  • 3' grezzi Ep. 218 Rinchiusi in Australia
Coraggio amici, coraggio.

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
When you have lived more than half of your life abroad, far away, even when you come back you always feel a bit expat, as we call ourselves, and for this reason I continue to visit expats’ pages, both Italian expats in Australia and of those foreigners in Cagliari, in the city where I live now, and yesterday scrolling through the pages I read through the posts of Italian expats in Australia and I got a strong-strong squeeze in my heart because with the situation because of CODIV, people in Australia cannot get out, if you are in Australia you cannot leave Australia, you can leave only for very specific compassionate reasons, very difficult to prove, and once you leave, you cannot reenter. This applies to both permanent residents and Australian citizens. These are the government rules to counter the new wave of COVID, even if reading the numbers, in Melbourne they have decreed the lockdown after, I think just eight cases, which is much, much, much fewer than those that are being counted by us where everything is still open, but this is not what I want to talk about. This has deeply shocked me, I immediately identified with them, I thought of my friends who live there, my Italian friends, and I also have Australian friends here in Cagliari who cannot go home, they have their family in Australia and they can't go back because they know that first of all it would be very, very, very, very difficult to get in, and anyway they couldn't get out anymore. I tried to imagine it, to feel what would it feel like if I were still living there, if I was still in Australia. Among the messages, there were many who complained, one struck me saying, ah, I have been here since the 90s, had I killed someone I would have served the sentence by now, I could have leave, or others who said ah yes it is true that here you earn more, but cost of living is so much higher. In short, the usual stuff that I know very well because having lived there, I was often surrounded by them. It is a sad image, a depressed image, it is a very sad image because it is one thing to be isolated in Europe, where, however, you are inside a nation, a continent very diverse, if you are isolated in Australia, Australia is a very isolated place, even when there are connections, I think that in Australia you suffer more, definitely you suffer more if your whole family is somewhere else. Resist! Be brave!

Boh!

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
I picked up a flyer advertising summer events in the city of Quartu 'Estate a Quartu'. Quartu is the third largest city in Sardinia, after Cagliari and Sassari, and is practically contiguous to Cagliari, almost without interruption: Cagliari ends and Quartu begins. It's a flyer very... it looks expensive because the paper is very thick, so much so that I thought it was one of those flyers that open like a book, but no, it's just like that, it’s light cardboard: "Summer in Quartu - La Luna Sotto Casa - concerts, films, shows and surprises - July | August | September 2021 ". How nice, I say, movies, concerts, shows, surprises. I try to open the flyer, because it is very thick, so I think it is one that opens with the dates, the names of those who do what, what films they do, what concerts etc., and instead it does not open. OK, at the back of the flyer they put the sponsors: Municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena, Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Foundation of Sardinia, Association of local bodies for cultural and entertainment activities, Teatro Musica, another that is written in green on blue in small and that I am unable to read. Then there is the Facebook hashtag #estateaquartu and that's it. There is no indication, no phone number, no email address, no site address. Also, because this hashtag #estateaquartu, as I said, Quartu is Sardinia third city, I imagine that they will do a little more than just this festival. This thing here makes me very angry because the sponsors I have read are the wealthiest ones, so when the Sardinia Region, the Foundation of Sardinia are involved, there is money going around, someone here has taken some money to organise a summer festival, but it seems to me that these do not care at all about people attending because, as I said, there is neither a name, nor a telephone number, nor a QRcode. Nothing. Those who want to know what happens must go to Facebook with this hashtag where there will be listed all the things that I imagine will be done in the third city of Sardinia during summer. And I always think: but how can it be possible that the people who got together to make this flyer, no one had the thought, oh, let's put a date, let's put a title, let's put some contact details where people can go. And then at the same time I get angry because I think of all the friends who do very nice things and who, however, always have to finance everything themselves or really rely on the tickets sold. Here, here I have the impression that these here do not give a damn nor to sell tickets or even to have people actually attending, because I assure you, getting here will be a treasure hunt. This makes me very angry.

    TRASCRIZIONE TESTO (English translation below)
Pazzesco. Ho anche registrato qualcosa!

