Ryan Vandervlis is a former junior hockey player, mental health advocate, and founder of the Ignited Minds Foundation. He played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Concordia Stingers before a severe 2018 campfire accident left him with life-threatening burns to the front of his body, requiring a medically induced coma and a long recovery. He now works as a child and youth care counsellor for Hull Services in Calgary and founded Ignited Minds Foundation which aims to support young Albertans facing mental illness from trauma.
