Zone-casts: Heel Turn

The first full week of 2020 begins with Owen, John, Trace, and Oscar deliberating and deciding the worst things in wrestling for ProWrestling.Cool’s annual Year End Awards. The categories on this part are: Most Egregious Misuse of Talent, Worst New/Temporary Gimmick, Worst Show, Dot Bull$#!% Moment (Biggest Bummer of 2019), Worst New Trend, Worst Promo, and Worst Feud/Storyline.

John and Oscar are two philistines who don’t follow “real wrestling” like New Japan Pro Wrestling and only have a vague knowledge of its wrestlers and storylines. Join them as they run down both nights of the company’s biggest show ever, Wrestle Kingdom 14, and give their “expert” predictions on who’s going to win. They also discuss a lot of other things that have nothing to do with New Japan. They’re idiots, after all.

John, Owen, Trace, and Oscar return to deliberate the big categories for ProWrestling.Cool’s annual Year End Awards. These include: Best Non-In-Ring Performer, Tag Team/Stable of the Year, Female Wrestler of the Year, Male Wrestler of the Year, Best Feud/Storyline, Best Event, and the Top 10 Matches of the Year.

Oscar believes that controversial booker Vince Russo is a creative genius and that WCW’s Bash at the Beach 2000 is his magnum opus. John faces down this Bad Take on a Pole match in this special Christmas Wednesday (on a Monday) edition of Zonecasts’ Worst Podcast(TM).

AEW ended its first year of existence with a bit of a whimper. NXT ended 2019 with an absolute bang. And Heel Alternative closes out the last live episode of this year with John and Trace obscenely tired. Still, let’s talk some wrassle!

Fresh off a couple busy days and long nights of podcasting, a sleep-deprived Oscar and John meander without a show format into conversations about production issues with AEW on TSN, Joey Mercury laughing as Ring of Honor burns, Shayna Baszler’s hatred of Teslas, 90’s sci-fi television shows and which Village People are unacceptable to cosplay.

Owen and John discuss the WWE releasing a bunch of people on Sunday, Tito Ortiz becoming a “WWE Champion”, and recap the latest episodes of SmackDown and Raw. Plus their predictions for Sunday’s barebones Tables, Ladders, and Chairs pay-per-view.

MLW can’t retain talent. AEW is doing some cool things and also some characters that really aren’t working. NXT is putting on the same four matches endlessly. It’s just another week in PLURfessional wrestling! Somehow Trace and John manage to still keep it posi tho.