These 3 uncut minutes are a kind of live as it happens, in the sense that I don't bother looking for topics to talk about, I don't prepare the podcast, I don't try to diversify the topics I'm talking about, so you get it just as they happen to me in life. Therefore, in the past few days I talked about my friend, about swimming in the sea and I keep on talking about the things I do. So, early this morning we drove my friend Michaela to the airport to fly back to Berlin, it was about a quarter past 7 and we decided to go to the beach, but we didn't go to the usual Poetto beach, which is the city beach, we went to the old city beach called Giorgino, which once, before the construction of the industrial harbour, had been for about a hundred years the beach where the Cagliari’s upper class used to go, there were the famous Carboni Baths. I used to go there as a child, I told you about this beach in one of my past 3 uncut minutes talking about the Giorgino's travel guide, the one for which I created the podcasts, the Nonturismo guide. Well, today we went back, and there is a peculiar crowd there, because only people of a certain age who live there around and who have been going there forever, to that beach. While I was there, I observed the dynamics a bit, so there are elderly couples, we have significantly decreased the average age of the people who were there because they were all over seventy, yes, they come with these bags and loads of all good things because they stay there all day. Then there are all the all the skits, they always come with a few chairs, cool bags, beach umbrellas, and the man dedicates himself to concreting the umbrella which is a real overbuilding. In front of us was this gentleman who started digging a hole, his wife took out the toolbox, took out the hammer and some other wooden things that he put in the middle, so: hole, umbrella pole, flints, hammer blows, pieces of wood to wedge in... Something truly unbelievable that lasted a long time and then the umbrella, gigantic umbrella, really looked like one of those bar umbrellas, then it got ballasted, always with metal elements planted in the sand, everywhere, so it's crazy. Then they sat quietly, he reading the newspaper and smoking a cigarette, the lady there chatting with the other ladies and telling how her husband does nothing at home, but after all he is retired, he has worked all his life, and the other lady, but don’t you also work at home? Yes, but I have to, it's not like ... but you do work, you don’t do it for fun! Ah, no, but my poor husband has worked all his life ... Crazy. I also recorded there for a bit!

    TRASCRIZIONE TESTO (ENGLISH TRANSLATION below)
Poi siamo tornati a casa, stanchissime.

Yesterday I took a swim in the sea at night. I don't remember when it was the last time I did it, it's a beautiful experience. When I was younger, I used to do it much more often, now it's a bit harder to find people to share the adventure with. These days my friend from Berlin is visiting, I have already told you about it several times, Michaela, we had not seen each other for more than twenty years. These days we are spending together are fantastic also because I finally have the chance to say "Do you remember Michaela?" about things she had forgotten, and she reminds me of things we did together that I no longer thought about. Yesterday I took Michaela to do one of my favorite routes and that I always share with my guests, especially when they are guests who come from outside Italy, that is to walk up the Sella del Diavolo. If you have ever seen photos of Cagliari, the Sella del Diavolo is the one that dominates the Poetto beach, it is a mountain that has the shape of a saddle. There is a path that you can do on foot to climb up to the top of the saddle, and from there you can see not only the city, you can see the whole beach, you can see for kilometers, it is a very high point from which you can truly see a panorama breathtaking. And at the top of the Sella del Diavolo there is a kind of shelter with tables outside and benches, and what I do with my friends, always, when I go up there, we plan the ascent to the Sella del Diavolo so as to get on at sunset and we enjoy the sunset from above the Sella, we carry backpacks with things to drink, stuff to eat and we had dinner there, we had a nice aperitif with beer and many good things that we had bought and prepared during the day for the occasion. Then back all in the backpacks and down it goes, it is now dark, in fact we also had lights, and once we reached the end of this mound there is a beautiful beach and there it was dark, it was night and with Michaela we had a crazy, beautiful swim. The water was super clear and very hot. Beautiful! We were in the water joking, playing, having pictures taken by the others who were with us accompanied us who did not want to swim. Then we went home, very tired. This morning we slept late, in fact this morning no 6am alarm to go running and walking, anyway, I recommend it, if you have the opportunity, especially if you have never done it before: take a nice swim in the sea at night, because it is truly an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend it.

    https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/IT/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32021R0341

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
If you were asked, what do you think, should someone be allowed to repair something that she/he has bought? Surely you answered, well sure, I'll buy a table, a leg is broken and I try to fix it, or I'll call a carpenter and so on. That’s normal. The thing is a little different when it comes to technology, because it is true that I should have the right to fix my phone, my iPhone, if it breaks, but it is also true that most mobile and other manufacturers technological things say: either you have it fixed by one of our specialized technicians or if you have it fixed by another technician, the warranty will no longer be valid, and this makes you a little angry. I went to read the motivation they give, it is that yes because if a person who does not know how to do it well does it, it can have very serious, very serious consequences, for example, replace the mobile phone battery with a non-original one, your mobile phone could explode, it has already happened several times. Linked to the right to repair the things we buy there is also the concept of 'planned obsolescence', i.e. that most companies that produce technology produce it so that after some time it is no longer usable, and therefore it has a sort of an expiration date, because they introduce new systems, you know like when your computer or your mobile phone, it happened to me, I had to change the mobile phone at some point because I could no longer load the apps because they did not fit with my operating system and I couldn't update the OS unless I bought a new phone, which I had to. So, why am I telling you this? Because I discovered - it absolutely escaped me, I didn't pay any attention - that in March of this year, starting from March 1 of this year, there is a law in Europe: the right to repair, and that is that those who produce technological things, but also washing machines or autos, cars, must by law guarantee the possibility of receiving both technical support and then for at least 7-10 years from the creation of any technological thing, those who produce it have to guarantee that people can buy spare parts, so even after 5-6 years, if my cellphone 5-6 yo mobile breaks down, I can still buy spare parts, or take it to have it fixed. A small step against technological waste which in Italy is recycled only for 40%.

