma on his family and more.... Jonny Benton is the Founder of Heart of a Mountain, Director of Military Relations and Board Member for Wild Warrior Adventure, an entrepreneur, and a consultant/advocate for Veteran programs. He is a retired SSG from the United States Army. He served as an airborne infantryman during his active service. Following a combat deployment to Afghanistan as a Squad Leader and serving as an Army Instructor, he was medically retired in October of 2013 after being active for almost 12 years. Jonny and his wife, Lindsey, have been married 17 years, and live together in Colorado Springs with their three beautiful Daughters. Moving from being a loving and supportive wife and mother (of 3) to having the responsibility of being the sole provider, mother and full-time support to her now disabled husband. LaNae's story is truly one of transition from the expectation of what a miracle she was praying for would look like to how the miracle was intended to help HER become who she is today. LaNae truly is a living miracle in how she has triumphed and how together she and Dan have lived a life full of family, love, adventure and success! LaNae Maughan is the mother of four amazing children (listen in to hear the story of #4) who have been by her side to not only survive the challenges they faced but grew to THRIVE in the journey of life. As a family, they have traveled far and wide – from the Alps in Switzerland to the ruins in Mexico, each time finding creative ways to ensure that Dan was able to enjoy the journey with them. Together, they have canoed rivers, kayaked in oceans and climbed the Great Wall of China. They live by the motto that life can be good, even when it's hard.
