    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

Affascinante!

    TRANSLATION
Today I want to talk to you about a fascinating concept that I discovered through one of my podcasts that is currently among my favorites Digital Folklore. What is digital folklore? But first of all, what is folklore?

Folklore does not mean costumes and traditions of people dressed in the clothes of 100 200 years ago. Folklore is understood as oral history that is passed down from person to person, orally.
And that's where it ties in, that the concept of the 'Gutenberg parenthesis' was born, which I had never heard of. Back then, before the invention of printing, things were passed down orally, because only rich people and clergy people, who were often the same, knew how to read, knew how to write, then had the money to have the books that were handwritten by amanuenses.

Once printing was created by Gutenberg, it also democratised the concept of writing and reading. I am not saying that everyone owned books, however, they were certainly more within the reach of the general population. Not only that, but whereas before the invention of printing, stories were passed down orally, with the advent of printing there is really the supremacy of writing, that therefore the story was crystallised, it was as it was and no one could question it, because it was black on white, and then also gains much more importance, the figure of the sole author, who was the one from whom the story emanated.

Well, this lasted the whole period, from the invention of printing to the invention of the internet, because with the internet is this a really genius thing, seen from this point of view, you are back to what the oral situation was before the invention of printing. Now anyone can write on the internet, so there is a communication from many to many, and in fact this is how stories are born, urban legends are born, folklore is born, which is again, as before the invention of printing, passed from person to person with one big difference, that whereas before to make the rounds of not world, but not even a nation, a story took weeks, months if not years, now it is all much easier.

A story, a meme goes around the world in seconds, it comes out in the morning and by evening it has changed. And another difference is that if before, with oral history, you never knew the origin of the stories, now with the Internet, on the other hand, not only do you have the oral stories handed down, but you can also trace back exactly to the first time it was, a particular story was talked about. Fascinating!

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 516 Dal balcone

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION

Too nice of a setting that I put myself on the balcony to not recording my 3 minutes podcast today from the balcony of the house with all the noise in the background. Anyway, it's not that it's new the balcony is new the setup we did, because until now it was simply a space where we kept the rubbish bins and the clothesline for hanging laundry. Now, we have now done real styling.

We did research on the internet to find ideas for small balconies, because of course the balcony is quite small, it's about a meter and something by six meters long, a little more than six meters, and we found ideas, then with photographs of the ideas we went around to stores to find things we liked to put on the balcony.

And now we finally have a nice balcony equipped with a corner where I can sit comfortably with pillows, bought yesterday, small table where I can put my computer, sockets all over the place, the corner from where I'm recording is a little bit, let's say it has a Japanese vibe, in the sense that I've attached some clothes, there is some bamboo that cover the balcony railing, which is metal, so there's this very ... With bamboo which is very Japanese, then I also hung some Japanese things that I had bought in Japan quite a while ago.

For now a lot of artificial grass and artificial leaves, which however today the technology of artificial greens has really done wonders because they really look amazing, and not only, they are not even cheap, I must say, here they are not even cheap.

We will also set up with real plants shortly. My husband insists on putting geraniums on the balcony. I'm not crazy about geraniums because either they're those really nice German cottage geraniums that are always lush and so on, or they're always a little peeling, they always look like old flowers to me.

He is in charge of the plants, though, because among my many gifts and virtues certainly does not include a green thumb. Let's say I have a black thumb, a brown thumb, a gray thumb. Everything I touch. bung ! It dies. I've never been able to grow, I mean in my mind this idea of these beautiful plants all over the place, however, then in reality I can't get them to live long enough.

Instead, my husband is very good, he takes care of the plants, he knows what fertilizer to put, even the compost, you know, just the concept of compost! Yes, so I let him do this thing here.

Meanwhile I am here drinking my cup of coffee, Mazinga (the cat) is lying there, and I am starting the day with you. What better way to start a good day?

