As cold air moves into central and eastern North Carolina, Duke Energy said it's prepared to meet the demand.
Jeff Brooks with Duke Energy said the company sees the highest demand in the winter. He said they’ve learned a lot from a cold blast in 2022, where millions were without power. Now, their preparation starts with anticipating the high demand during lower temperatures. Lows will be in the 20s and even teens at points during the coming days.

Tuesday, Cooperative Strategies will present its final plan to the Cabarrus County Board of Education detailing which realignment choice would best suit the district. It comes as the district is struggling with schools that are reaching maximum capacity.
Last year, the school board hired California-based Cooperative Strategies to come up with solutions to ease the issue of overcrowding. Cooperative Strategies came up with three plans -- each plan varied in the amount of movement that it would cause for students in the district.

It is hard to believe that it has been 15 years since the Miracle on the Hudson. For those who don't remember, that was when US Airways Flight 1549 from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte took off but had to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. All 155 people onboard survived and the pilot, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, were heralded as heroes.
WCNC Charlotte sat down with four of them to remember that day and delve into how their perspectives have changed over time.

Duke Energy says Carolinians should prepare for anything when it comes to storms like we saw on Tuesday this week.
A spokesperson for Duke Energy, Jeff Brooks, says anyone can get a power outage because it can be hard to predict who will get hit the hardest.
"You may see a pocket over here and it’s perfectly fine a couple of miles away," he said.
