This week on the Film Club: Charlotte is back in charge, and today sets the theme of "Actors from the UK and Ireland", with Jame McAvoy in 'Split'. When 'Kevin' (McAvoy), a man evidenced to have 23 personalities, abducts three teenage girls, a war for survival breaks out between those within his head, and everyone around him. The girls must find a way out before the monstrous '24th' personality emerges. Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Betty Buckley star in the main roles along with McAvoy.

Charlotte set the theme of 'English/Irish Actors' yesterday, with her next Film Club choice being 2013's '12 Years a Slave', featuring Michael Fassbender. Based upon the life of Solomon Northrup, in the years before the Civil War, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the South. Subjected to the cruelty of one malevolent owner (Michael Fassbender), he struggles continually to survive and maintain some of his dignity.  The film won three oscars for 'Best Picture', 'Best Adapted Screenplay' and 'Best Supporting Actress' for Lupita Nyong'o. 

Charlotte continues to look at famous English and Irish actors on the Film Club this week, with today's focus being on Tom Hardy in 'Legend'. Hardy stars as both Reggie and Ronald Kray, the two infamous twins that left their mark on the London underworld in the 1960s. Using violence to get what they want, the siblings orchestrate robberies and murders while running nightclubs and protection rackets. With police Detective Leonard "Nipper" Read hot on their heels, the brothers continue their rapid rise to power and achieve tabloid notoriety.

To round off this week, today on the Film Club Charlotte looks at 'The Dark Knight', specifically Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Following the events of 'Batman Begins', Batman (Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. However when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism. The film one two Oscars; for Heath Ledger's supporting acting, and best sound editing.
