The first doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine were administered at hospitals nationwide Monday, including Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gov. Roy Cooper called the vaccine a "remarkable achievement for science and health" as hospitals across the state received their first shipments Monday morning. The Electoral College met and formally voted for Joe Biden, making him the 46th president. Biden is scheduled to be inaugurated in January despite the fact President Donald Trump hasn't yet conceded. Biden delivered another public speech Monday evening, saying he would work to unite all Americans as the nation continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Fallen Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Herndon will be laid to rest in Kings Mountain Tuesday. Herndon was killed in the line of duty last week while responding to an active break-in in Gaston County. Herndon's family is asking the public to watch the funeral via live stream instead of in-person due to COVID-19 spread in the region.North Carolina is expecting another shot of wintry weather this week, as a storm system will bring ice, sleet and even some snow to the mountains and foothills. First Warn forecaster Larry Sprinkle says Charlotte will most likely see below-freezing temperatures and some freezing rain but don't expect much, if any, accumulation. More than 80,000 doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine are coming to North Carolina s part of the United States' biggest vaccine effort in history. The vaccines will be shipped to 11 medical providers across the state, including Atrium Health in Charlotte. Hospitals will then decide who gets the first vaccinations, with front-line health care workers expected to be at the top of the list.  The Electoral College will meet today to certify the results of the 2020 election. President-elect Joe Biden is expected to get 306 votes, more than the 270 required to win the White House. The meeting of the Electoral College comes as President Trump refuses to concede and carries on his battle to overturn the results of the election.  The Cleveland Indians announced they will be changing their name, dropping their controversial nickname for something new. Three people, including a police officer, were injured in a shooting Mount Holly, North Carolina Friday morning. It happened at the Mount Holly car wash on Beatty Avenue. The United States is moving closer to getting approval for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as the FDA's advisory board will meet to discuss emergency authorization Thursday. The FDA's board will discuss how the vaccine was implemented in the United Kingdom, as well as review trial data to determine if the vaccine should be rolled out now without further testing. Cabarrus County Schools voted Wednesday 5-2 in favor of switching to full remote learning as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in North Carolina. Board members said staffing is a big issue that led to the decision, while some board members argued keeping kids out of school is setting them up for failure down the road. The new remote learning plan will be in effect through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday in mid-January. North Carolina health officials will provide an update on their plan to roll out the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, including which groups will be the first to get it. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper implemented a new modified stay-at-home order that will put even tighter restrictions on businesses as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the state. Cooper's new order takes effect at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools voted 6-3 for a return to full-time online learning to protect students and staff members from the coronavirus.
