As Paul pursued the will of God, he faced fierce opposition and even a violent storm at sea on his journey to Rome, yet he still took time to give thanks. His example shows us that gratitude is possible even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. As a church, although we have endured hardship and trial this past year, we can be thankful for the God who is always in control.

When Moses descended from Mount Sinai and shattered the tablets of stone, it seemed as though the covenant itself had been broken beyond repair. Yet God, rich in mercy, offered Moses and the people a new beginning by writing His words on the stone once again. In the same way, when we fail or “break” what God has entrusted to us, His grace meets us with another chance, rewriting hope and purpose into our lives.

People will do almost anything to break free, but too often they don’t do what it takes to stay free. Many come to God and find freedom from their past, yet still allow those chains to sneak back in, even while sitting in church. True victory comes when we shift our mindset and let the God of liberty set us free to live in that freedom every day.

The Song of Solomon tells of a young woman torn between the love of a shepherd and the riches of a king. This same struggle plays out in our own hearts as we choose between devotion to God or the attraction of the world. When we truly understand the depth of the Great Shepherd’s love, our response will be to love and serve Him with all that we are.

The household of Stephanas “addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,” showing us what it means to be fully consumed with the work of God. In a world full of harmful addictions, we are called to develop a holy addiction that draws us to serve, love, and invest in His Kingdom with passion and consistency. When we become addicted to the things of God, the church, and helping others, our lives find purpose and our world begins to change.

Though people will mistreat, wound, and disappoint us, Jesus calls us to release bitterness, extend mercy, and refuse the trap of offense.
