Tuesday is a day to be Weather Aware. There is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms, wind gusts up to 50 mph, flooding rains ranging from 1 to 4 inches and even tornadoes across the Carolinas and Charlotte area. 

Gov. Roy Cooper signed an executive order to declare a State of Emergency ahead of Tuesday's severe weather threat.

Top leadership at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will see some key changes for the 2024-25 school year.

In a news release Friday, the district announced plans to re-work the current leadership configuration, transitioning into a new model it promises will help ensure student success. The key difference is that district leadership will pivot from managing nine unique learning communities to overseeing schools based on education levels.

This means, per the district's announcement, that leaders will be designated to manage elementary, middle, high, and Pre-K-8 schools. CMS claims this will maintain a focused approach on education models tailored to each grade level across its 186 schools.

Police say a fight at a group home in northwest Charlotte led to a man dying on Thursday.

The incident happened on Thursday around 8 p.m. at a group home on Swearngan Road, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. A man was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic and CMPD labeled his death as a homicide.

Officers believe the man died after a fight broke out between him and a juvenile at the group home. Police say the man lived and worked at the group home. No weapon is believed to have been used in the man's death.

It's the video seen across the Carolinas: Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper allegedly threw a drink at a Jaguars fan on Sunday. The NFL has fined Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper after he was caught on video throwing a drink at a Jacksonville Jaguars fan.

Tepper received a $300,000 fine from the NFL, which said that "all NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL."

“I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday," Tepper said in a statement about the situation. "I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”

Tepper's tumultuous tenure as owner of the Panthers took another ugly turn Sunday when he was spotted throwing a drink at a Jacksonville Jaguars fan during the team's shutout loss.

A 19-year-old is facing multiple charges after a shooting that injured five people during a New Year's Eve celebration in Uptown Charlotte, police confirmed Monday. CMPD has also arrested and charged 12 other people for their actions in the area. 

The shooting happened around Romare Bearden Park at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Investigators say a person shot into a crowd, striking five people. CMPD announced Monday that 19-year-old Daevion Markeith Crawford is charged with shooting into the crowded park. Crawford is charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, as well as going armed to the terror of the people. 

Crawford is expected in court Tuesday.

New flu numbers show a rise in cases for both North Carolina and South Carolina, with the Palmetto State being in the top two for flu activity nationwide. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control, North Carolina remains in the very high category for the flu. Doctors say they expect those numbers to keep rising, especially after the holidays. 

South Carolina has reported 18 flu deaths so far this year. So far in North Carolina, 30 people have died due to the flu. Three of those were children.

The FBI wants parents, caregivers and teenagers to be aware that sextortion attempts, when adults pose as teens to try and entice victims into being sexually exploited for money, typically spike during breaks from school. 

Financial sextortion targeting teenage boys between ages 14-17 is the most common form of this crime seen across the country. FBI Charlotte says in reality, the number of victims is likely higher than what's reported because so many hesitate to come forward and report the crime.

One person has died and another was injured after a shooting in Steele Creek, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. 

It happened along the South Carolina border, on Long Talon Way near Steele Creek Road. 

Around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to the area after reports that shots had been fired. When officers arrived, they found two people who had been shot. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to an area hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. 

CMPD also found an occupied home that had been shot into, but nobody inside that home had been hit.
