What was the influence of Buddhism on the preacher from Galilee? The lost years refers to the time in Jesus's life between his childhood and the beginning of his ministry, a period not described in the Gospels. Following the New Testament accounts of Jesus' young life, there is a gap of about 18 years in his story. The best known and most popular explanation for the Nazarene's hidden years, is by far, his supposed travels to India, Tibet and surrounding areas where he encountered Hinduism and the teachings of the Buddha. But is this story true?