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 515 Soldi falsi

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION

We are distracted big time. Saying this is not me, but it is neuroscience. I was reading a very interesting article on counterfeit banknotes. Counterfeit banknotes are a big problem for all states around the world because we human beings are very careless. It doesn't matter how many checking functions, how many watermark threads, how many hidden things and holograms, all the security measures they put inside the banknotes, anyway, we are very distracted, and because no one goes around with the machine checking real and fake banknotes, there are a lot of these, these fake banknotes, in circulation.

But why are we so distracted? Because our brains are used to quickly scrolling through the things they need and ignoring everything else. If you have ever played that game where they show you two photographs that are slightly different from each other, you will know how difficult it is to find the things that are different, to find the details. Sometimes these details are also exaggeratedly large, however, only after very, very, very careful viewing do we realize where the difference is.

There are a lot of experiments that sound unbelievable if I tell you about them. I like the gorilla one very much. There is this video where there are people playing basketball and you ask the person watching the video, here, count how many times the person with the red shirt, yellow shirt, now I can't remember, goes to the basket and the person watching concentrates and counts the numbers of times. Then at the end of watching the video which is very short, 1 minute, 30 seconds I don't remember, you are asked did you see the gorilla? And people are flabbergasted, what gorilla? Then you watch the video and realize that at a certain point in the video a person disguised as a gorilla enters and crosses the entire visible space of the video.

I did this experiment myslef and I too was flabbergasted because I didn't know, of course , they didn't tell me because if you know you have to wait for the gorilla to come in you see it, but if no one tells you, boom! Incredible, Because when our brain is busy doing one thing, it ignores everything else.

There are so many more of these experiments. There is one where someone stops to ask a passerby for information, then is interrupted by two workers carrying a slab of something that obscures vision, and in the process the person asking for the information is exchanged for another person completely different, and the person who was giving the information does not realize that there has been an exchange of person.

In short, we are little beings a little bit, a little bit distracted and unless we tell ourselves with all the willpower, brain pay attention, brain pay attention, we hardly notice anything.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 514 Prossimamente più strutturata
    Oggi episodio de-strutturato.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng Tranalstion below]

E questi ultimi 10 secondi vabbè, ve li dedico mio amatissimo pubblico. Vi voglio bene eh dai, ci sentiamo domani in modo più strutturato.

    TRANSLATION

One of those days that I turn on the microphone and literally, I don't know what I'm going to talk about today.

Kind of strange day because I woke up at dawn to watch the last episode of a series that I am following, that I was following, with great interest. This morning, U.S. time, 3 a.m. In Italy, but I didn't get up at 3 a.m., I got up a little bit later, they aired the last episode and I didn't want someone to spoil it for me on social media saying how it was going to end.

So I absolutely isolated myself, woke up quite early and instead of getting into the things I usually do in the morning, so starting with my 3 minutes podcast, breakfast, email and so on, I got into watching the latest episode of this TV series.

Great satisfaction. The episode instead of lasting 50 minutes - 1 hour, lasted 1 1/2 hours, so let's say I slowed down considerably all the other things that came later. But then whatever, I got down to business, in a while I have to go and teach communication, no, team building, communication within groups, to a class of young women, young girls who are following their own path that is not always easy. So it's a pretty, shall we say, demanding class where I always have to come up with new ideas to keep participation up.

So the raw 3 minutes podcast I am recording them now in almost late morning, however, I won't be able to air them before, probably this afternoon. Whatever, you people don't care anyway because who knows when you will listen it. The great thing about the podcast is that you listen to it whenever you want.

So this is also a super self-referential episode, but this is what happens when you open the microphone and you have no idea what you are going to talk about. Once the microphone is on I see the hand, the line of the recording going on and I can't start a new topic because it's 30 seconds to the end of this 3-minute episode and in 30 seconds you really can't, you don't have time to start and finish a speech, so I'm going to let it drip out, just like when you wash a bottle and then you want to get all the water out you let it drip out drop by drop.

