But the reality is, after years of working or running a business, people need something to fill their time, replace the lost companionship, and provide a sense of fulfillment. And for people planning to retire early, often you need to bridge the lost income and benefits not available until full retirement age.

Brian Withers understands these things deeply, having walked away from a high-paying corporate job in his early 50s.