Affascinante!

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)
Poi quando mio marito è tornato a casa e quindi eravamo in tre, io Micaela e lui, mi rivolgevo a lui in tedesco continuavo a farlo, continuamente! Buon giorno a tutti!

Yesterday this strange thing happened that I was not prepared for, a linguistic thing. So, first things first. Yesterday my friend Michaela arrived from Berlin, I told you about her in one of the past broadcasts. I hadn't seen her for many years, about twenty years, maybe even a little longer, so we had lots of catching up to do. As she arrived, I went to pick her up at the airport and there we started talking and chatting in German. And you see, this strange thing happened. I read quite often in German, but it had been a long time since I spoke for such an extended period of time. This thing happened which was like, do you know the feeling when you take the shoes that you haven't worn in a long time, and you put your foot in and it fits like a glove? This was the feeling. This is the feeling I had when I started, I found myself talking in German for a long time with Michaela, that is the sentences came very naturally to me, I also started thinking in German, so much so that when my son, who is now with friends on vacation in Florence, when he sent me a message asking me something, and he did so in English, and I automatically replied with a message in English, and he immediately replied laughing, saying Mom, just said tell me in Italian because as you said it in English, I don't understand a thing, I cannot understand what you want to tell me! Yes, I realised that I was having difficulty speaking English yesterday, and not only that! Then when my husband came home and therefore there were three of us, Micaela, him and myself, I kept on to address him in German and I kept on doing so, all the time! I turned to him and spoke in German! It is strange because when there are people who do not speak English, I have no difficulty in switching from English to Italian, it comes naturally, I don't even notice it, but with German I couldn't. Anyway, it is these things, little linguistic oddities that, I don't know, I noticed yesterday. If you hear noises there and my strange voice is because I record from the bed and I have Mazinga on one side and Sputnik on the other - my two cats - who are tormenting me. Good morning everyone!

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 212 Attacchi informatici

TESTO TRASCRITTO (ENGLISH TRANSLATION will follow later)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
A hacker attack blocked the computer networks of the Lazio Region. This means that the Lazio Region cannot go ahead with the vaccination campaign, it does not have access to data. The hackers demand a ransom otherwise they won't give the data back. It was a time bomb ready to explode, that is, it had been trying to explode for a long time now, I heard just this morning the various newspapers and radio news, that the journalists and experts said yes the network must be ensured, people have been saying this for a long time, Italy is frighteningly late. While I was listening to this news I did not know whether to laugh or cry, because not only Italy is sensationally, terribly late with everything related to computerization, computer literacy of its population, services and networks, but it is I was reminded of the 3 uncut minute podcast that I did less than a week ago, where I commented on the viral video of a journalist, I think it was at the Tokyo Olympics, who complained that the passwords for the network were too complicated, there were uppercase and lowercase letters, he said all this with the mic on, live on air, he did not even realize he had the mic on and in the end he said "But why cannot just have goofy, pluto and mickey, as passwords, all with lowercase letters? " Listening to that video I shivered, I shivered because even if Italy had secure computer networks (which is not the case), the weak link in the chain are the people who work with the networks. You can have a super safe password, but it is useless if you then write it down on a piece of paper on a post-it and keep it next to your computer screen, you might as well not have one. This is the problem, human beings, in Italy most people consider it a nuisance having to change the password regularly, they consider it a useless and exaggerated exercise, having to use complicated and difficult passwords, words that cannot be found in the dictionary and above all not the date of birth or the names of the children. Here this where Italy finds itself, I'm sorry to say - cyber attacks are the new piracy and will occur more and more, and those who are not protected are the ones who will be the victims, however we citizens will be too.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 211 Giochi accessibili
Affascinante, super interessante!

