  • 3' grezzi Ep. 248 Bordo piscina
Stando a bordo piscina si possono immaginare tante vite diverse, dagli eccessi della ricchezza esagerata a quelli di chi invece sta perdendo ogni libertà.

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
I say something obvious, that is that the comforts of life make life more peaceful and happy, and starting the morning well, prepares you to feel well for the rest of the day. I don't know if you can hear it, because I am recording from mobile phone - you will have realised the sound in the last few days is not the best, anyway in the background there is the noise of the swimming pool, this slight luxuriance of the water that goes back and forth inside this very nice pool, very large. As I have already mentioned, I am in a tourist village, deserted, so it is as if I were here alone, if I had it all to myself, and among the various benefits of this place there is a swimming pool, I am starting my mornings doing laps, which is something that I miss a lot because in Cagliari there is no pool where you can simply go for laps, you can access the pool but you have to sign up for a swimming course, so there is no free access to the pools simply to do laps. Well, I started with this obvious consideration because when I find myself having luxuries that I usually don't have, I realise how much I'd love to have these luxuries at home too, or rather I realise how they really change the rest of your day. And then sometimes I also think, who knows what it would be like to live as an ultra-rich and you have a lot of people who clean your house, cook for you, undertake all those unpleasant tasks like going to offices... who knows what it would be like to be Madonna, not the madonna in heaven but the singer who has, I think I read it somewhere, that in addition to all the service staff she also has, inside the house, a hairdresser, a manicurist, a beautician, so while I just take a shower, Madonna calls her hairdresser instead and says, I have to wash my hair, do the styling. Who knows what it's like to live like this. They are worlds completely unknown to us, or rather to the most, completely unknown, and they are fascinating, fascinating exactly as thinking what life could be like on another planet or what life could be like... yes if you were born in a completely different situation, and sometimes these comparisons also take on dark aspects. Because from wondering what it would be to live as Madonna lives, to think what would it be like to live like one of the many women in Afghanistan today, the step is short, and it is terrifying and frightening.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 247 Destagionalizzare!
Vaglielo a spiegare...

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
I'm going to the bar to buy croissants for breakfast. As you will have understood from the latest episodes of my 'three uncut' podcast, we are on vacation, in the north of Sardinia. We are in a tourist village, a tourist village that seems abandoned because there are very few people, because here in Sardinia, for as long as I can remember, they keep on repeating that we should deseasonal... sorry I got up, so long words don't come too easy... long polysyllabic words are not easy at this time of the day. We should deseasonalise tourism, but they keep on ignoring this, because we are just at the beginning of the month - today I don't remember if it's the 5th or 6th of September - and this place is basically ... there is only us. I don't mind at all because I don't like crowds, I don't like having tourists around, in fact I am also always looking for the most isolated beaches, the less visited, but let's say that it can become a problem when a person wants to buy basic necessities, if you want to visit a museum, in short it's all closed. The other day we did some crazy running around because we love the wordcross puzzles magazine 'La Settimana Enigmistica' and I wanted to buy a copy of 'La Settimana Enigmistica'. Well, in the town of Palau, which is the one closest to where we are, there are no newsstands, they don't have newsstands, there is a small resale of newspapers at the maritime station but they didn't have 'La Settimana Enigmistica'. We have searched far and wide and then we looked at each other: but how can it be that a village, and I mean, it is not such a tiny one... now, I don't know how many inhabitants it has, but it is a small town ... in short, there are no newsstands! And I wonder, but don't people buy newspaper? They don't. Don't children buy stickers to collect in the album? I mean, all the things that you can usually buy at the newsstands. But, nope, in Palau there are no newsstands. I actually saw one to tell the truth, but it was a window shop with a 'newsstand' written on top: it was completely empty inside, and it had a sign reading 'for rent', so obviously that newsstand had finished its role and now they put it on sale. I don't know if everything can be ascribed to the two years of epidemic that we are carrying around, and that we are very bad at dealing with, from all points of view. Because in two years, I mean, you can also somehow adapt, find other solutions. Anyway, as I already told you, I'm going to the bar that is the only place still open, although it closes very soon and opens up a little too late, I'm going to take croissants to have breakfast. Oh well, this is open, at least.

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English below)
Fantastico. Mi son finiti i secondi devo chiudere.