And these last 10 seconds whatever, I dedicate them to you my beloved audience. Love you people eh come on, talk to you tomorrow in a more structured way.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 513 Spritz allo zafferano

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation, further down]

    TRANSLATION
I like saffron very, very much and it took me a while to find a liqueur, a saffron-flavored alcohol because I wanted to make my own saffron spritz, a drink that I tasted some time ago in Venice, by the way in this beautiful situation where there was a little bit off the tourist track, there was this clearing that of course overlooked a canal, they had set up a kind of wooden barge and there were these guys there serving very basic cocktails, in the sense that the glasses were not the cool ones, in short it was very nice situation, then you could sit on the deckchairs , and there I had tried this saffron spritz which was very good.

Again, saffron is one of my favorite flavors. And that's when my, my search for saffron liqueur began. There are several around that say they have saffron as an ingredient, however then you go and look and actually there is saffron, however there is also anise. Anise is one of the flavors that I dislike, not only that, but when it exists together with saffron it completely covers the taste of saffron.
There are a couple of old liquors from when I was a child that I remember were saffron. We have tried several, however, always with disappointing results and even a little... I mean, once I buy a bottle of liquor then it's not like you taste it, you say I don't like it, you throw it away, then you have to absorb it somehow. I am not a person who drinks alcohol, so they last for years.

Here, a few days ago at the supermarket we again got caught up in the enthusiasm of my passions and tried a new liquor , which is not new, but it is very old. It is the Strega Liquor that I remember very well the advertisement where there was Sylva Koscina, charming , disturbing and I remember the slogan "The first sip fascinates . The second Strega." Beautiful advertising gimmick, beautiful slogan, kudos to the creatives , and we found, I think, the magic potion because the Strega Liquor, a little bit of liquor, a little bit of sparkling wine or prosecco , and then soda and it's delicious.

Ice cubes, by the way we are also setting up our little balcony with armchairs and such spectacular things , and I assure you it feels like being on the canal in Venice sipping saffron spritz. I have to add now I don't know if a sprig of mint or a little bit of lemon or lemon zest, I don't know, some icing on the cake is missing, however let's say 95 percent or my cocktail of the summer.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

Vabbè, non è che io in canoa ci sappia andare benissimo, so reggermi, so fare i movimenti, so fare le manovre, so fare marcia indietro, avanti, insomma, me la cavo.

    TRANSLATION

I think I've already told you that for some time now I've been doing canoeing, which is a beautiful sport because just like running and biking, it makes me do the things I like by myself, in the midst of nature. Oh, I forgot, also cross-country skiing.

Well, yesterday I wanted to experience the thrill of novelty once again. Oh well, it's not that I can go very well in a canoe, I can hold on, I can do the movements, I can do the maneuvers, I can back up, forward, in short, I can manage. I don't fall into the water.

Yesterday I wanted to try rowing [in Italian canottaggio / canoa are similar words]. Before I started canoeing, I thought canoeing and rowing were the same thing, they were a different way of saying the same, one a longer and one shorter word. Instead, they are two very different things.

Canoe is the Indian-type one that you get in, have one paddle, and you go paddling. Rowing is the one as in the races between Oxford and Cambridge, that you have two oars that move independently of each other, you're inside this very tapered little boat, very very very long very very thin, and keep in mind that the thinner the boat, the harder it is to balance without falling off. And then, the basic thing is that you row backwards, so you give your back to the direction where you are going, whereas with the canoe you do, you know, like the Indians, you go inside and you paddle along by yourself.

Well, yesterday I wanted to try, I had always seen them there where I go canoeing, and I got curious, come on, I want to try and see a little bit what it's like, by now I can hold myself well on the canoe it won't be that much harder. She said.

It's a whole different thing. And yesterday I really felt the thrill of doing something that you absolutely don't know how to do, which is scary because you are constantly afraid of falling. Which then, let's face it, the worst thing that can happen is that you fall into the water, okay, you come out, it's not like it's who knows what, it's not like you're falling into the lava, it's not like there are piranhas in the channel where I canoe, there are nutrias, these ... and yesterday there were really a lot of them, there are mullets, a few seagulls, I mean it's not the worst thing, but there's always this primal fear of falling.

