201: Transform PPE into positive change, with LifeCycle Revive

Listen Later

Today I'm really excited to be joined by LifeCycle Revive, Canada's first polypropylene PPE waste recycler, diverting from landfill by reclaiming non-contaminated medical waste from Ontario's hospitals and reprocessing it into raw materials to create all kinds of new products.

With a focus on healthcare, manufacturing and retail, LifeCycle Revive is dedicated to creating real environmental and economic change and transforming Canada's sustainability programs.

Today Andy Straisfeld, VP of Business Development at Lifecycle Revive, joins me to chat all about Lifecycle Revive, what they do, the importance of a circular economy, and the impact of COVID on the industry's sustainability plans.

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

[06.14] How and why LifeCycle Revive was founded.

"We're not here to make a profit off the environment – this is a sustainability project."

[08.26] A closer look at how the process works.

[12.56] How LifeCycle Revive works with its customers, to best suit their needs and work most efficiently towards their sustainability end goal.

[19.38] The impact of COVID on PPE use and the innovation and commitment to change that is emerging from the crisis.

"Our box can fit 1,500 masks and in a popular spot, like a mall, hospital or college, it could fill up within 2 days."

[25.51] The circular economy and why there's 'gold in garbage.'

"If we tackle the issues of that garbage, reclaim from the landfills, not only will we create an economic powerhouse, we'll give people green jobs and take care of our society."

[30.38] A closer look at LifeCycle Revive's ideal customer.

[31.44] A key customer case study, showing how LifeCycle Revive transformed one hospital's approach to their waste.

[35.03] Andy's reflections on what the next few years might bring when it comes to the industry's approach to waste and sustainability.

"It's all about the landfill – why do we send stuff there, do we actually need to? Recycling generates business, economy: it's the right thing to do."

[37.14] The future for LifeCycle Revive.

"We're so excited that we're part of the solution, not the problem."