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
A concert at sunset in front of the Giants' Grave at Coddu Vecchju, played by Eloisa Manera (violin, voice, electronic) and Daniela Savoldi (cello, voice and also the electronic effects). Said like that, you may think, so what? But if you were there, at sunset, in front of the Nuragic tomb known as Giants' Graves, actually the one which is best maintained in all of Sardinia, with an entrance stone slab over four meters high, and knowing that you are in front of a structure that was built more than four thousand years ago, it has a certain effect, at the back there was this wonderful well-kept vineyard, 'combed', and then of course the fantastic, scenographic, cinematographic music of Eloisa Manera and Daniela Savoldi, whom I did not know but that I intend to search and follow as soon as possible, because their music was truly engaging. They were there in front of an audience of about fifty people, barefoot with their wonderful instruments connected to all the other electronic instruments and they sang and performed and presented their productions. This is the magic of the festival that we bumped into, this Festival in Palau, between Arzachena, La Maddalena and Luogosanto, which are localities in the north of Sardinia, it is called Le Isole che Parlano Festival [festival of talking islands], an important festival because it is cross-border, between two borders, between the north of Sardinia and Corsica. Unfortunately we will be back in Cagliari, in the south of Sardinia, so we miss a couple of amazing shows, in one of the events they take people by boat to a small island, you listen to the concert and then you come back. Very nice sensations, very polite audience which is something I appreciate, because usually when there are free shows, sometimes the audience doesn't appreciate it because they think, it's free so I can make noise, I can talk to the people who are next to me. Instead today at sunset, total, absolute silence, you could barely hear a few flies buzzing, it was a beauty bath. Fantastic. I have run out of seconds I have to close.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 245 Usato IKEA

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)
Chiaro, no?

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Ikea has always been one of my favourite companies, even before Internet, I liked to go to Ikea and look around, I always came home with a lot of things I didn't need. But they have this beautiful setting, then you have the Ikea catalogue, when it arrived, once a year, it was like, it was a kind of ritual, leafing through the Ikea catalogue and marking on the page the things I would have liked to buy, then I went there and things are never as beautiful as the images, however, it is a fantastic company that manages to offer products at affordable prices but always of great design, with great solutions not only in style but also in practicality. A few months ago, I talked about Ikea because it launched a series of podcasts, but not podcasts where it tells the story of the company, no podcast where they tell the catalogue, fantastic podcasts, where page by page they explain the catalogue. I have listened to a couple of them then oh well, there are twenty thousand things that I listen to even for work, so I can't listen to everything, indeed now that I have remembered I am going back to listen to a few pages of the Ikea catalogue. Now I talk about Ikea again because I read that it has launched an Ikea furniture buyback program, not everywhere, for the moment it is only in a few locations in the United States, but people can describe the Ikea furniture that they want to resell, then they bring the items in, they receive an evaluation and get a voucher to buy other products in the store and this second hand furniture sold by the people who had previously bought them, are made available to other people who want to buy furniture, but maybe they want to pay less and don't really care that the piece of furniture has already been used by someone else, and if the piece of furniture cannot be bought second-hand because it is too damaged, Ikea offers to dispose it in a sustainable way, because by the end of this decade Ikea wants to be able to achieve a completely circular economy without waste. You see, if more companies followed Ikea's example, if we were already starting to sell toothpaste without the cardboard around or if we eliminated all those cartons all those 20 thousand packs, extra packs and plastic things that they feed us to supermarkets, this would already be a great step forward against waste. Above all, recycling is not enough, we need to reduce because as long as there is a recycling industry, no one will have a reason to have less garbage because garbage is their business. Clear, right?

    TESTO TRASCRITTO [English below]
Oggi voglio parlare di 'Cities and memory', città e memorie.

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Today I want to talk about 'Cities and memory'. It is a mammoth project by Stuart Fowkes who is a UK based sound artist, in Oxford. I never met Stuart in person, but we often exchange messages and emails, and he is an incredible person, because in addition of having a full-time job, he also takes care of this project which is indeed a gigantic project, in which he collects sounds from around the world, from all over the world, to compile a map, and to give everyone the opportunity to listen to these sounds. But what I am saying is very reductive because it is truly a gigantic project that proposes to tell the world, one sound at a time, sounds that are sent by people who live around the world, and then people who live around the world are invited to remix these sounds to create something different. It currently has over 5,000 sounds from over 100 locations around the world. I have participated in some of his projects, some of the special projects he creates in collaboration with other artists. One of these was the recreation of Hell on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, and over 80 artists from all over the world have chosen one of the circles of Hell and have narrated that circle, some with music, some with sounds some, like myself, with a story. Another of the games, of the projects in which I participated is the Orange Garden, the orange grove, in which Stuart put online a recording of live sounds, recorded in this garden in Rome, and then invited several sound artists to manipulate, re-imagine and modify this original sound, and to come up with something different. Often the people who participate are musicians. I always participate as a narrator, so even in this case I took that sound and imagined the story behind. Yes, the work that Stuart does is commendable, enviable, and in fact I have told him, you must be insane, where do you find the time to do all these things? Because he requires a considerable organizational effort, but I am very happy that he does and I can't wait to participate in the next sound mix. I chose the sound of Piazza San Marco in Venice.

