A huge Olympic triathlon PR, a first-ever cutoff-time finish, and a big reality check for the half Iron Man are all packed into this one. Scott and Charles come out of a brutal race weekend with fresh confidence, new gear, and a lot to say about what actually moves the needle on race day.
The two compare splits, heart rates, pacing, nutrition, and transitions from the Three 70 Lakeside Triathlon, where Scott crushed his best 10K and Charles finally proved he can stay steady on the bike without blowing himself up. They break down the swim chaos, the surprisingly great course setup, the weather luck, and the small details that made a massive difference - from aero socks and Tailwind to SIS goo, scratch chews, and ice towels.
You’ll hear:
Why Scott thinks TrainingPeaks is paying off in the water
How Charles finally learned the value of Zone 1 and Zone 2 biking
What went right with fueling - and what almost went very wrong
Why the swim felt like “a paper clip” and still somehow became a highlight
How both guys are rethinking their half Iron Man strategy with less than a month to go
They also look ahead to the next stretch of training, including the Moonlight Ramble, a big brick workout, upcoming races, and what it would take to go from finishing a half Iron Man to eventually tackling a full. If you like honest race recaps, fat boy confessions, and two friends trying to get faster without falling apart, this one delivers.
Essential listening if you’re training for a triathlon, thinking about your first Iron Man, or just want to hear what happens when PRs meet poor sleep, bad lungs, and a lot of very specific race-day opinions
Counting calories, not killing yourself in the bike, and finally getting under 300 pounds - this episode is packed with the kind of real progress that makes triathlon training actually work. If you care about weight loss, Olympic tris, or surviving a 70.3 without blowing up, this one is for you.

After two and a half years, we finally took a break, and honestly, it felt great. Charles was soaking up the sun in Greece while I was just trying to keep it together back home! 🌊☀️
We get real about the craziness of life, birthday surprises, and how I managed to 3D print a medal holder while he was away. 🏆 Plus, the epic battle of the Pop-Tarts - can you guess which flavor is which? 🍓

cott officially joins the 40 Club, Charles records from his parents' house in Indiana, and TrainingPeaks continues to humble both of us as we prepare for the Springfield Olympic Triathlon.
This week's episode is a little different. Charles heads home to be with family after his mom is hospitalized, Scott celebrates his birthday with a 40-mile ride, and both of us are trying (and occasionally failing) to stay on track with training, nutrition, and our monthly burpee challenge.
We also preview the Springfield Olympic Triathlon, talk about pacing with TrainingPeaks, discuss upcoming races like the Market Mile, Moonlight Ramble, and Tour de Brat, and somehow end up talking about George R.R. Martin, Pop-Tarts, e-bikes, and sweaty cycling hats.
This is what balancing real life and endurance training actually looks like.

🏊 We Survived Day 2 of Ironman Training... Barely | Tour de Donut Recap, Weight Check & TrainingPeaks Reality Check
The Ironman 70.3 training officially begins... and it's already kicking our asses.
This week on 2 Guys 1 Scale, we kick things off with another weigh-in to see if Charles managed to stay under 300 pounds after finally breaking the barrier last week, while Scott continues working toward his goal of getting under 210 before Ironman 70.3.
Then it's time to recap one of the most ridiculous cycling events we've ever done—Tour de Donut. We rode nearly 40 miles through rain, hills, and Missouri back roads while eating glazed donuts to earn time bonuses. Scott ate 10 donuts, Charles ate 8, our buddy Jared had an unforgettable emergency stop in a cornfield, and somehow everyone survived.
We also dive into our first two days using a professionally built TrainingPeaks Ironman 70.3 plan, including:
This episode is equal parts cycling, triathlon training, weight loss, and complete chaos.
If you're on your own weight loss journey, training for your first triathlon, obsessed with cycling, or just enjoy listening to two idiots make questionable decisions in the name of fitness, this episode is for you.
