The Amazing Spider Man 2, which was released in China yesterday, has broken the record for screenings of an overseas film.

Yesterday 40 percent of all cinema screens across the mainland were showing the red and blue agsty teenage arachnid.

The Marvel movie also put in a solid performance in north America taking 92 million dollars over the weekend to place it firmly in the number one spot.

It's the second highest opening weekend for a film this year behind another Marvel offering "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." which made 95 million.

The film is the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster, "The Amazing Spider-Man". And runs hot on the heels of the previous trilogy which ended in 2007.

In the previous trilogy "Spider-Man 3" opened to 151 million dollars in 2007, "Spider-Man 2" grossed 116 million dollars over the four-day July Fourth weekend in 2004, and the original "Spider-Man" opened to 115 million dollars in 2002.

It's official; the big names in the new "X-Men" movie are coming to Beijing for the film's Chinese mainland premiere.

It's time for fans to get their autograph books ready for the arrival of these big stars. It's been announced that Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage and Fan Bingbing are all heading for Beijing to attend the premiere of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" on May 13th.

In a promotional video released recently, the cast delivered the news.

"Hi, everyone. I'm Hugh Jackman from 'X-Men.' I'm James McAvoy. And I'm Michael Fassbender. We have some really exciting news that we are going to share with you. The cast of 'X-Men' will be creating an X-Men experience around the world. So after the global premiere in New York, we'll go to cities all over the world in a week. We're going to be visiting premieres in London, Moscow, Singapore, San Paolo, Beijing and Melbourne."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" stars an ensemble cast, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

The 3D film serves as a sequel to 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and 2011's "X-Men: First Class", as well as a follow-up to 2013's "The Wolverine".

This time around, the X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that would mean doom for both humans and mutants.

The film is set to be released across the Chinese mainland on May 23rd.

If you are looking for drama and adventure, the Chinese thriller, "The Ghouls", is something you must not miss.

Adapted from the bestselling fantasy novel, the movie tells the story of grave robbers and is going to hit the big screen next year.

The online fiction, "Ghost Blows Out the Light", or "Gui Chui Deng" in Chinese, has gripped the hearts of countless readers, thanks to its mysterious and suspenseful plots. Since it was published in 2006, the book has become one of the bestselling novels in China.

Now, its movie adaptation, "The Ghouls," is schedule to be released in 2015, which will no doubt delight its many loyal readers.

Set in the 1980s, the novel follows a former soldier and his partner as they raid tombs in search of treasure. The two team up with an American archaeologist after they fall victim to a curse. In order to release themselves from it, they have to seek clues among many mythical sites.

Wuershan,who once helmed the record-setting fantasy, "Painted Skin: The Resurrection", is going to direct the new movie.

The director says he has spent two years preparing for this film.

"I have visited many tombs. I've also visited many museums to speak with archeologists. I have learned many things, including Feng Shui and extreme sports. Still, I think that two years of preparation is not enough."

Since there are many supernatural elements in the book, fans question how the film version will portray spiritual content.

Chen Guofu, the film's producer, answers:

"Everything the fans love about the book will be present in the film, but we will find a more scientific and reasonable approach to explain these phenomena."

Filming starts in August, but the cast list has yet to be unearthed.
