Tests and the Rest: College Admissions Podcast

402. HOW DO I MOTIVATE MY STUDENT?

Listen Later

The ability to achieve incredible things usually results from the combination of two powerful ingredients: practice plus coaching. However, nobody can follow that painstaking path to success without a third, equally essential element. Amy and Mike invited educator Sean McCormick to answer the age-old question, “How do I motivate my student?”

What are five things you will learn in this episode?

  1. Why are executive function skills as important to focus on as math or reading skills?
  2. How can parents and educators support better executive function in students?
  3. What makes a breakdown in executive function the perfect opportunity for growth?
  4. How does motivational interviewing work?
  5. What are the ideal expected outcomes for motivational interviewing?