And to make things even more interesting, the instructor Eric, said but why don't you do with Gianfranco? My husband, also does canoeing. And Eric put us in this... this thing this rowing thing for two, me in the front and Gianfranco in the back, and it was really an experience ... we spent almost 1 and a half, 2 hours thrilling, thrilling! If you want to stretch time, time goes by too fast for you, do something you don't know how to do, that you are afraid to do, and you will stretch time .

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

This morning we made coffee with a new espresso machine. Eh, that's no small thing. Those who always use coffee and are fond of an espresso machine that they have been using for a very long time know what it means to buy a new espresso machine, the brand new ones, all shiny, not giving the impression of being espresso machine that have already been inside a house, inside a family for years and years.

We have this espresso machine for three cups, and then an espresso machine for one, we used to always use the espresso machine for three, but during the day then I was forced to prepare it again several times because I drink quite a bit of coffee.

I know that maybe I should cut down on coffee consumption, however until then I had this genius idea why don't we buy a bigger espresso machine so we make it in the morning and then as we go throughout the day I do, I take the leftover coffee, I don't drink espresso hardly ever, I mix it with water I make myself a coffee, what is called American coffee in a big cup and then I sip it throughout the day.

Anywaay, the problem with new espresso machine is that they are not lived in. An espresso machine to be, to make good coffee has to be used a lot, and then you should not wash it with detergents. So the way I usually prepare new espresso machines, it doesn't happen to me very often, but when it happens, this is what I do.

First, I leave the new espresso machine to steep for a while by putting the used coffee powder, from a coffee I made before, inside the filter and then in the part where the coffee is usually that you drink, I also put some old coffee that is left over.

I leave it like this for a couple of days without touching it, no, it does not get mouldy, so that it soaks in well well well. Then I make coffee a couple of times, but I don't use good coffee, which costs a shitload of money, I used old coffee instead, so already used coffee powder, just to oil the gears of the espresso machine, so I make a couple of times, two three times a fake coffee which then of course is not used.

And this morning, after all these steps, it's already several weeks that we bought the new espresso machine, for the first time we made coffee 'to drink' in this bigger espresso machine and I have to say that it's not, it's not bad, in short we didn't have a motion of disgust, but what kind of crap is this? No, we drank the coffee and it was not bad at all.

So today officially ushers in the season of the new coffee maker that I am sure will make us many good coffees and especially brighten my days that can now save the time of making a new coffee maker.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION

In English there is a way of saying 'to be like a bull inside a china store' which in Italian the counterpart might be, to be like an elephant inside a glass house. These are images that bring to mind a big, bulky, clumsy thing unable to move without dropping everything on the ground, without ruining everything, without breaking everything.

As for the elephant, I don't know, because I have never seen an elephant inside a glass house. Eh, whatever, I didn't even see a bull inside a porcelain store, however, I saw another thing that is interesting and I want to share it with you, I will also then put the link of what I am going to tell you in the program notes.

I saw a bull running through boh, about 20 people standing still, and this bull not only did not charge people but even dodged them.

This is an experiment that a teacher in Mexico wanted to put in place who wanted to explain to his students that bulls are not aggressive so naturally, but that they become aggressive, especially in a setting like bullfighting, because they sting them, they hurt them, and that's why bulls react this way.
So there is this video very... makes a little bit of, it's a bit scary, in it you see these dozens of people spread out in this big field, I don't know if a soccer field, something anyway a little bit and outdoors, and then you see this bull running through them and even bending to one side to dodge them and not to touch them.

These really commendable students, I never had such students and I don't even know if I could ask such a thing from students. I was afraid for them, I even empathized a little bit, I thought mamma mia, what would I have done? Standing there, motionless.

And there is also a text accompanying the video and the teacher said 'Don't move, stay still.' All right, you do well to say stand still when there is a bull dancing around you.

