The people of Israel in Haggai's time were disheartened, believing the temple they were constructing in Jerusalem could never match the grandeur of the former one. They failed to recognize that God's nature is to continually advance toward greater glory. This truth applies to our own lives as well: when we work for Him, He plans for our future days to surpass our past.
