by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on September 4, 2016)
The problems in Malachi’s day started at the top, with the priests. But corruption among the leaders almost always trickles down to the people! Join us today as we continue reviewing the sins of the priests, which was one of the primary reasons God sent this final warning to His people before the first coming of Christ.

In today’s message, we continue looking at the sins of the priests in Malachi’s day. They were not only questioning God’s love for them, but also bringing the lame and the halt and the blind as sacrifices, instead of the best of the herds. In the sermon today, we review much of what we have preached before, and learn more of the problems facing Judah in this time.

As we began to see yesterday, the priests were committing grave sins in Malachi’s day. The first questioned the love of God for His people, and then when worshiping Him in tithes and offerings, they brought the lame and sick of the flock instead of the best of their material possessions. Join us as we continue our exposition of the Book of Malachi, which was God’s final warning to the Jews before Christ’s incarnation.

As we get into the heart of the problems in Judah in the time of Malachi, we find that there were issues that went all the way to the top. We have already seen that they were questioning whether God even loved them! God had to remind them that He has proven His love over and over, most clearly in the fact that He loved Jacob while hating Jacob’s twin brother Esau. Today, we begin to see that the problems in Judah started with the priests themselves, and the half-hearted way they were worshipping the Lord. Join us as we continue looking at the problems in Israel in Malachi’s day.

In this series from 2016, we read about the final prophecy sent by God to the Jews before the incarnation of Christ. One of the problems during His day was that the people had even begun to question God’s love for them! Truly this was a “final warning” about repentance, and being prepared for the most important event in the history of man to this point: the birth of Jesus as a baby in Bethlehem. Join us as we continue looking at the opening verses of the Book of Malachi.

Back in 2016, we engaged in a series on the Book of Malachi entitled, “A Final Warning”. Malachi’s prophecy was, indeed, the final warning to the Israelites before the initial advent of Christ. After this final book of the Old Testament, God was silent for over 400 years! There was no inspired word from heaven until the cry of the Christ Child in a stable in Bethlehem. Join us as we begin looking at this important prophecy that completes the Old Testament and leads us into the New.

As we began to see yesterday, there are many placed in the New Testament where Jesus told His disciples to be of “good cheer.” Today, Elder John Morgan Owens continues along this thought by looking at other examples of Jesus cheering His disciples in the face of difficult, and seemingly impossible, circumstances. Join us for the conclusion of this sermon today, entitled “Be of Good Cheer.”

As Jesus is preparing for Calvary, He shares some last words of encouragement with His disciples: “Be of good cheer.” He does not tell them that the tribulations of the world will go away; on the contrary, He emphasizes that there WILL be problems in this life! However, He reminds them that He Himself has overcome the world, and therefore they can have joy and comfort in their daily walk. Join us as Bro. John Morgan Owens teaches us about why we can have good cheer in a cheerless world.

As we began to see yesterday, much like the sweet mingled wine that cheers the hearts of God and man, the sweet gospel message brings joy to the hearts of God’s children. We were learning that there are some truths mingled together that make this gospel blend sweet to the soul of the broken-hearted sinner! But there are some things that do NOT belong, such as the teaching of any kind of works-based salvation. And most gloriously, the cup of the wine of God’s wrath will NEVER be visited upon God’s children! Join us today for the conclusion of this powerful message by Elder Kevin Lofton, Pastor of Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