However, successful experiment. I don't recommend repeating the experiment because I don't know what the conditions were under which this teacher proposed it, however, it is certainly a way to get students to be quiet and still in the classroom, just unleash a bull and say be still it won't do anything to you, see how everyone suddenly shuts up and becomes salt statues. No, joking aside, it's an interesting video, I'll put the link, take a look at it and think about it the next time you think about bullfighting.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 509 Gatti orologio

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION

I once saw a video of a cat moving around in a room, that is, it wasn't moving around in a room, it was a video that had been taken over the course of a day, from above, in front of a window and you could see how as the sunshine coming through the window moved across the floor of the room, the cat moved as well. Basically the cat was acting as a sundial, looking at the cat you could see what time of day it was.

This occurred to me while observing my two cats as they move throughout the day. I woke up this morning and had Mazinga stuck to my left side and Sputnik to my right side. It was before seven o'clock in the morning, so they had already eaten, because my husband gets up at dawn for various reasons, including feeding the cats, so they were full and they were snoozing clinging to me because that way they don't miss any of my movements and as soon as I get up, start my day, go to the kitchen, have breakfast, they get up, without ever giving me a look, and follow me into the kitchen.

And there in the kitchen usually, yes, I place the computer on the table and have breakfast reading emails, looking at what happened during the night, and they get behind my computer screen, so I don't see them, every now and then they stretch, however as soon as I make the slightest movement, like I get up to get another cup of coffee, they immediately poke their heads up to make sure I'm not moving from the room.

When I then move, I go to the bathroom, they naturally follow me, they are very attentive to my personal hygiene and all the things I do inside the bathroom, they never want to miss anything, and then when I go to take a shower also, and especially Sputnik who seems not to be afraid of water and splashing at all, she stands right in front of the shower and waits for me to finish, making sure I shower well.

You know, cats are fanatical about cleanliness and would never want to have a mistress who was not equally attentive to personal hygiene.

Then they often disappear, in the sense that I literally don't know where they go, and those who have cats will have experienced calling them, calling them desperately thinking but where will they be? I live in an apartment, so the only way they can get out of the house is by jumping downstairs from the fourth floor, and then quiet and peaceful, they come out when it suits them. I mean, I have two sundial cats.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION
To learn how to take pictures, I'm not saying it's easy, however there are a lot of free online courses, a lot of tips, then today you don't even need to buy a camera anymore, because all cell phones have a camera that allows you to take much better pictures than I did with my old cameras, or anyway you can do a lot of tricks, a lot of things.

So if a person wanted to get into photography, let's say it wouldn't be terribly difficult to do something decent, I'm not saying then to do photography exhibitions right away, however, something that a person doesn't necessarily have to be ashamed of.

The issue, however, is different with regard to being photographed, because while it is relatively easy to take pictures of others, it is not so easy to be photographed. And also on this regard you can find something on the Internet, where they explain put your chin like this, do like this, do like that. But let's say that, aside from the fact that when someone takes your picture it's not like you remember to pose like that, it doesn't come naturally to you, and then anyway the results are always incredibly disappointing.

This thought occurred to me while I was watching a little video on Facebook where there is this actress, I don't even remember what this actress's name is, however a beautiful young woman with a wonderful dress, red, dramatic, very long, with a crazy slit, and you can see her coming on the red carpet, the red carpet, probably in Cannes, I don't know, anyway a recent thing, but the interesting thing is how she moves.

She arrives and immediately, as they say, 'throws shapes' she poses and as if she is jerking around. Move after move, she turns, goes like this, opens the dress to show the thigh, the whole very long leg, the shoe.

But the movements are not smooth, are precisely jerky, and she also takes certain attitudes with her face, she makes all the grimaces, not grimaces, however she poses. And yet her posing is not a fluid passing, a moving, turning, but actually an almost syncopated thing.

I guess this is the way to come good in photos, regardless of the angle at which the photo is taken. I don't know, it's fascinating, I mean seeing this woman moving so syncopated, certainly fascinating. And then the pictures come out well, come on.
