The New London Gin Craze.
Tom du Croz presents #InGoodTaste - cooking up a storm every week on ZoneOneRadio - the community radio station for Central London.
A pure grain spirit, tasting predominantly of juniper berries - gin has a fascinating history. First brewed as a medicine by monks during the black death, it’s popularity grew during the early 18th century in London, sparking a “gin craze” when consumption spiralled out of control.
Its reputation now restored, Gin is enjoying something of a renaissance, with almost 120 brands now available on the market.
We speak to Olivier Ward of ginblog.co.uk, take a tour of Ian Hart's distillery in Highgate where he produces the award-winning Sacred Gin and take a boat trip with Ross Butler of Butler's Gin to find out why gin has come back into fashion.
