10 Joys of Homeschooling

There are more than 10 joys of homeschooling but in this podcast, I cover my top reasons for why I continued to homeschool for over thirty years. My homeschool journey that began in 1986, ended in 2018. It wasn’t all joy and roses but it was real life that brought the five children closer together – and some are now adults and still close today!

When you are down, try not to make major decisions.

When you don’t think you are doing a good job homeschooling — remember, you love your kids more than any teacher would and you care so much more.

When you think that everyone else is doing a better job they are not! Believe me.

When the house is a wreck and the inlaws are coming for dinner get everyone to help. It builds character!

Also, you may not use this podcast as a guilt trip! Please don’t think that I know it all. I don’t. I promise. Please don’t feel inferior. Think about it this way, you’ve been chosen by God to homeschool! Please do not consider yourself a failure – we are all sisters and on this journey together! Come up with your own 10 joys of homeschooling and if you have more than ten or they are different than mine, please share it with me!

10 Joys of Homeschooling:

We spend time with our children each day. We do not send them off for others to mold our children according to their idea of what makes a perfect education. We spend quality and quantifiable time with our kids.

We have the opportunity to form young minds that love the Lord, and put family above friens

We are training the next generation of leaders

We know that are children are learning…something! Everything we do is school. Our home and our lives are a place where education takes place.

There is less pressure whether it comes from peers, academic or even pressure they put on themselves to succeed. This makes it way less stressful for the child.

No homework! Even when I was a teacher I did not give homework –if the student did their work diligently in class. Needless to say I was a favorite teacher. The same with our children. If they get their work done, no homework!

Freedom to teach about God. We get to share our faith. We get to teach our children without any fear of being told we can’t.

You can change or more things around to make it work for you and your family. You know what makes the most sense and if doing math every day works – then great.

Learn alongside your children. This is my favorite part of homeschooling. I was able to learn the history I never learned the first time and geography. The missing gaps of my education were made whole!

Learn the true meaning of love. As a family we grow together, we cry and laugh together. We know the meaning of loving each other. Seeing babies born into our family or others, seeing others meet milestones in their lives, it teaches something no text book could ever teach.

Favorite scripture – Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
