  • #14 on Rest

It's time to cozy up in your jammies for this one because our third to last theme *of the Self Study Program* is rest.

Bet you didn't think rest was coming did ya?! We tell this story in this episode: in the 2020 Self Study Program, the participants were guessing what theme would come next, and one woman guessed "accountability!" When she found out it was rest, the RELIEF that she felt really made us laugh. Accountability is a great theme! But it's not one of the 9 core themes of the Self Study Program because accountability is built into the Self Study Program on every level: first of all, it's up to you to show up and do the exercises and practices. And, "accountability is also built into having a sense of your own self. You keep yourself accountable. Accountability isn't like an external force. You keep yourself accountable because once you start to get in touch with who you are and what you need, the only other thing other than accountability is self-betrayal."

So... Welcome to rest. Get into your jammies, and get out a pen and paper for this one because those stories that are swirling around in your head need a place to live. And it's on paper, not in your life.

  • #12 on Boundaries

We cover a LOT in this episode: boundaries are hard and NECESSARY and doable! Kate and Ruby share stories about their experience in their 20s having very few boundaries with people in their lives, how that impacted their businesses, and some of those hard-learned lessons. There's always a relationship between a boundaries and possibility and not setting boundaries ruins relationships.

Prentis Hemphil describes boundaries as, "the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously."

A questions that arises throughout this episode when it comes to setting boundaries is "do you have a trustworthy 'no'"? And Ruby reminds you that "you deserve to have relationships that are mutual in respect, care, support, and love, and meeting of needs... and household chores."

  • #10 5 Day Challenge: on Freedom!

Today the Duality Project has something really fun for you: A 5 days challenge that will support you in cultivating more personal freedom in your life.

This is PERFECT timing with the holidays coming up because something that usually feels like freedom is saying what you need to say and the holidays are always a time where... we need to SAY something to SOMEBODY and it feels a little harder than usual ya know?

Or that whole seasonal depression thing? This will help you get some practices under your belt that might help remind you that it won't always be this cold, or that you're not as trapped as you actually feel. This is also a great way to remind you that you're supported, and you deserve to be supported. You also deserve to be free.

Assata Shakur reminds us that "It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” This starts with us, and in our bodies...

Throughout this season of the podcast, you can go through and see that we've dropped quite a few 10 minute-ish bonus episodes that include things like journaling practices or meditations which are such a great thing to come back to over and over and over again - so make sure you take a look at those while you're scrolling through podcast episodes.

The next theme of the Self Study Program that's coming out is all about freedom and in the next 10 minutes, Kate offers 5 day challenge - you can start it at any time. Would starting it today and practicing it through this holiday week be perfect?! It sure would be :)

  • #7 on Trust

Welcome to the Self Study Podcast! In this episode, Kate and Ruby of the Duality Project share what it means to have a Self Study Practice and they dive into the THIRD theme of the Self Study Program: Trust. They also share exercises for you to practice that help you deepen your capacity for trust. In this episode we unpack the 7 Elements of Trust developed by Brene Brown, we offer practices and plenty of storytelling to give you a deeper idea of what trust feels like in your body *shout out to Mickie in San Francisco*, and we even came up with this great idea: a podcast club! Do you have one?! Are you in one?! Should we start one!?

Here's our favorite quote from this episode: “If you’re honest about what’s real for you, shame can’t exist - because what’s true is just neutral unless we categorize it as otherwise.”

At minute 8:20 when Kate’s talking about the seat belt sign being off she says, “acceptance is the seatbelt light being off” she really meant to say, “trust is the seatbelt light being off” :)