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, promises us to create a universe just for us, a universe that is not what we know in the real world where we can touch things, instead, it is a universe that we have already begun to catch a glimpse of with the long live broadcasts on Facebook and various other methods we use to communicate with others in real time. The world that Zuckerberg promises us is called metaverse, so it is a somewhat meta universe that is there and it isn't, it is a place where all of us, human beings (and I think also animals) will have a virtual representation, inside the computer or inside the mobile phone or whatever means we use to interconnect with others when we are not connecting in real time, so we will have a virtual representation, we will have an avatar, and this avatar will be able to communicate with all avatars that are there, of other people of other things, of other objects, and we can also almost draw a virtual environment around us, and as tiny holograms, we will move and do things, like going to the office without having to go to the office, interacting with others, everything will be in virtual reality so we will move in our homes, in our real offices with these helmets on our heads, and through the viewer we will see the screen of the world of the metaverse. Yes, I too am shaking my head and thinking, oh well maybe it'll take some more time before everyone inhabits this metaverse, some time will pass, but on the other hand, however, I am also a bit terrified because one of the 'disclaimers' one of the caveats of this metaverse is that Zuckerberg has already covered his back saying "Don't worry! Nothing of what you say during your personal interviews will be used by Facebook to sell you products, it will not be used to profile you etc." and it worries me a little that it will be inevitable instead that they will use everything we say, it will backfire on us. So, there you go, I start this morning with these thoughts a bit like in a dystopian, anti-utopian world, this world where we can no longer touch each other in real life, where with the excuse of the virus we will no longer go out and we won't do anything, we will live in our little cells, at that point... the fourth episode of The Matrix is about to be released and it wasn't really... the world of The Matrix doesn't seem so far away anymore. Oh well, I promise that tomorrow I'll be less pessimistic.

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English below)

You realise that you are on vacation when you find yourself recording your three uncut minutes in the square of a tourist village. It's lunchtime, it's shortly after lunchtime so there's nobody around, I'm practically alone. Everything is closed. This reminds me of the times when having internet, wherever you went, wasn't that common, and when travelling, the first thing you did was usually go find an internet cafe. I remember the trips I made when I was in Australia, when Internet was already widespread but it wasn't everywhere, and it was still a bit slow and I remember how, even when you arrived in remote places, 'forgotten by god and by the devil', I remember in Coober Pedy which is this mining center where many houses are built underground because there are very high temperatures and therefore, to protect themselves from prohibitive temperatures, they dig. I remember visiting a church, a bookshop, etc. underground. And I remember that there were several Internet points there, as they were called then 'Internet cafes' which were these stations that you entered and there was row after row of computers, and also there, as they say in English, 'in the middle of nowhere', in these very isolated places, even there, there was always an Internet café to go to and often they were, almost always they were frequented by travellers who sent emails, at the time there were no video connections like the ones we know now, so more than anything else it was to send emails and send greetings and receive them, or even communicate through some chat applications that I don't even remember their names anymore and that now don't even exist anymore. Here now I am here in the north of Sardinia, you can hear the wind blowing, in fact it is a part of Sardinia where stones and rocks have crazy shapes, precisely because they are smoothed by the wind. I detached myself from the rest of the family because here in the square there is Internet, Internet you can rely on because even that of the mobile is not that reliable. And, yes, I feel like I've gone back several decades, and that's not entirely bad because it also means that I can truly devote myself to writing and reading, without distractions from Internet and various social media, so yes, I enjoy this holiday with a little detachment from my usual levels of total Internet consumption, otherwise always on, from morning to night.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 241 Pizzette
Ma delle pizzette cagliaritane, ne vogliamo parlare?

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
There are people who spread an air of joy when you are around them, I don't know how to explain it. And this is the case of my homonymous friend Cristina Marras, I told you about her in one of my previous podcasts a few months ago. She just came to see me and brought me a tray of mini pizzas Cagliari style. If you are not from Cagliari I doubt you know them because, as far as I know, they tell me it is difficult to find them in other centers of Sardinia as well. What are these mini pizzas? They are really a Cagliaritan quirk, they are round puff pizzas, made of puff pastry with a little tomato inside, I think there is also a little anchovy, I don't know if there is also a little cheese, anyway they are the typical meal when you feel like eating something but you don't want to commit to something substantial. Usually, they accompany the aperitif in the morning, so around 11am. I am very fond of these mini pizzas and I remember that when I lived abroad, it was one of the things that made me remember, here you are Cristina, now you are at home. I tried to make them several times at home, buying the puff pastry that you can find in supermarkets, and let's say that they come out decent, but of course it has nothing to do with the original Cagliaritan delicacy. I tried to do some quick research on the internet and I found only recipes on how to prepare them at home, but I have not found the origins of this goodness, indeed if someone is listening, and I am talking to my Cagliaritan friends, if anyone knows about the origins of the Cagliaritan pizza and if you can confirm that they are actually only in Cagliari, let me know, contact me because now that I think about it I am actually interested. I must say that recently another type of pizzetta has appeared that is passed off as Cagliaritan pizza deluxe, and I don't like it at all. It has a square shape, or rather rectangular, and is much heavier and is just like a normal pizza despite using pastry, I don't like that at all and every time I go to a bar and they offer it instead of my traditional pastry pizza I say, no thanks give me the traditional one. I am now at that point of my 3 uncut minutes when I am at 2'45", so I can't introduce a new topic and I have to try to consume the last seconds by saying some sensible things. Oh well my listeners will forgive me if these 3 uncut minutes are a little, actually, very uncut. Here, I arrived at exactly 3 minutes.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 240 Iceberg, zombie e ultra sottili
Il libro "Icebergs, Zombies and the Ultra Thin: Architecture and Capitalism in the Twenty-First Century" scritto da Matthew Soules ci spiega come funziona e quali sono le conseguenze.

