Chris is back and heading the Film Club this week, selecting the theme of 'horror' today. We start this week with 'Near Dark' from 1987. When Cowboy Caleb Colton (Adrian Pasdar) meets gorgeous Mae (Jenny Wright) at a bar, the two have an immediate attraction. But when Mae turns out to be a vampire and bites Caleb on the neck, things get complicated. Wracked with a craving for human blood, Caleb is forced to leave his family and ride with Mae and her gang of vampires, including the evil Severen. Along the way Caleb must decide between his new love of Mae and the love of his family.

Next on this week of 'Horror' films, Chris looks at recent smash-hit 'Get Out'. Daniel Kaluuya stars as Chris, a young black man off to spend the weekend with his white girlfriend’s parents. Despite the warm welcome he receives, things slowly reveal themselves to not be all they seem. This wildly successful American horror was written and directed by Jordan Peele, and stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener and Lil Rey Howery.

Chris continues a terrifying horror Film Club this week with 1985's 'Re-Animator'. Directed by Stuart Gordon, the sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror is loosely based on an HP Lovecraft novella. Jeffery Combs is Herbert West, a young scientist who creates a solution which can re-animate the dead, and along with his colleague Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott), begins to test out said serum on the human bodies. In conflict with the two is Dr. Carl Hill (David Gale), who wishes to steal the formula and take the glory for himself.

Chris' last entry for the horror themed Film Club this week is 'Braindead' from 1992. This cross between comedy and horror comes from Peter Jackson, who wrote, directed, and even cameos in the film. When a young man’s mother gets bitten by a rabid rat-monkey, she turns into a monster who he attempts to hide in his basement. Yet each time she escapes, another relative joins her in un-death.

Today Chris starts off a week of 'Indie Comedy/Drama' with 2017 release 'I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore'. Written and directed by Macon Blair, it stars Melanie Lynsky as Ruth, a nursing assistant who gets burgled and decides to find her missing things. She’s aided by her neighbour Tony (Elijah Wood), a socially awkward heavy metal fan. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at this years Sundance Film Festival.
