Although the rain fell, Umar (ra) sought aid from the Governors from the various lands.

Abu Obaydah (ra) was the first to arrive with 4,000 camels carrying food supplies.

Amr ibn Al Aas (ra) who was rebuked by Umar (ra) sent a caravan so huge that the front was in Al Medina and the rear was in Palestine.

During the year of Ash 18AH Umar (ra) takes to oil & vinegar (Al Bidaya).

The well known Malik Ad-Daar (ra), the treasurer & freed servant of Umar (ra). He saw The Messenger ﷺ.

Whoever takes from the world over and above what suffices him has then foolishly taken his death whilst he does not know (Daylamee).

... favour that which is enduring over that which is ephemeral (Ibn Hibaan, Surah 87 v16-17).

How astonishing is the one who affirms the everlasting Abode yet rushes to the abode of delusion (Baihaqi).

The world is not denied to anyone without that being good for him (Daylamee).

The Opening of Jerusalem, Al Quds

The Peace Treaty was therepon written, 15AH, Jaabiyah.

Umar (ra) dismounts and wades through a body of water leaving his clothes wet.

Whilst Umar was riding a camel, people started talking amongst themselves about the mode of transport, Umar (ra) remarks...'Their gazes are on the conveyances of the people (unbelievers) who have no portion in the hereafter (Ibn Assakir).

Upon entry into the Holy City, the amazed residents looked upon Umar (ra) in amazement as if they were observing a very Prophet (as) entering once again.

The Opening of Jerusalem, Al Quds

Umar (ra) leaves Al Medina for Al Quds, Jerusalem.

At Jaabiyah he was met by 2 Generals, Khalid & Yazind (raa), both were rebuked for donning splendid clothes (Al Bidayaa).

Abu Obaydah shook & kissed Umar's (raa) hand (Ahmad).

Umar (ra) camps at Jaabiyah where the poeple of Jerusalem came to sue for pece in lieu of paying Jizya (Tabree Taareekh).

An open battle with Ar-Thaboon was inevitable.

Both Muslims & Romans fought a battle as fierce as Yarmook… (Tabree).

Ar-Thaboon flees to Jerusalem and knows only the one with the attributes of Umar (ra) can liberate the city, to fulfil the prophecy of the Scriptures…

'Rejoice O Jerusalem! Al Farooq (ra) will come to you and cleanse you' (Tabri,Tareekh). 

Umar (ra) is described as a strong safe castle, Uthmaan (ra) as a pious soul, Alee (ra) like rust on a sword (Abu Dawud).

Amr (ra) praises of The Romans.

They are called Al Room after Al Asfar ibn Al Room ibn Aysoo ibn Ishaaq (as) ibn Prophet Ibraheem (as) (Qurtobi).

‘When words will emerge and actions become buried languages will change (Tabarani).

Umar (ra) ‘We have sent against the Ar-Thaboon of the Romans the Ar-Thaboon of the Arabs- lets see how things now fare!’ (Tabree).

The Emperor failed to take heed from The Messenger ﷺ, 'Embrace Islam and you will be secure.'

Summary of Yarmook

The defensive phase lasting 4 days had a limited tactical manoeuvre to restore the defence (loosing 4,000 men).

The Romans lost 70,000 men, half the entire force.
