If you’re like most direct sellers, you’ve been taught to set SMART goals, and you might even be thinking about setting the same SMART goal for next year that you worked on this year.
In this episode, I explain why that’s a mistake and what to do instead.
Setting the same goal isn’t the worst thing you can do. The bigger problem is pressing repeat on your plan to achieve your goal.
Too many direct sellers set the same goal and implement the same plan to reach it, and then they’re disappointed that they didn’t get the results they wanted. And this is one of the problems with a SMART goal. It doesn’t come with a plan.
If you want different results, use a different goal-setting system, and in this episode, I walk you through the goal-achieving system I created for direct sellers.
When you use this system, you won’t settle for an achievable goal, and because you’ll also be creating a plan to reach it, you’ll have the confidence to aim higher than you did in the past.
Goals should be big enough that they change you. Achieving the goal isn’t the goal; becoming the person who achieves the goal is.
Your business should fit into your life. It should align with the vision you have for your life, and SMART goals don’t do that.
If your goal isn’t big enough to change you or isn't aligned with your vision, you’ll work your business without a focus or a purpose. You’ll be distracted by shiny objects and the latest tactics.
When things get hard, and they will get hard no matter what your mindset is because you’ll have to do some things that are new and out of your comfort zone, you’ll give up or resize your goal to fit the achievable vision you’re willing to settle for.
Set yourself up for success by setting the right goal the right way.
