25. Part Two // Top 5 Golf Etiquette You HAVE TO KNOW When Playing a Tournament

Listen Later

PART TWO of the conversation with Tori, Kim, Tara and Pat as they continue their discussion on tournament must-knows in the wake of their time at the Desert Classic.

This time, they dive into their top five etiquette rules that every tournament player needs to keep in mind.

 Key Moments

?      (02:36) Show up if you made a commitment. That means all two or three days of the tournament! It even includes individual tournaments, no matter how poorly you’re performing because, as Kim reminds us, “You have to take the good with the bad.” By demonstrating that you have the integrity and gumption to stick with it no matter what, you’ll almost always be invited to play another tournament.

?      (06:56) Don’t step in someone else’s putting line. It’s almost always unintentional, but it will throw off a lot of players.

?      (08:49) Always ask whether to have the flag in or out on the first hole. A lot of players won’t care either way, but it’s always best practice to ask.

?      (10:10) Always ask whether players want to play ready golf or honors. Some players like to start with honors, others don’t. But when it comes to the putting green, always go with honors.

?      (14:35) Always ask before playing music. The rule of thumb here is, the more serious the tournament, the less appropriate it is to play music. In a similar vein, try not to be on your phone for too much of the game, as this will likewise distract the other players.

?      (18:25) Help others in the group look for lost balls. Aside from basic etiquette, making the effort to look for a lost ball helps with pace of play. Once the player gets to the location, they have three minutes to look for the ball until it’s considered lost.

?      (20:53) Fixing ball marks and filling sand divots. And don’t just fix and fill yours. Fix and fill two more.
