The Plains of Yarmook

Vahan realises battle is inevitable, so sends a probing attack to Khalid (ra).

For almost a month, there was no major action on the Plain of Yarmook, this was beneficial for the faithfull as 6,000 men arrived to join them, most from Yemen.

In total, 1,000 Sahaba, 100 which are Badri's and 2 of the promised 10, Zubair & Abu Obaydah (raa).

Again Vahan offers peace talks and offers gifts to all the muslims, thinking that hardship and hunger brought them to Yarmook.

A bemused Khalid (ra) responds, we are a people who drink blood and we heard the blood of the Romans is tasty.... (Al Bidaayah).

Battle formation takes place.

Heraculis gathers 150,000 men from Russia,Slaavs, Franks, Romans, Greeks, Georgians, Armenians and Christian Arabs (Waaqidee).

The Faithful were split into 4 Groups Amr, Shurahbeel, Yazeed & Abu Obaydah (raa), their withdrawal to Jaabiyah was ordered.

The Battle of Ajnaadayn

After the duels, Khalid (ra) orders an attack as the sun passed its zenith.

The Romans, namely Waradaan plots to execute Khalid (ra); David a Roman saves himself; Dhirar (ra) dons Roman clothes.

Waradaan plot fails miserably and pays the ultimate price as Dhirar (ra) emerges.

Hisham (ra), the brother of Amr (ra) is martyed.

The Battle of Ajnaadayn

The camp of the Faithful stands at 32,000.

The Roman camp, 90,000.

Khalid (ra) addresses his men.

Dhirar (ra) is sent on a reconassiance mission, he is soon detected and 30 Romans pursued him, 19 fell at the hands of Dhirar (ra).

A Christian spy infiltrated the ranks of the muslims, he later reports, 'By night they are monks and by day warriors.'

Qubuqular replies, If what you say be true, it would then be now better to be in the belly of the earth than to meet such a people upon its surface!

The faithful are deployed with a centre and 2 strong wings. Khalid stays in the centre with Amr, Ibn Umar, Dhirara & Rafi (raa).

The similarity between Tabuk and The Perilous March.

Khalid (ra) intends to join his brothers in Sham, but must avoid The Roman Garrison.

Raafi ibn Umayrah aTh-Thaay (ra) suggests to walk through the Syrian desert as this is the only route.

It's June and it's the peak of the heat.

The first 3 unrelenting heat soaked days passed uneventfully and the mandatory prayers continued.

The prayer alone in the desert is virtuous by the magnitude of 50.

Their water was meant to last for 5 days but finished by the end of day 3.

Day 4, the column resumed the march, conversations had now ceased, they camped and slept not.

Agony in their throats, they could only repeat in their minds, Surah 3 v173, Sufficient for us is Allah SWT.

The column formation was no longer neat and Rafi (ra) could no longer see.

Abu Bakr (ra) slips outside The Spiritual Perfection for a moment and verses are revelaed.

Zaynab's marriage and Ayesha's (raa) innocence was declared in the heavens.

Commands in War

Do not kill a young child, a woman or an elderly infirm man.

Do not cut down fruit bearing trees or demolish buildings.

Do not slaughter a sheep or a camel except for food.

Do not drown or burn date palm trees.

And do not steal from the war booty or show cowardice.

Do not demolish a church (Muwatta).

4 Battalions are sent to Ash-Shaam

Yazeed ibn Abu Sufiaan (ra) > Caesarea

Abu Ubaydah (ra) > Emessa - Himms, Syria.

The first to march is Amr (ra) with 3,000 men and is instructed to pass by Aylah (a sea-port, modern day Aqabah) named after Aylah (raa) bint Madyan (ra) ibn Prophet Ibrahim (as) (Tabaqat)... and is told to consult in matters of war (Tabarani).

During the Era of Khilaafur Rashideen 

Abu Bakr (ra) is elected to the high post, the people of great understanding (as the traces of Jahiliya areba bygone) under Amr (ra) say... They will continue experiencing good as long as they continue in this manner (Tabaree).

Banu Hashim assumed they had the right to the high post, later they retracted this view, hence their view was not Divinely Sanctioned.

'Verily I am an arrow from amongst the arrows of Islam and you are the archer who shoots the arrows and also gathers them, thus evaluate the toughest and best of them and launch, Amr advises Abu Bakr (ra) (Itmaam bil Wafa).