L'articolo della preziosa We Make Money Not Art che mi ha fatto scoprire questo interessante libro https://we-make-money-not-art.com/icebergs-zombies-and-the-ultra-thin-architecture-and-capitalism-in-the-twenty-first-century/

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (ENGLISH BELOW)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Today I want to talk to you about an architecture book that I like a lot just for the title alone: Icebergs, Zombies and the Ultra thin, with a subtitle that reads 'architecture and capitalism in the twenty-first century. '. It is a book by Matthew Soules and talks about the way in which, starting from the 1980s, buildings have increasingly become a tool for accumulating wealth, therefore an investment, and therefore less and less respond to the housing needs of people who live in that area. Among the many different models identified that reflect this new attitude, the three of the title are quite interesting, let's start with the icebergs. What are icebergs? These are buildings that to overcome the limitations of the various regulatory plans of cities like London, people who have a lot of money buy a piece of land and then build a small house on it, a small apartment and then the rest takes place underground, just as the icebergs. There are real houses of extreme luxury, this type of construction is called the 'luxified troglodytism'. And what is the problem? The problem is that these are built, and once you dig and dig for a lot of space deep and wide underground, you can well understand what happens, that the surrounding houses become less and less solid, so they provoke collapses of the building around. The other phenomenon of the title is that of ultra-thin, and this is self-explanatory: they are very high towers where the property is well hidden, so it is also very difficult to know who they belong to and they have the characteristic of almost always being vacant, because they are not really built for people to live there, but simply, I repeat, as an investment, and that of these ultra-thin towers brings about another phenomenon which is that of zombism, that is, these very tall and gigantic buildings that are almost always empty, precisely because nobody gives a damn that they are built so that people can go to live there, so what does that lead to? It leads to entire empty, uninhabited urban areas, and this has a very strong impact on both the urban fabric and the type of services that are offered in the area as well as livability. I'm pretty sure that if you look around you, in any big city, you too can spot zombified areas.

  • 3' Grezzi Ep. 239 Mazi sta meglio

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (ENGLISH BELOW)
Speaker1: Ho trascorso la mattina dal veterinario. Mazinga stava male.

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
I spent the morning at the vet. Mazinga was ill. All weekend she was lethargy and she practically didn't eat, so very early this morning, I slept badly last night thinking about Mazinga who was sick, and this morning I put her in the carrier and took her to the vet. Or rather, I got up and went downstairs to a box we have in the courtyard of the building where we keep the stuff we don't use every day, including the carrier. I tried to open the box with the key but I couldn't, so I called my son who was still in bed because it was very early, I threw him out of bed: Mazinga is sick, I need the carrier and cannot open the door downstairs. In the end we were able to open the door and we put Mazinga in the carrier and went to the vet. It was still closed because it was very early, so I let my son with Mazinga out in front of the door and then I went around looking for parking. After about ten, fifteen minutes I was back, I had parked a little far away, I arrived and they had opened the clinic. Inside the vet's office there is always this air ... it is as if everyone went with their children, as if we were at the pediatrician: you look at these very sweet and dear little creatures. Before me there was a lady who had a dachshund in the carrier, the dog seemed in excellent health. When the vet came out she mentions that she has a dachshund farm. She talked about the animals not calling them by name and you could tell that she was a person who sold them. Don’t get me wrong, nothing to say against those who sell animals, however, made a bit of an impression. Anyway, Mazinga is much better: she had 42 fever! I got really scared, the vet told me, no, no, it's not our 42 because a cat's base temperature is 39, so it's like a human being had a temperature of 39, high but not terribly high. The vet immediately gave her a shot that brought her fever down and then she analysed the blood work and everything was fine, and she gave me an antibiotic paste to give Mazinga for the next seven days, like I didn't have enough to prepare for the the holidays in a few days, but when an animal is sick, it seems banal to say, but it is as if a child is sick, you can not think of anything else.
