Dr. David Weill, former director of Stanford's transplant programs, discusses his career as a transplant surgeon and his transition to consulting. He talks about the emotional challenges of the field, including the highs and lows of patient outcomes and the impact of his father's liver transplant on his perspective. After leaving surgery, Dr. Weill founded Weill Consulting Group to help struggling transplant programs. He has also authored a memoir, "Exhale," detailing his experiences, and a novel, "All That Really Matters," which fictionalized real hospital scenarios.

Bio

Dr. David Weill is the principal of Weill Consulting Group, specializing in improving the delivery of pulmonary ICU and transplant care. Previously, he was the director of the Center for Advanced Lung Disease and the Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Program at Stanford. Dr. Weill has extensive experience in the field, having authored numerous medical articles and testified before the U.S. Senate on lung health. He is also an accomplished author, having written a memoir, "Exhale: Hope, Healing, and a Life in Transplant," and a novel, "All That Really Matters." Dr. Weill's work continues to shape the landscape of transplant medicine both clinically and administratively.
