Today, I discuss the Human Cell Atlas and how it is transforming medical research. The Human Genome Project mapped the entire genome, but now the focus is on the 37 trillion cells in the human body. The Human Cell Atlas has identified thousands of cell categories, and researchers plan to have a first draft of the full atlas in just two years. This research has already led to discoveries in cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and cancer, and will ultimately lead to the eradication of disease and extension of healthy life.
