The English magazine "The Economist" has announced the best books of the year with Chinese writer Mai Jia's novel "Decoded" on the list.

The best books recommended by the magazine were divided into six categories, including politics, biography, history, economics, culture and fiction. Mai Jia's Decoded was listed in the fiction category.

The evaluation of the novel by the magazine says: "At last, a fine Chinese novel that holds its own as a work that book-lovers with no special knowledge of China will relish. By a former member of the intelligence services, Decoded stands out for its pace and for the sheer novelty of the tale it tells."

The English version of the spy thriller was published and released in more than 20 countries by Penguin Classics in March last year. It became the first contemporary Chinese fiction ever published by Penguin Classics, marking its entry into the mainstream of global literature.

After Chinese novelist Mo Yan, the Nobel Laureate of Literature in 2012, Mai is considered to be one of the few Chinese authors with "overseas success".

Mai Jia 麦家，中国当代著名小说家、编剧。主要作品有长篇小说《解密》、《暗算》、《风声》、《风语》和《刀尖》，电视剧《暗算》、《风语》和《刀尖上行走》，电影《风声》和《听风者》等。其中《暗算》和《风声》是掀起中国大陆当代谍战影视狂潮的开山之作，影响巨大。

Decoded《解密》，麦家创作的长篇小说。2013年入选英国“企鹅经典”文库，是中国第一部被收进该文库的当代小说。2014年3月18日，《解密》的英译本在美、英等21个英语国家同步上市，首日便打破中国作家在海外销售的最好成绩。
