ground notes from Yes Mountain
(Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea)
& bending force through
the mountain’s overrunning
summer kudzu, upraised
as a thought
I found a pine, barely
fledging under vine
strangulations, & later asked my wife
if meditation, that refuge
from self, poses
questions we cannot know
without the process, cannot
know answers within
the process, &
she tells me the trick
is to not-think, just
arrive & I’m wondering how
& if I can
ever leave this mountain, the owls
like night’s doorbells, squirrels
picking dawn locks
& the pine trees, like
minds, moving unsimply
into the world’s entanglements

today’s circuit, sun
unrelenting as swarms, the
bugging hordes with me
by the tomb in an old script
I cannot read, at this hill’s apex
a bright & humming cloud
of hot trees’ scent
& I’ll tell myself whatever this is, hold
it, hold it within, this sentence
another circuit I’ll walk
under each morning’s freezing shower,
hold, hold, whatever
is or might be, these things
that you’ll becoming, & then be
Dan Disney’s latest books include New Directions in Contemporary Australian Poetry(co-edited with Matthew Hall;Palgrave) and accelerations & inertias (Vagabond Press), which was shortlisted for the Judith Wright Calanthe Award and received the Kenneth Slessor Prize. His individual poems have won numerous prizes, including, most recently, the Peter Porter Poetry Prize. For the last 15 years Disney has taught in the English Literature Program at Sogang University, in Seoul.

山上蔓延的夏季葛藤,
升起,如同一个想法
我发现一棵松树,在藤蔓的
绞杀下,勉强抽芽。
后来我问妻子,冥想
这个逃离自我的避难所
是否会提出一些若不经历这个过程
我们便无法知晓的问题
是否在过程中也无法找到答案
她告诉我诀窍在于“不去思考”,
只是抵达。而我在想如何
以及是否能够
离开这座山,猫头鹰
如同黑夜的门铃,松鼠
拨动黎明的锁
而松树则像思想一样,
并不简单地
卷入这个世界的纠葛
今日的环行,阳光
如蜂群一般无情,
一群群恼人的家伙随着我
盘桓在坟墓旁,墓碑上有我读不懂的
古老文字,在这座峰顶
一团明亮而嗡鸣的云
饱含热烈的树木的香气
我告诉自己,无论这是什么,把握住,
把握住,把它留存在心里,这个句子
是我将在每个清晨的冷雨中
行走的另一段环程。

都是你将成为、也终将成为的事物
