The New Sensitive

162: A small trick to begin recovering from people-pleasing

Listen Later

What's up my fellow people-pleasers, this one goes out to you. Codependency and people-pleasing stem from, at their core, a lack of identity. One of the primary ways a codependent struggles is because we never had the chance to develop a sense of identity that is independent of what others think of us. As we recover from people-pleasing and codependency, one small but effective shift is to start a daily practice of noticing when you're asking externally motivated questions ("What do they want, what do they need, what are they thinking about me?") and shift them to questions that are centered on the self.

Have you asked yourself what you need today? What you'd like today? What would feel good today? Start there, and let the path unfold in front of you. That's what today's episode is all about and how to start building these questions into your life.