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
I have enjoyed video games for some time, and I have also been involved in accessibility for some time, also professionally. An important aspect of accessibility, although not the only one, is to allow people with various types of disabilities to have access to the services and the type of consumer goods that people without these disabilities have access to. As I said, I also deal with accessibility professionally, but I confess that I have never reflected before today on the fact that video games also have a big problem of accessibility, not only for people who have a disability, because, I repeat, the ‘problem’ is never people with disabilities but it is always and only and in any case the lack of access, because all of us in our life at some time will have disabilities: if we break a leg, if we are pregnant and we cannot stand for a long time, if we have varicose veins, if we are elderly and we have the aches of age, then disability is something that concerns everyone, and in fact it should be a matter of accessibility, not of disability, and I had never thought about the fact that video games should also take these elements into consideration. Think of people who suffer from color blindness, who therefore cannot see the contrast between colors, and perhaps have a lot of difficulty playing games. Here today I reflected on the relationship between video games and access thanks to a podcast that I have been listening for many years, Download this show, by Marc Fennell, Australian ABC (I put the link in the program notes) and there I met this fantastic person called Humphrey Hanley, known in the blogosphere especially in Twitcher (that platform where people go to play and others watch) his name is "No hands, No excuses" I don't have hands but I don't have any excuses, so he is a gamer who has a particular condition that he practically has no fingers. This has not prevented him not only from becoming a champion of different games, but also from creating a communication business where he does photography, drones, video other things that have to do with communication, then talks in places like Ted Talk. Fantastic. So there is no excuse not to think about access, so that everyone has access.

    TESTO TRASCRITTO (English translation below)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Some time ago, in episode 166 of my podcast 3’ Uncut, I started talking about podcast, and I started explaining what do we mean with podcast. Today I want to continue analysing (briefly because in three minutes you can only do so much), analysing briefly how the podcast is really reinventing the medium 'radio'. How so? First of all because the podcast is not linked to the geography of a place, so this podcast that I do daily is listened to by people all over the world, especially since I managed to overcome the limit of the Italian language which is spoken by a very small percentage of the world population, while a large percentage of the world population understands English and therefore I am translating my podcasts with English subtitles. So the podcast allows me to have an audience that is not linked to the geography of the place where I am physically and therefore I can also address an international audience. The podcast allows me to speak asynchronously, I record this episode when I want, then, above all, you listen when it suits you best, you can also listen to it several times. So there is the triumph of the voice, and sometimes even of the sound effects (in my case, with my podcast only of the voice), you can also allow yourself to explore different genres, also because unlike a video production, which even on a very limited budget, it must still have certain characteristics, to make a podcast it really doesn't take much, you just need to have a computer connected to the internet and then you can do it, anyone can do it. So it is true that the podcast is reinventing radio as a medium, but now I put a question mark on it because it is absolutely untrue, because podcast did not invent anything. Already at the beginning of 1900 there are, since radio was just born, there are some crazy examples of beautiful radio plays that exploit the potential of this medium to the maximum, which allows you to imagine things and not be forced to see them with the eyes of the video director who shows us the characters as he wants or as she wants. I mention only a radio drama from 1924 which is the first radio drama produced by the BBC that tells the story of these miners trapped in the depths of the earth and the first words of the radio drama are "What's going on? It's all dark". I'll put the link in the notes because it's crazy it's worth listening to.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 209 Shining (e rumori)

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Last night, before going to bed, on my usual TV channel surfing after turning off Netflix, I happened upon the last ten minutes of Kubrick’s The Shining. Oh well, and what do you do when you chance upon the last scenes of The Shining, don't you stay and watch? Sure, I did watch until the end. The Shining is an amazing movie. Kubrick is not my ultimate favorite director, but he is in the Olympus of my directors, among the favorite ones, even if not the absolute favorite. I saw The Shining when it came out in theaters. I remember it vividly. I was a girl, it was winter, one of those winter evenings with a very strong mistral blowing, Cagliari is very exposed to the mistral, especially in winter. I went to see it with my beloved classmate. We went to the cinema, it was winter, so it was already dark, and the movie scared me so much, it made such an impression on me I jumped and shouted in all the right places, where the director wanted me to jump and to shout. Yes, and the funny thing is that we were both very, very shaken, we loved the movie. Once it ended, you see, the cinema was near the harbour, and after the movie, we went for a walk in the harbour. Just imagine: Cagliari harbour at night, already dark by now, with this crazy mistral, and I think we went just to be afraid, because, it was like, we leaving the cinema still quite shaken and then, can you imagine now going for a walk in the harbor in the dark? Yes come on, why don’t we go for a walk in the harbor in the dark? And we did it. We used to do things like that with my beloved classmate. Yes, I was very pleased to watch the last ten minutes of the film. No I won't tell you the ending, in case someone hasn't seen it yet. Yes, I conclude this Kubrickian blast-from-the-past by explaining that the noises you hear in the background are due to the fact that in these days, today but also in the coming days (because I have heard that the temperature will be around 40 degrees) I am recording my three daily uncut minutes with the window open, because I sweat to death and I don't want to be conditioned which I don't like and in any case it would make even more noise, hence the live noises.
